So I was thinking of playing Warhammer Online but I was wondering is there anyone who actualy plays it? I have been hearing that almost no one plays any more.
Also advice on classes would be wonderful the classes im intrested in are Slayer, Shadow Warrior, White Lion and Marauder.

I tried it, loved it, but it was pretty much dead after a short while. If you play the trial and see all those people don't kid yourself, the actual servers aren't quite so populated.

Pretty much this. Get beyond the free tier and it is dead, which is a shame becuase it was a lot of fun. Talk about a wasted opportunity.

It died a long time ago. Emulated WoW too much and lacked the preexisting fanbase to acquire enough interest for the game too actually be successful. It's a good game, but it's pretty much dead. I doubt it will last more than another year or two.

Tbh, the way ToR seems to be taking off, I doubt it'll last the year. Can't see EA funding a dying MMO, if it has a money maker on its hands.

I did suggest a while back, that a strong start by ToR would hasten WaR's end, and I still stand by that.

Actually it failed for a lot of reasons, but one of them wasn't that it was 'to much like WoW'.

Yes, it really was. It wasn't like a carbon copy, but the lay out of the quests and the way the classes played was far too similar to WoW. It had some interesting and in my opinion, better changes, but the game didn't...struggling for the right word...do enough to make it self distinct and attractive to potential customers.

You're misreading it.

He said that wasn't specifically why it failed.

Which is true. Go look up the early problems that it had....

Anyone here on Dakka still plays it? I decided recently to try MMORPG (yeah, I've never been into online gaming, except Counter-Strike 2.0 15 years ago) - free unlimited but very restrictive trial served as an additional encouragement. So, if I am correct, there are only two servers remaining - Tier 1 is quite busy and at least Badlands are not dominated by either realm. Been playing for 5-6 days, have a Shadow Warrior (Rank 10, Renown rank 20), thinking about active subscription. Anyone else there on Badlands?

Somehow it still has a subscription fee for anything out of tier 1.

So, once it finally goes F2P I might actually give it a shot again; personally I am astonished it hasn't already.

Wrath of Heroes is essentially a F2P WAR. I haven't tried it myself though as I found WAR's PvP to be uninspiring.

Crazy that it will go F2P before WAR.

Subscription based WoW clones are effectveily dead now given that TOR bombed and the Secret World's sales have fallen well short of expectations. Publishers/Developers should finally realise that there are a lot of gamers who really don't like the tired old format.

ToR will be F2P before WAR is, lol. Which really is madness, considering ToR hasn't even been out for a year yet.

And yea, Wrath of Heroes is just the PVP part; I'd be way more interested in seeing the environments and enemies of the universe realized in WAR rather than just pvp arenas (and I didn't really find the pvp in WAR to be that stellar in the first place either).

It was fun at the beginning, when each race had its own campaign area. Once they lost so many players they had to condense it all down to Chaos vs. Empire, it wasn't worth playing.

1) You cannot win. 2) You cannot break even. 3) You cannot stop playing the game.

Great PVP, though the game was not balanced. The PVE in the game was god horrible. If they had the PVE Rift has and the PVP of this game. They would of done a lot better.

It was a good game when it was launched. Unfortunately, SWtoR and EA happened and literally killed this game. I finally found the exact text behind what had happened.

http://www.gamerevolution.com/manifesto/ea-artist-soon-to-be-laid-off-burns-ea-management-2803

Pretty much what he said. Once the game was launched, EA dropped it off their priority list like they do most games. It received only a few updates and NEVER any new content. Within a few months of launch, players either went back to WoW or hit the end-game and had nothing to do. Once players realized WAR was going nowhere fast, they left it. They (EA/Bioware) reused the models and art from WAR for Wrath of Heroes (which attempts to be a competitive MOBA style game). WAR was good but was denied MUCH needed updates, Wrath is mediocre at best. If you want to play MOBA stick with LoL or grab DotA 2. If you want MMORPG, choices seem to currently be WoW or Guild Wars 2.

It did get new content, a handful of new classes and the tomb kings area.

What killed it was that it didn't stand out from the herd, its PvP was by far its best feature but persistent balance and zerg issues killed it.

The original Warhammer Online would have been a much more interesting game if it had actually been released and if they have managed to deliver on thier promises, which admittely was rather doubtful.
