Well, I suppose it's true what they say about Madoka Magica, saw ep3 yesterday and
Spoiler:
... it was a true "WELCOME TO GRIMDARK!" slap-to-the-face episode

"Fear is freedom! Subjugation is liberation! Contradiction is truth! These are the truths of this world! Surrender to these truths, you pigs in human clothing!" - Satsuki Kiryuin, Kill la Kill
I can't wait for the third Madoka movie to get to DVD. It wasn't showing in my area in theaters and the version online was filmed by someone who apparently doesn't know how to aim a camcorder.
Viewing is free, HOWEVER, there is a subscription service of I think 8 bucks a month, that removes ads, allows higher resolution viewing, viewing on aps (like the PS3 and 4 when they get it) and removes the one week wait on new episodes (which crunchyroll generally gets an hour or so after their Japan release. I think.)
So it is free, but if you have the chance to subscribe, I'd say go for it.

PrehistoricUFO wrote: Ok for the Kill la Kill crew, I just gotta say Harime Nui is one seriously bad ass character.
She's cute, seemingly harmless and absolutely cheerful and loving - yet all this masks a major sociopath who is easily one of the most skilled in the series at fighting. She downs three-stars like they're no-stars and isn't even wearing a uniform. She's also an expert at infiltration and disguise. Grand Couturier indeed!
Even though she's obviously a major villain, I really hope they don't off her. She needs her own series, actually. Harime fanboy here!
Spoiler:
When she first pulls out the other half of the scissor blade, and she spins it around and shows off hard, I shouted in real life. Such a wicked scene.
Another brother who saw the light! *BRO-FIST* Nui FTW! I hope she stays until the very end.
Watched episode 15 of Gundam Build Fighters; what a battle that was. I hope the rest of the series will keep up at this pace because right now it is pretty exciting.
Yeah, the anime already had some very good battles, but this one, damn, now this was some awesome Gundam action, nevermind they are "just" Gunpla.
Spoiler:
When they lose their swords and just go at it with their fists until the bitter end, I know it's a "classic" move, but I freakin' love to see when this happens with mechs.
For Gundam Build Fighters...
Spoiler:
It was a great battle that was dripping with intensity. Both Ricardo and Sei/Reiji putting it all on the line in their battle made it worth the watch. My favorite part was when Sei set-up the wire trap with the Star Build's booster. And of course, the "classic" knocking off both gundam's heads and still fighting.
Finally got caught up in Kill la Kill...
Spoiler:
Nui is sneaky, sneaky, sneaky. That was a clever a$$ trap, and a helluva plot twist. Mako is still a wacky character that gets into sooo much gak, and still makes it out with a grin on her face.
Hmm... I heard Crunchyroll is kind of like an anime youtube. Do you have to pay to view it? Just curious.
Also, thanks for putting the link up!
You can get a free subscription, but have to wait a week to watch new episodes. The $8 premium subscription to watch the new anime immediately and to watch your anime on other devices is well worth it, IMHO.

Hey guys I have a question for you, this is for the Gundam fans.
I used to watch Endless Waltz as a kid (don't even know if it was a series or what, it aired on YTV in Canada, I just remember that name in the title), and I do remember enjoying it.
If I wanted to start watching it again, do I need to start from the very beginning, the stuff from '79? I only ask because I find very old animation doesn't hold my attention until I've become attached to the IP and have a major interest in the story/development of the show. I'd like to start watching somewhere that doesn't need a deep understanding of the lore to enjoy, and is relatively modern, say 90s onward.
I plan to just watch this stuff online, by the way. It's too large/mature a series to conveniently locate elsewhere.

Endless Waltz is the sequel Movie/OVA (either/or, its the same story with slightly more footage in one version) to Gundam Wing; which is one of the Alternate Universe Gundam series and has no relation to any other Gundam Series.
The Main Continuity Series (Universal Century) start with the '79 series, and continue with Zeta, ZZ, and ends with Char's Counter Attack. There are a number of side-story series that fit into this as well: 08th MS Team, 0080, 0083, Unicorn, Igloo, F91, and Victory... and probably one or two others I can't remember ATM. You can pretty much jump into any of them without having to really worry about continuity too much.
G-Gundam is an AU series, and is probably the most different in that its a Super Robot style show rather then real robot. Gundam X is an AU series with a somewhat similar tone to Wing, but is more Post-Apoc.
Turn-A Gundam was an attempt to go 'Every Previous Gundam? Totally the same universe.. just many many many years after one another.' Its also mostly a Victorian style setting.
Gundam Seed & Gundam Seed Destiny is an AU series that basically retells the UC storyline but changes a number of things. Seed Destiny is best watched at 1.5 speed, or not at all.
Gundam 00 is not my cup of tea.
Gundam Age didn't happen.
Gunpla Builders is a proto-Gundam Build Fighters style series, where its hobbists fighting with model kits.
Gundam Build Fighters is AMAZING.

Ok, I must ask, what does Gundam Age has that's so bad for you to resume it like that?
"Fear is freedom! Subjugation is liberation! Contradiction is truth! These are the truths of this world! Surrender to these truths, you pigs in human clothing!" - Satsuki Kiryuin, Kill la Kill
Age was a cool concept, but animation far to childish for the western Anime fans combined with a rushed and sloppily put together story that mostly piggy backs on previous Gundam series with little new to offer made it a stinker this side of the Pacific.

Just know the quality of the series and what each series is about varies a ton! Some are more geared towards younger audiences like Build Fighters, G-Gundam, and the cutesie one with the little tiny versions of the gundams. Some have plots that have children as the main characters, and some have adults in the military. The bottom line is that the whole franchise is so diverse that liking Endless Waltz may not mean that you like After War Gundam X, or vice versa. Even within the same universe the series are very different! If you like giant robots and plots that are generally not for little kids like most mech anime is now adays, then some gundam series may be for you. I would just try out a few different ones before judging the franchise as a whole and be sure to watch them in order! Jumping around really does not give credit to the 30 year franchise of the UC era that spans hundreds of years
If I were to recommend some, I personally love the main storyline (Universal Century) and adore both SEED and SEED Destiny, for the characters, mech design, story, etc. By far the backbone of the Gundam franchise and the more superior series.

The problem with AGE (for me, anyway) was more the fact that the initial male lead is a horrible person. Yeah, he starts off okay, but after the first story arc, he turns out to be a terrible father and a hell of a racist. He even attempts mass genocide by the third arc, but winds up being praised as a big hero who saved everyone. That kind of pissed me off.
I still say Wing is way overrated though. 00 really wasn't that bad. The first half was actually pretty good even. Gundam X remains probably one of THE most underrated Gundam series though. If you can get your hands on it, give it a watch.
The original series movies are really worth watching for the overview. I think it's probably still my favourite Gundam show, despite the animation (I don't think ya that bad though). The designs in it were kind of timeless that they keep copying them to this day.
I liked Destiny! Albeit I liked it less than Seed (which I watched in 2 days since I was obsessed) it was still good IMHO. In response to PrehistoricUFO, Bandai pulled North American support of the franchise so hunting down non-torrented episodes can be a huge bother; I myself am still waiting to find any of the series outside Seed, Destiny, and 00.
Is anyone else watching Nobunagun on the Official site? 'cause I'm not sure if they're just doing the "reel 'em in with 2 free episodes, then make 'em pay for the rest" when they're not streaming the show on the day it comes out. If so, I'll have to find another place to catch the third gun.

That makes you among the few people I know of that actually likes Destiny.
Ya its very mixed, everyone I have heard from has either loved it or hated it. Even though SEED was sort of a reboot, some episodes almost exact copies from the original series, there was quite a lot of changes and things about SEED that made it its own. Almost every series has something borrowed or similar from another, characters you love and hate, both cool mechs and silly looking ones. Overall I don't dislike any Gundam series, except SD Gundam of course : P

And I happen to be one of the few who prefers the sheer GAR and OTTness of G Gundam.
"Gundam" has come to be more of an overarching genre unto itself, almost- a sub-genre of the Giant Robot genre, where basically the general design and size of the robots is all you can really count on.

I liked G Gundam because, frankly, it wasn't that much more unrealistic than the other series, but it was a lot more focused on the fun and cool.
Gundam is a "real" robot series, but there's still a lot requiring suspension of disbelief. I mean, 90% of the protagonists are kids, some of the designs are way over the top, you've got psychics and newtypes popping up left and right.
G Gundam is sort of "all that stuff we asked you to sort of suspend disbelief for? We're gonna embrace a bunch of it and just throw a bunch of Gundams in an arena."
That isn't to say I don't like the other series, but G Gundam doesn't have many defenders, so I'll jump in there.

That was a very helpful post. I didn't know it was basically a ton of different styles aimed at various audiences. Right on. Thanks!
I think G Gundam has more defenders than you'd expect. The show was just ridiculous fun. It's a super robot show that embraces all of the stupid, over the top nonsense of the genre.
Speaking of wacky nonsense, I just watched episode 14 of Samurai Flamenco. Holy crap that show's gone insane. How did it start out as a serious drama about a man wanting to be a super hero to... whatever the hell it's become? This show has gone full slow and I'm loving every minute of it. I really wonder how they're going to end it though. I honestly wonder if it'll turn out to be some kind of dream Hazama's having while in a coma after getting beat up on his first night on patrol. And how come Gotou's girlfriend has yet to show up?
