It's actually cheaper than a FW Russ and has more weapon options to it.

Which FW Russ are you looking at?
If I buy the Matilda with the sponsons and the alternative turret cannons, it's about $115USD plus shipping.
The Krieg LR Vanquisher is £62 ($80 USD) plus shipping, and includes the sponsons and other option from the LR kit.
I'll give you that you'd wind up with many more options for the Matilda, but it's not even close to cheaper.

I was only thinking of the main turret guns, didn't factor in the sponsons.

Seems to be a very expensive model, pretty close in price to what a Forgeworld tank would run but doesn't offer nearly the same level of detail (which is what FW is known for).
I've got several FW tanks as well as 3rd party Mortians so I'm not afraid to drop for killer resin models but given the detail level I'm really not seeing the value in this one.

Looks neat, but for that price? Come on now. I have a Gideon from Mad Robot and it has more going for it for 1/2 the price. Even the Gothic KV-2 kit from MaxMini is only about $50.

I'd actually consider buying one if it wasn't for the slot for a co-axial gun that doesn't come with a gun.

faolan wrote:How are you folks (from the Kickstarter) finding your Sledgehammers to be?
My 2 sledgehammers arrived a few days ago (South Australia) and I've just finished assembling them now. Overall I'm pretty happy with them. The packaging is nice and fancy, with all the pieces clearly displayed. There was the odd rough edge from where the piece was removed from the sprue that needed cleaning up, but in general the cleanup was minimal.
The detail on the huns themselves is decent, if a little soft. Having said that, the rivets and other small details will come out really nicely when painted and weathered. I'm definitely happy with the plastic components. However, the crew and the other bits made out of the bones material (shells, crates) are a bit disappointing. They're not particularly well detailed and feel more like the sort of pieces you'd get in a D&D box. That's fine and all, but for tabletop models, I would've expected a lot better quality.
As it happens, I wasn't going to use the crew anyway as the Sledgehammers will be counts-as Earthshaker carriages for my Death Korps, so the crew wouldn't really fit in too well with the Krieg aesthetic. Still, I was thinking about using parts such as the rangefinder on some Krieg models, but I don't think it'll be worth the effort of cutting up the crew for that, considering how soft the detail is.
Altogether though I'm glad I backed the Kickstarter, though the wait was making me start to regret it - especially since I held off on buying FW artillery to see if the Sledgehammers would fit in with them aesthetically. I'd definitely give the overall kit an 8.5/10, you'll definitely get a decent sized model out of it, but I'd much rather buy the full-priced model from the Victoria Miniatures store if it was packaged with the resin crew and accessories.

I second the bit about the crew. As gaming pieces, the softness of the Bones material doesn't bother me that much. If I was a top level modeller/ painter, I'd definitely be after resin versions of the crew.
As a plus point though, I've found it easy to remove the heads to replace with pith helmet versions.

Only part of the gun itself that looks a bit undone / underwhelming is part number 2 if we're using the instructions manual found on your site. It has a pair of dimples up front for some reason.

Yeah I'm not sure whether I'm going to fill those with Greenstuff or cover it with so plasticard pieces, it is a bit annoying.

Dimples would be either from cooling or perhaps ejector port marks. Not having one of the production ones I can't really tell you which has caused it.
Mr Surfacer is often the go-to for the scale model guys for filling in such things (it came in handy on the Baneblade for that reason), and (again, having not seen it in person) should probably work a treat. Plus the stuff is amazing for adding texture to other things.
It's a shame to hear about the Bonesium crew & parts not looking all that amazing, because I've got some of the resin ones around and I really like them.

Stone Bonkers Fabricator General
We'll find out soon enough eh.

This is a slightly random tangent, but: I've been reading a lot recently about the "less known"(ie, more ignored by Britain and America because it doesn't fit our respective national narratives) theatres of WW1 and WW2, and I realised something - among all the various third party "pseudofuture infantry" producers, most fall victim to that same blind spot.
Vic's done some good work giving us parts for not-ANZAC and not-Highlanders(seriously, screw you Mr Historically-Accurate Dunkirk, not one mention of the 51st >:/ ), but can I ask if there might be a prospect you could do more "colonial infantry" head types? Middle Eastern wrapped shawl heads would be the most obvious, but actually the one I'd most like to see would be turbans.
