The ending was kinda bittersweet, although it drove home the fact that freedom has to paid for, and that war always has casualties. Nia dying in the end (and almost the entirety of Team Da-Gurren during the battles against the Anti-Spiral) was definitely something I never expected from TTGL, and seems a bit of a shout-out to other anime with dark and heroic themes like Zeta and Victory Gundam.

I'm still upset about the ending to Mahoromatic.

And the ending for This Ugly & Beautiful World.

Escaflowne wasn't bittersweet. It was implied in the ending - she could see Gaea from Earth which is normally not possible - that she could travel to Gaea whenever she wanted.

That only makes it more creepy XD. I mean most of it is just normal harmless fandom, but some of the extreme ends of Otaku can be quite disturbing in a way we don't see much outside of that culture.

Nah, the extremes of Any/Every fandom get disturbing and creepy.

One of the reasons I don't care for the movie versions of Gurren as much as the series was pretty much no one died. It really diminished the double spiral speech.

Meh, they aren't exactly doing much harm hugging a pillow: The extremes shouldn't be shunned if they aren't harming anyone. If people find it creepy, well, it's their problem.

Once they start directly bothering people, then that's another story.

On topic: anyone gave D-Frag a try yet? It's one hilarious slice of like show and Roka and Takao are some of the cutest characters this season to boot

Wait...what? Uh? How do they even... seriously, if they like their waifu so much, why would they risk a panoply of harm done to them? If it was one of those digital ones from a sim game I would understand, but a body pillow? That sounds like a lot of work

Yeah. there's even a subsect of Otaku who want the legal right to marry their waifu. I know there are fans out there who delude themselves into think they have a romantic relationship with someone, but they don't walk around with a cut out and take it to dinner and a 'happy ending.'

Watched Akira for the first time last night after just finishing the manga and while it was enjoyable and wasn't expecting a perfect adaption... did they just outright cut 3 or 4 of the books?

And was that Lady Miyako I saw as some sort of Akira worshiper?!?!

If any one wants the t-shirt I linked earlier: http://www.etsy.com/listing/175913879/kawaii-in-the-streets-senpai-in-the?ref=shop_home_active_1

For just $20 you too can be kawaii in the streets and announce that you're sempai in the sheets.
