The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all

Okay, pretty tame by metal standards actually, but I'm getting back into them recently. Hmn, good looking german guys just do it for me I guess.
* On a side note, I'm reading the novel Fatherland right now (the edition with the big Swastika on the cover). So picture a guy in an army jacket, a seemingly fascist themed novel, and German metal playing full blast in his headphones. Now stick an elderly man with a poppy on his breast pocket on the train seat across from me. That was my train ride for a week. He stopped sitting in the same carriage as me after I said, "auf geht kameraden" to him as I left the train...
0.0 Luckily I didn't manage to get a haircut this week. ...I was going to get a buzzcut.

it doesn't matter if rammastien are 'tame' by metal standards, they are still freakingly cool!
And Kudos for the poppy thing....the Germans had to fight too....
Oh man, the first monster I see I'm going to sneak up behind him, whip out my wand, and shoot my magic all over his ass.

Ooooh, unlucky! I've never heard this band before, it actually sounds really cool! Fatherland is an epic book, I really enjoyed it. Is it the first time you're reading it?
Yeah, I just finished it last night (a bit after I posted here). I've seen parts of the film however. To me it really does have a feeling that its 1984 written with hindsite (ie 1984 was really about the Nazis, this book just explicitly made it clear). Not to say that it isn't anything more than that though, but there is some clear Orwellian plot devices at play in it.
Next up? Redshirts by John Scalzi. We in the UK have been waiting monthes for that damn thing to come out. I gave the hot young thing behind the counter in my bookshop a few death threats (as the author advised), and she quickly found me a copy. =)
I loathe Katy Perry, but then again, Polka's great.
AirMech soundtrack by Front Line Assembly...so damn good...

I enjoy them because their music videos can be pretty political, or at least have greater meanings to them. I mean take Ich Will, I'm getting the tone that anyone acting out against the system is publicized by the media and worshiped by the masses. Then it takes another step and says that doing this is just a step away from allowing a regime to take control (the Swat turn into Black shirts and the band go up on a podium with heavy Fascist themes, the dead band member being martyr). Then again Ohne Dich takes another route is more about brotherhood, but it has a bit of politics in it too. The lead singer is zealous, but the others seem to follow him. They see that he's still holding true to his old ideals, but not able to change. He dies at the end seeing the world as he wants it, and his views untarnished, but inevitably it will soon change. In a later video(Haifisch) its shown he was killed by another band member (note that only few of the band show care for his death, the others have expressions that imply that is was necessary), further hinting at this point. Meh, I get hints of the Lenin in it, but really this is just my take on their music videos, they're probably not the established messages that the band wanted.
Oh, and I had family on either side of that conflict, my mother's were on both sides of the fence in the death camps, whilst my father's, whilst being Irish, enlisted at various points in the war for the British. I'm not in the military like its been in my family for a few generations now, but most of my cousins on my mother's side are. I always liked going to my grandad's house when I was young because it was literally covered in the remnants of a military career. Walls were lined with weapons and banners, alongside trinkets from countries I didn't even know about when I was that young. He'd fought for the British as an emigrant, before enlisting in the French Foreign Legion, and as he put it, "went around the world knicking stuff". Both sides of that war were just common guys fighting for their countries, its the guys at the top that were signing the death papers (yeah, Cross of Iron is a favorite of mine).
Ack, turning my own thread into a political discussion. XD
0.o A Dead Poem? This isn't a conservative site, no need to censor something on the odd chance it might offend someone (lest they become a frothing mess whenever they enter the metal section of a record shop...).

I was thinking more the whole "Rotting Christ" thing, but you're still right. Although, I've been modded on another forum, albeit one much, much smaller than Dakka for posting Rotting Christ music, so that's made me especially leery of posting that particular band.
to make post relevant to thread (and, well, to make myself somewhat hypocritical for not spoilering this, since this should be, technically far more offensive to western religious sensibilities than even Rotting Christ):

The favorite band of the lead character in the Night Watch novels series, these guys were always a dirty pleasure of mine. (Though I was punched a few times by an ex for having them on a few playlists...)
And yes RatBot, I meant the Rotting Christ thing. I was just inferring that someone getting offended by a band's name is a tad silly, so I took the Dead Poems bit clearly what you were trying to shield the world from. XD

The thread is way too slow. Can't you just post a name and a non-embedded link like normal, bandwidth-conscious people?
I'm not trying to be an ass, but I seriously don't feel like waiting several minutes to load a single page just to read a post that interests me. Anyone's who interested in what you post will click the link. Embedding is unnecessary, and speaking personally, discourages people from posting.
Sex Pistols. Lots of it. It makes good walking music. Plus, it's the only thing on my iPhone that hasn't been played to death that's in english.
I'm both selfish and rational. I'm scheming, secretive and manipulative; I use knowledge as a tool for personal gain, and in turn obtaining more knowledge. At best, I am mysterious and stealthy; at worst, I am distrustful and opportunistic.

0.o Buy a faster computer dear. I'm sitting here in college on the five year old pieces of crap and it loaded this page in a second.Embedding allows people to watch the video on the fly without having to load a new webpage. If you just want to quickly try a song you can just click on it instead of having to spend more time loading (youknow, with bandwidth being at such a premium).

Gak, I am from the same area (Kalamazoo, MI) as these guys and still can't believe they made it out of all the others. So, thanks to you, I am listening to some of the bands from that time on the scene.
