It's been a while since I've posted here, so have a modeling update (yay! First content on the 2nd page! )

Naturally, since my army is listed as "Grenadiers", I'm going to have to give them Carapace armor. I had originally done that with poster board, but I came to a realization.

It sucks.

Now, I have crafted a universal Carapace from some plasticard, and I have made molds of each component.

Due to the great numbers with which I will have to model the carapace, I will be going on a squad to squad basis. I will also do some experimentation, and maybe some repainting.

At the moment, I'm going to need the patience to be able to make it.

Awesome models, good work!
With what kind of stuff did you make those molds, and where do I get it, cause I've been looking everywhere to get some kind of material to make molds with.

It's those cheap re-usable molds you can get at some stores. I don't remember the brand name, but I got mine at Huzzah Hobbies in Northern Virginia.

Green stuff. I might change it and get some actual mold stuff at some point though. Maybe make an actual mold for resin, y'know?

It's a little too small for my tastes. I actually plan on making a large mold and selling these things for cheap. I'll brand them as "Infantry Armor Plating 28mm Heroic" or some such thing.

Wow! Long time, no update...except I do have an update.

I am going to scrap the green-stuffed carapace due to lack of time and patience. However, I am still going to give my men carapace. I was browsing around Victoria Lamb's store, and thought "What is the second most important part to protect apart from torso and head?"

I came to the realization that as long as you have teeth, you can fight. You don't need arms or legs.

And that's when I found these for the umpteenth time. It's more armor, and it protects somethinng vital. And they're cheap. My men may lose their arms and legs, but they can keep fighting on "black knight style".

For now, I have started work on giving the men their camo cloaks, and I will work on that until I get the groin guards in.

Also, the 812th may be entering into a tourney within the coming weeks, so stay tuned; I'll be sure to post pics.

Absolutely. Who needs arms and legs when you can bite and your way out of any situation!?

Tragedy has struck: Sgt. Bastonne has fallen to his doom. As a result, I decided to remake him. I will post pics after I receive the groin guards.

Alright lads, the time is nigh! I have received my bits, and I have done some modelling. Although I am in class right now, I will upload some pics when I get home. In the meantime, I have a tournament report to do about the 812th's combat action this past weekend.

At my FLGS, there was a 40k tournament using the Adepticon rules. Although I'm not going to Adepticon, I certainly won't pass up an opportunity for a 40k tournament. And hey, I needed practice and a good old fashioned arse-whupping to actually find a tactic that works with my highly specialized mechanized infantry.

The first game, I went against this guy who was using Eldar and Deldar in an 1850 duel to the death over objectives. I got first blood, and then it all went downhill from there. My men got slaughtered. The tactic I was using with my men was to keep them nice and cozy inside their chimeras. As a friendly warning for you all, let me give you my advice on that tactic: Do not EVER use it! It will get your men killed. It may look like a cozy tank is a good thing to hide in, but don't let that fool you! When they go up, they will take some of your squishy guardsmen with you. I made that mistake for 2 games, which is why I lost my first 2 games, although there were some moments of glory, like a veteran sergeant getting into close combat with a Howling Banshee exarch and not dying (he has earned himself a power sword for Eldar-chopping purposes).

The second game went worse off than the first. I was put up against Dark Angels (this marks the first time my men have lost to the hands of the Dark Angels). My opponent had 3 land raider crusaders with a Bolter banner (oweth). Once again, I put my men in their chimeras and sent them forward. Death happened. Once he killed off my meltas, I conceded with no way to beat him. Also, he shot down my Vendetta while it was zooming (with the Kasrkin still inside). Needless to say, they got pasted all up and down the inside of that flyer.

The third game was a massive change from the first 2. Once again, I got put against Dark Angels. I got to go first (another tactical mistake I made in the first 2, I let my opponent deploy first) and I, once again, deployed my men in their chimeras in the event my opponent managed to steal the initiative. However, once it was determined that I would go first, I made the greatest tactical decision of the game: I dismounted all of my men from their chimeras. And the entire time I did so, my mind was screaming "WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS!?!?" Anyways, I made full use of my mens' camo cloaks and carapace armor, and dumped them into cover. Now, I know what you're thinking: "Smitty, what is this!? Carapace armor? And camo cloaks!? Are you crazy!?"

Yes. Yes I am. I know the arguments against Carapace armor, but when half of your men are packing plasma, and when the other half are facing flamers and bolters, it easily makes back that 3 points per model. Easily. Combined with camo cloaks, and your men become absolutely terrifying (especially when they go to ground).

Long story short, my men stomped the yard, Sammael was killed by a stubber round to the face, and Colonel Roland (Straken) punched a land speeder to death. I lost all of my chimeras, none of which had guardsmen inside them, 2 veteran squads, and a Vendetta. The only things my opponent had left were a dreadnought and a land speeder.

To sum it up: If you run Mechanized Grenadier Forward Sentries, whatever you do, do not keep them in their chimeras. Stick them in cover, and use the chimeras as a distraction. And make sure you can kill tanks. I removed a sentinel from my list and gave 2 of the squads demolitions so they can actually have a chance against a land raider. Let's see, what else...

Oh yeah, Carapace is awesome.

Like I mentioned earlier, I'll upload pics of the groin-guarded guardsmen later. I have to get through class.

Peace out, Smitty out.

UPDATE TIME AT LOOOOOONG LAST!!!

Alright, so you all probably remember that Bastonne model I did. Well, as I mentioned earlier, he fell off the table and, unfortunately, did not survive the fall. However, thanks to Imperial Medicine, he is back on his feet, and is far better than he used to be. Also, just because I can, I took the time to give each and every soldier a name. Due to the lengthy nature of such a task, I will only post the entire list here if you guys want me to. Anways...

Models!

I mentioned that one of my sergeants survived fighting a Howling Banshee, and earned a power sword because of it. Well...

Also, you all have probably noticed that they have some junk on their legs. That is because the old carapace was attached with super glue. It will probably not be an issue when I paint them though.

...Prooooobably...

Actually, no. It says that they may take "any of the following". It's generally discouraged, however, because each doctrine is 30 points (I actually look at it as being 3 points per model so it's not such an ugly number).

And THAT takes care of THAT! First squad done! All I have is...
[insert math here]
50 Veterans, 9 Kasrkin, most of the command squad, 6 chimeras, 10 rough riders, and 3 scout sentinels to goooooooooo! Woooooooo!
[Thumb - IMG_2056.JPG]
Squad face front!

[Thumb - IMG_2060.JPG]
Squad face left! That means you too, Mr. Plasmagunner!

[Thumb - IMG_2061.JPG]
Squad face right! That's correct, Mr. Plasmagunner!
