GFood start Jake although I do think Vik has a point as to the wings, have you considered teching them up slightly you know to bring them in line with the rest of the body

It might give the wings a bit more weight so to speak, also you could add small thruster on the edge of the wings to assist with lift and direction.

Just a thought mind

For the arm... What about no arm? A stump, or ripped out hole with wires and stuff spilling out where an arm used to be? Not enough models suffer severe battle damage, I think.

GENERATION 8: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.

I am "tech-ing" up the wings a bit, but just right near the body with pistons and stuff. But really, the wings are plenty big enough. If they were stretched out, they would be just as long as the actual Heldrake model, about 8" each. Also, I think the way it is, the model looks like what I actaully think a dragon should look like. Large and powerful.

And like Shas said, when dealing with daemons, it doesn't have to look right.

And Anvildude, That could be cool! I have a picture mocked up with some "wires" to see what it could look like. Also, some with the arm posed, let me know what you guys think.

The base is not exactly what I was hoping for, but I'll make it work.

And from the back, the wings don't look so small.

Looks great jake, is that disc on the palm of its outstretched hand molded in the plastic, or is it a magnet? First thing I thought of was the brain scrambler thingy from the stargate movie.

Great progress. I'm wondering how it would look with the wires protruding from the right arm socket and the left arm holding the rock? I think because the right side is lower it might look like it's nursing a wound/battle damage.

No, I take it back from that angle the wings look perfect I kind of liked the armless look but wonder if it might throw the balance of slightly, although it looks dam cool in the picture.

The base looks great Jake it displays the beast very dramatically, like it is screaming a death call before devouring its victims.

With the arm up, it looks like my puppy playing, I'd stick with a more aggressive pose, still looks fantastic though!

Thanks all for your comments! The disc thing on the palm is molded on, not sure what it's supposed to be.

I thought about magnetizing the arm for 2 different looks, but the socket would make that difficult, and it might not hold well enough. I have 3 magnets holding the beast in place on the base, and they are barely strong enough to keep it there.

I took some pictures of it beside the actuall Heldrake Model. It is very comparable I think. The Body or "hull" of the model is actually bigger than the official one, so I don't think it should be banned from local tournaments.

And I have made up my mind what I want to do with the arm.
He will have a Guardsman in his clutches, about to snack on a tasty head! Muahahahaha!

Lots of little stuff left to do on him, like filling in knuckles and joints and such, but you can see the direction I am going in.

Thanks for stopping by,

Perhaps I've been watching too many episodes of the original Star Trek, but the rock reminds me of the outcropping where they shoot most of the outdoor scenes. The guardsman should get a red shirt in honor of that.

I have to say I hated this model when it was released but know I kind of feel some love for the kit I have to say the guardsman in his claw is a pretty sweet idea, I would try to find a screaming guard head just add the pain factor.

Theophony, the shirt will be red...welll, mostly...red with blood! If I ever get around to painting it.

Thanks LDD, I am going to sculpt on a scream onto the guardsman's face.

Noooo....not Private Jones!

Guard hate aside, that is one very cool Heldrake!

Took me longer than I thought to get the sculpting going on this guy. But I am getting there, just a few touch-ups left to do, but mostly done.

Private Jones is in even worse shape now than before! His Arm's Off! I will add some chunks of flesh and strips of cloth in the jaws of the Mauler-Drake later.

Shas, I did one better than Acordianed joints! I tried to make them look like the orginal knuckles.

I also magnetized the Baleflamer so I can switch it out for the Hades Autocannon...just in case.

I know I saw it somewhere in your many page log here, but what's the putty you're using? Apoxiesculpt?

Thanks guys! I have a tournament this weekend, so I wanted to at least get the sculpting done. They don't require painted armies, probably the only way I'll get to play in a tourney! Ever.

Actually, I think I am getting to the point where I am more or less satisfied with my army. So maybe I can get some more painting done.

Although, I do need more Rhinos....

JWM, I mainly use ProCreate. It's like Green Stuff. I do also use Apoxie Sculpt, and Magic Sculpt but to lesser degrees. I made the rock the Mauler-Drake is on out of Magic Sculpt. Mostly to get the last of it off my desk. Turns out I am allergic to Magic Sculpt. Which really sucks, because it was my favorite putty ever!
