I've never watched a Gundam series - but now I'd like to watch some.

Which one should I watch?

Which one is most recommended/has the best reviews?

Thanks!

Different Gundams have different styles and there's hordes of smaller series' and OVAs.

My recommendations; The original Mobile Suit Gundam, Mobile Suit Gundam 8th MS Team, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, and Mobile Suit Gundam OO. Personally I think these 4 are the best of the Gundams and seeing them will likely give you a good gauge for what other series you might want to watch. Turn A is also good but Turn A is very different from other Gundams (the current series, Recongusta G, is similar to Turn A meets Eureka 7).

Any order you wants. Here's a quick infographic that can help as a Guide in the future if you need it;

Spoiler:

Gundam has multiple continuities and timelines. Of the four I listed, Wing and OO exist in a separate timeline from the original series and 8th MS Team. 8th MS Team and Mobile Suit Gundam take place in the same universe. Chronologically, Mobile Suit Gundam comes first, but the two series can be watched separately as neither plot directly connects to the other.

Recongusta G and Gundam Age are not in the above timelines, but both exist in their own universe separate from the others

^That may be useful. I can't remember which one I watched all of.... It had a Tallgeese and the peacecraft name was involved.

I saw many parts of but not all of the other one where all of the suits were gundams (at least the main cast) and they had a primary defining characteristic like a scythe or giant guns or something.

Both were entertaining though somewhat different.

That would be Gundam Wing.

Start with G-Gundam. It's completely off-the-walls different from all the other Gundam series.

And it has Master Asia. And Berserk Mode. And a girl Gundam. And SHINING FINGAAAAAA!!!.

I've been trying to watch Turn A- Huge fan of Eureka 7, and tempted to watch the newest Gundam (the one with the designs by the same guy).

GENERATION 8: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.

G-Gundam was fun but I also recall it being a bit uneven. Then again I was watching the CN dub or whatever so maybe I got the wrong impression.

I've actually been kind of in a mecha mood, but it seems there isn't all that much on the streaming sites right now.

I hate G-Gundam, worst designs ever.

And I still stink Seed (NOT DESTINY) is one of the best. Like the characters in that a gak ton more then those in 00.

G-Gundam is the redheaded stepchild blacksheep of the Gundam franchise. While most Gundam attempts to create a "Real Robot" giant mecha world (supposedly the reason for humanoid mecha is because it makes maneuvering in space easier?) where everything is constrained by the in-universe tech and the focus is on all this gloomy political betrayal and stuff, G-Gundam jumps into the Super Robot genre with both feet.

There's Gundams shaped like windmills, ones that are wearing sharks, a Toreador one, one that's a minotaur, the 'Murica! one is wearing football pads and his shoulders come off to become boxing gloves, there's giant Gundams with heads on their heads, and zombie-android-plague-revenants.

It's glorious. Which is probably what the "G" stands for.

Oh, and I almost forgot the biggest "Super Robot" thing- The Gundams' special abilities (yes, they have those, complete with Calling Your Attack and everything) become stronger if the pilots are more emotional and determined!

I'm trying to purchase NEW GETTER ROBO but apparently Disc 4 is near impossible to find.

Is there a place to watch this series online?

Or is someone here looking to sell or let me borrow it?

Thanks!

Going through SAOII now. Having a blast. Still can't understand how people think it's shallow. Though Episode 11 (or 12?) was pretty much non-necessary, strangely enough.

Jonesin' for some Lyrical Nanoha, though- gonna check out the fanfictions, but also wondering if there's a good DVD set somewhere I could get, of all three seasons. Maybe a TPB of the ViVid run?

Ugh. Wanting for some giant robot action I watched Aldoah Zero against my better judgment. Given all the praise it was getting for things I tend to find annoying I wasn't really expecting to enjoy myself. I was actually surprised as it's very engaging up through the first half, but then it tries to go wading outside its depth and totally shifts from it's strengths. Seriously I don't get why people seem to think
Spoiler:
THE SHOCKING CHARACTER DEATHS!1! OMG BBQ!!!
equate with clever twists or good storytelling.

In way I'm reminded of my experience watching Attack on Titan.

Spoiler:
They both had pacing issues. Where AoT fumbled about putting me to sleep mulling over limited material for far longer than it remained interesting, this moved too fast leaving potentially interesting elements brushed over if even touched on at all. They were both at their most interesting when they were focused on people using their limited technology, clever thinking and grit to take on vastly superior and merciless enemy. They are both ultimately, rather pointless. You end the series knowing basically almost nothing more about the settings central gimmick (Titans and Aldoah) than you knew at the start of the series. Both come to rather jerky halt that leaves so much of the previous events feeling rather pointless.

Ugh. The series both infuriate me because they're not bad by any means but they just feel like so much wasted potential. They're both visually interesting, with well executed action, good character designs and spot-on soundtracks. Both have some flashes of brilliance in terms of world building and premise execution early on. Both are mired by trying to explore depth their character's do not have and mulling about on poorly-executed political elements that aren't up to snuff.

I mean at least Attack on Titan sorta kinda left me enough with enough of a hook that I'd wanna tune in for more. This?I don't care anymore. The boat on making me care sailed somewhere around about episode 7, and sunk a bit after that.

I'm a big Bio Booster Guyver fan (no, NOT of the live action movies!) - but to the best of my knowledge, they never 'finished' the series either in Manga or Anime form for English speakers.

Unless I'm mistaken - I hope?

Honestly, I think the things you mentioned are a problem with anime in general. They almost always go for character development over world building.

Going for character development over world building is fine, when your characters actually develop and/or there is anything to develop about them. Really you don't have to do world building at all, though it's nice when you dangle a nice premise in front of us. The issue I take with these two series in particular, is that they both have solid strengths and they ignore them in favor of trying to focus on their weaker areas.

Series I've really enjoyed know what their strengths are and focus on them.

Unlikely at this point (Wakfu lost its financial support because Ankama was constantly delivering episodes late). The story however is being continued in comic form and there are places on the net to find english translations.

Been getting caught up on Akame Ga Kill, and I'm kinda disappointed. Specifically by the ep before the most recent one (thunder god, arena). It was just a bit too telegraphed on the main character deaths, specifically Tatsumi's love interest, and the big tough bad guys, one of which they'd been building up for a bit, seemed to die a little easy for all that.

Esdeath is still awesome however. I'm wondering if she's fully switched over to kill mode on Tatsumi now.

I beg of you sarge let me lead the charge when the battle lines are drawn

Yeah that was a pretty neat fight.

Naruto has had some really nice fights lately too, it's just a shame there's so many episodes of not as cool fights and even more episodes of flashbacks crammed in between the good stuff.
