well as much as the drawing looks cool... i think storags work looks better... and i can tell you why : the standard SM in that pic look rather boring...which i don´t expect to happen with storags work...
and mate... the most awesome fact with this work is that indeed you did it with a needle... i sculpt as best as i can with a multitude of tools and i wouldn´t get in that direction with my skills anywhere near...

Well, I hope as soon as we'll get to the casting, I'll join the fun playing with this concept in order to create at least a squad of various folks, though my vision of such a bunch lies more on a chaotic side - this fellas surely will make a great band of traitors, formed from some random CSMs and cultists (half-naked, in pelts!)... Oh, my hands are itching!

And I mean it! Tbh I wasn't too fond of the idea to begin with. It's such a bold concept for a chapter, that I'd say it's prone to look ridiculous, but you're proving you can pull it off with skill AND style.

@ Baiyuan
It's a good chalenge, makes my brain work to the fullest
@ Vik, Ish and LDD
My point on this is following - modern chaos is faling and boring due to the lack of "soul". What do you think makes an interesting and appealing chapter? A Drama I say! Between fanatics with indepth butt pain and just plain fanatics people tend to choose the first ones. Even the most ridiculous dramas like "OMG we are latent vampires and we struggle hard to stay honorable" or "Oh GOSH we are werewolves and we stoically fight our urges" work suprisingly fine. Damn, even the overwhelming STUPIDITY can make a fine basic chapter background drama - the Black Templars with their "hit the neares target" superb tactics is a great example And modern chaos legions are just bluntly evil in one exaggerated way. They used to have this appealing "rebel" spirit back at the Heresy times but all characters that carried this spirit mostly vanished long ago and thats why we witness so many pre-heresy converted chapters this days, And I'm not the only one who spotted this - the Forge World guys with their recent line of pre-heresy stuff obviously look the same way.
But do not worry! I'm no fan of plain things and I won't make them just another boring loyalist chapter While I'm working I'm thinking about their fluff as well. At least to work out the details if nothing else
Here is a little breakdown of what I have in mind:
- Origins: some remote Death World with lush jungles
- Primarch unkown and they don't really care
- Main affection: Emperor
- Hidden pain: Blame humanity for what befallen the Emperor
- Main goal: Sustain the Emperors entity in the warp by feeding him psi-energy of their fallen enemies
- Main tool of trade: Artifacts known as "Hearts of the Reaper" which is a specially augmented hear of a powerfull psyker that another psyker can use to capture the psi-energy of a dying victim
And here lies the cach... Theoretically any race's psi-energy will do to feed a warp entity BUT! Those possesed by chaos already lost their souls to the Ruinous Powers, Eldar hide thier's in stones, Tau's psi-potency is less to none and Oks "souls" are as tasty as meat jerky... Add here a deep grudge for weak-willed humanity that screwed the only good thing that ever happend to them and you'll figure who's going to be a preferred victim for their rituals Muhahahahaha! sorry...
So here we have a propper chaotic chapter worshiping the only worthy Warp Entity that really cares for humans on their eternal crusade to feed the master and bring justice to those responsible...
What do you think?

OK so they are technically loyalists boarding on the edge of Chaos in theory, so really there lives are a torment to themselves in the sense of keeping pure (so to speak).
They are acting in the ways of Chaos by slaughtering the humans they blame for the Emperors falling, although they need to do this to feed psi-energy to the warp entity did I get this right I hope so as I like it.

@ LDD
Yes, you got it all right
Here is a bit more on them:
I view the Emperor as a shepherd and Mankind as his flock. And why anyone ever becomes a shepherd? To stay fed! He was a good shepherd of course and as such cared deeply for his cattle, taking only what's needed even in undeath. But what about his loyal gurad dogs? Some will live through and abide to a new master but others, who's love was the strongest... what about them?
At first they would unleash all their rage and pain on those directly responsible, for ages hunting them at the Eye of Terror... Then, when the rage is no more and all that's left is a bitter emptiness they will return home, only to find their masters finest creation torn apart by that very cattle he tried to raise. His place taken by lowly cowards who failed to protect him and yet dare to claim the right order THEM how to live on... NEVER! Nerver will a beast of virtue submit to mere sheeps and cows! Never will a warrior let peasants decide his destiny! Begone! We'll leave you to rot on the carcass of your greatest failure... We will never forget and we will never forgive...
After years of wandering they found shelter on a remote planet, to dangerous for anyone but them to claim. There they build temples to honor their fallen master and meditated in seclusion for ages more.
It appeared that the planet was strangly attuned to the Warp and through this some of the most potent among them were able to pirce reality and reach out to their master's consciousness. They could not understand his thoughts but they felt his suffering and his hunger. They needed no more signs! Millenia passed in attempts to harness planet's attunement to the warp and use it to provide means to quench their masters hunger. Finally they made progress while researching the xenos artifact - an Eldar soul stone. Emulating this tech and combining it with hearts of chosen psi-powerfull devotees they created the Hearts of the Reaper. At long last they are ready to beging the Sacrifice!

Very cool
If you fancied Allies, you could perhaps have your Chapter being protected from the attentions of the Inquisition by a Thorian or Horusian Inquisitor who supports their objective, on the basis that he subscribes to an hypothesis that once the Emperor's "warp presence" reaches a certain threshold of power, he will have the strength to manifest in the physical world again. Just an idea.

Oh my friend! I've merely started Jokes aside I recently read the whole Song of Fire and Ice series and I think that 40k verse can really benefit from Martin's approach to story-tailoring. More realistic drama, more consequence to the history and more integration between elements.
As for the metaphor... the world work's the way it does and the olny thing even the best writer can hope to achive is to show it's complexity in a form suitable for his needs. The grimdark fantacy need's to be grim and dark I'm just rying to get it back on that track
BTW russian is one thing I am not 'coz being born to a place doesn't make you one. It's blood and family that does. And I'm not really sure I can define what such a thing is... too much has changed, too many nations with drastically different mentality claim that title...

oh... well i assumed you being of orthodox heritage (sorry if this is sounding a bit weird) thus the religious side blows i thought would happen in a more strict society would be the essence of heresy... and that was my cue on the russian part...
and
more consequence
that´s what a really good story makes good in the first place... character development has to be paid with a price... loss and gain... paths taken and some lost forever...i think from what i have glimpsed the warhammer universe is trying like heck to avoid just that... to not loose too many eager followers due to brutal developments that might produce the need to change the universe in a drastic way...

Dam you lot get to deep at times I just want to see cool miniatures
Sorry just wanted to lighten the tone
I also just wanted to add something concerning your fluff, they feel they are still connected to the Emperor via an entity within the warp right, this then creates the need to take life in aid of feeding the entity.
Now this is where my thought process jumps in ( limited as it is ) how do we know if this is truly the Emperors entity, or in fact actually one of the chaos gods imitating him for his own needs.
Think about it like this they are consumed by rage, anger and loss, only to be replaced with hatred and vengeance in a need to find a form of peace and fulfilment.
Now does that not sound like the work of Chaos, after all they say the evil within that is never seen

Been thinking about that too mate! The trick is - we don't!
They have no valid testimony! It could be any warp entity, something completely new or Tzinch, or even Khorne... But the fact that they witness no common to chaos mutations or deamons in their ranks but do possess some unique powers let us assume that it might really be the Emperor. We also know that each entity dwelling in the warp must consume psi-energy. We also know that Emperor does consume thousands of souls each day just to stay connected to the physical realm... That is the mistery behind this chapter and imo it's much more interesting than "OMG who was our primarch"
@ Yodhrin
As my friend said - a good idea indeed! Even better as Ish plans on making an Inquisitorial band. I think will tie this up somehow

Wow Vik I made sense that is very disconcerting
Dam you me Storag, this is intriguing me more and more, so really we have no idea who is controlling them come on after all they are just puppets even to the Emperor.
No mutations or daemons you say what is the human form after all, they poses powers and super strength and need to take life, the more I think about this the more Chaos has an influence.
I can see a vision of another miniature being created here, one that is touched by the hand (or what ever ) of chaos, I really did see these as chaos marines but since that fluff I see nothing but chaos
