Subject: Victoria Miniatures / REAPER BONES III "Sledgehammer" M22 BGF. Now live! Pg 115.
The Sledgehammer can be used as an Earthshaker artillery carriage, or with a different barrel, as a Medusa carriage.
Also, porting it over from the previous page:

Here is a preview of the one of the resin add on parts Jake has been designing. The resin tracks will be an upgrade kit available from Victoria Miniatures, once the Reaper Bones III Kickstarter ships.

Heh, still thinking about mounting it on a flatcar.... (The Big Bertha had an 1/8 of a mile recoil....)

I wasn't planning on backing. Looked at it, liked the idea, but as I have some important things to save for, decided to be fiscally responsible. Then I saw this.
And now I've just pledged for two. Godammit. I thought I had better impulse control than that.

Are you stuck with female crew? Or is there a male crew to choose?
If I get this I will probably need a lot more crew, realistically this thing would have a lot of people crewing it. I think the Paris gun had around 80 crew, I imagine this would need 60-80 as well. Obviously this is too much but I feel like the mere 6 crew would probably die trying to crew this after 20 minutes. I think 20 would be a decent amount.

No, you get all six with each gun. You can always kitbash more dudes yourself with the bits already available through Vic's store, as you can see they're all made up of greatcoat legs, Victorian torsos, Victorian arms and use dress cap heads.

Yea might have to.
Cheers.

There's no reason for it to have 15+ crew, or 80 crew, or any other massive number.
Basically, it's based off the B4 previously shown. Soviet B4s, which had a much less badass crane than this thing does (the real crane was a length of pipe with a pulley or three) had a crew of around 5.
@Mouse - I know, gods that annoys me about the DKK ones, beautiful sculpts ruined by stupidity.
Just returned from taking the dog to the beach for a few hours so she could run amok, and now while I wait for supper I'm going to work on some more super-sexy resin add-ons for it.
Since my physical modelling has been sidelined by me putting an Xacto blade into my finger until it hit bone yesterday, yeee-ouch.
I'll try being nicer if you'll try being smarter.

Thanks so much to you and everyone else who has jumped in, really thrilled with the support.

See, Jake, that's why you should stick to sculpting awesome digital stuff for me, its much safer.

It actually had a crew minimum of 10 (Wikipedia tends to show minimum crew needed to simply fire and load it) and more than likely used more than 10 men to crew it when in actual warfare. The crew to move it, supply it and rotate shifts would vastly increase the number. The size of this gun is massive and in reality would have a lot men standing around it waiting to rotate or help pull it apart to move it to the next position etc.
For example the Japanese Battalion Gun had a crew of 5 (tiny gun) but that crew was bare minimum in a combat situation. I think 16 + (will have to dig up my books to confirm) men crewed them but only 5 (as shown on wikipedia) at one time was required to actually operate it. But the other men needed to replace/move the gun etc do not disappear, they have plenty of work to do with the gun during the firing too. The vickers machine gun for example only needed 2-3 to operate, but to function in warfare would have had near 10 men to use properly. But it is often listed as 3 crew (which is technically correct, but not really).
Ultimately it is down to taste. Yes you can display minimal crew but in my opinion having all the flurry of back up crew and men hauling the ammo around makes the gun look far more epic. I know I personally like the look of busy artillery, which from what I have heard is a very messy job in full conflict. Something I find a lot of models misrepresent. Thankfully there are options to do this, I just think 6 is not really enough for a model I assume is meant to be in active duty.
To be clear I love the model, just not a huge fan of the crew that's all.

While interesting and would look cool with a bunch of crew, as a game piece, having 6 crew looks busy enough, is within the realm of sanity, and fits just about any ruleset. Plus, for the snapshot of a battle most wargames represent, you wouldn't need to show the dozen other guys doing secondary tasks.
Six crew is a solid compromise.
Plus, Vic also sells parts for heavy weapon crews, so you can always use those kits to make a bunch of extra crew.

Got one myself! Hopefully by the time it arrives in Nov 2016 (really? wow) I will have figured out a use for it! It is too awesome to merely define a shelf.
I'm seriously humming and hawing about upping my pledge for 3 in the coming weeks when the pledge manager opens up.
On the one side, I'm not exactly floating in money and my wife has grand plans for the kitchen, back yard, front yard, stair well, and well, pretty much everything.
On the other side, its so cheap now, and having a battery of 3 is both visually pleasing and works well for any rule set I'd want to use.
Decisions, decisions, decisions...

Will that mobile gun be available outside of the kickstarter?
