Finished Prince of Crows and loved it. Classic AD-B quality and Night Lords: a great short story.

The discussion between Curze and Sevatar regarding Nostramo was epic and both had great points, Sevatar was a great character and the Night Lords as interesting as always. Great story all round.

A couple of things bugged me though; the ambiguous ending (which will no doubt be expanded upon later) and Curze's...

Magical recovery. I know he's a Primarch (hence it being pretty cool to see them so near-death), but he went from life support and comatose to fighting Jonson in moments, without explanation. This bugged me. That he was then also on the top of his game physically (literally described as a fair fight) was strange. Not a fan of the idea that he's still on The Invincible Reason (no way Lion would just let that slide) either, but we'll see how that pans out as well I guess.

I guess it was the same dealio as with Fulgrim on the butchers table in Reflection Crack'd, he got messed up pretty bad there but was frolicking like the pretty girl he was in no time.

The renegade Soul Drinkers continue their misguided campaign to free mankind from the tyranny of the Imperium in this second trilogy of novels by Ben Counter. In Chapter War, the Soul Drinkers, harried by loyalist Space Marines, fall into the grip of a devastating civil war. Hellforged sees the Chapter fleeing into the mysterious Veiled Regions where they encounter a new threat - the necrons. As they battle the undying aliens, the Soul Drinkers' past catches up with them as the Imperial Fists - their spiritual progenitors - arrive. Captured and put on trial, Sarpedon must find a way to save his warriors even as the Imperial Fists' mighty starfort Phalanx comes under attack from a horde of ravening daemons.

From the ashes of the Great Crusade, treachery was born. Always first among the superhuman primarchs, the newly dubbed Warmaster Horus turned his back upon the Emperor and embraced the dark powers of Chaos. With fully half the military might of the fledgling Imperium at his command, he set his sights upon the throne of Holy Terra and waged a war which would divide the galaxy forever...Visions of war, visions of darkness, of treachery and death - all of this and more is contained within this heretical volume. Iconic depictions of the Space Marine Legions and the heroes that commanded them are presented alongside artwork from renowned artists Neil Robert, as well as brand new historical notes on the Warhammer 40,000 universe by Alan Merrett. Witness the end of an era and the beginning of something far darker, as the Heresy continues to unfold.

Looks like a reprint, with a nice new cover.

Pretty impressive stuff - really enjoying the sense of scale added back to that image as an alternative to the more focused Adrain Smith piece before it.

Curious to see if the reprint of Visions of Heresy is just a reprint with a different cover, or adds new stuff to it. I hope it's the first one, I'd hate having to buy it again.

Yep, he's had that symbol for ages. It's based on the Eye of Horus from Egyptian mysticism and a bit of Sauron (even in the original book of LotR he had a cats eye. There's also the play on word of Eye of Terra and Eye of Terror. What is odd though is that Malcador also has an eye as a symbol and in Prospero Burns the Space Wolves often use a stylised eye as an apotropaic symbol to ward off malificarium (sorcery).

Bundles you say?

http://www.blacklibrary.com/horus-heresy/2012-horus-heresy-ebundle.html

BL are taking another page from GW's playbook and releasing a giant ebook bundle for the rough equivalent of buying them separately.
Same goes for most of the audio books, tho why you'd wanna have half abridged and half unabridged audio books is besides me.

But that's not imagery, it looks like some sort of doorway. Why would it be in the Emporer's Palace?

None of the other covers have really been shy of a remembrancer's redition of an actual event (except Legion because I can't tell what is going on there??).

It looks like it is the final battle on Horus' ship, so the eye would be there. Looks like there is a dead Sanguinius in the background.

Great cover, but what made me a sad panda was this quote on the blog:

While the end of the Horus Heresy series is still a long, long way away, Neil Roberts has already reimagined this classic confrontation.

I have a feeling we're gonna get a lot more "limited edition novellas about irrelevant gak" and short story anthologies....

Pretty sure Vulkan's colour was due to gene-seed, not warp-influence.

I could've sworn Astartes are quite frequently portrayed as having fangs, I seem to recall several mentions in Fear To Treat at least?

Sorry, I meant with "quite frequently" that only some astartes are described as having fangs IIRC, but quite frequently?

Agreed on the Primarchs/Warp thing.

I thought it was OK (although not one of Neil Robert's best).. until I saw and was reminded of the classic piece above.

Not even in the same league in terms of artistic merit. And it shows how flashy CGI effects are no substitute for decent composition and the expression of character and mood in artwork.
