Hi all,
The votes are in! And while there are not many of them they have made a clear choice. Knights of the Flaming Cheddar is the unanimous winner. Thanks to those that participated.
With the name of the chapter settled it is time to move onto finishing painting the army.
Lord Kaldor Asiago is next in line. Armor is the same color as the previous paladins and banner, cape, and cloth are the same gray-blue to white as the Brotherhood banner. I'm thinking the book on the back banner will be gold and I plan on black lining the book and "lightning bolts". Also, I haven't decided which colors will used on the shield iconography.
Thanks and take care

HI all,
I decided to add a bit more of the blue, used on the force weapons, to each model. Most of the tiny skulls have been switched from green or orange to blue. It seems to help balance the force weapons with the rest of the models.
Work progresses on Asiago. Greens and blues have been added since the previous update. I'm debating which color to use for the ribbon on the back banner and shield. I'm thinking the same pink used on the purity seals for the back banner will look good, but not as well on the shield. Any suggestions on which way to go?
Thanks and take care

Hi all,
I wasn't satisfied with the blue on the sword and decided to try again.
First Attempt
Do Over
I like this much, much better. It seems to be more dynamic.
I figured it was time to start on the display board. With an army of 23 models at 2,000 points I decided to use a 24" x 12" wood frame with 1" thick foam. The idea is to separate each unit with an ichor-ish filled ditch. The first step was to paint the areas where the models will sit.
Next step is to make the ditch. At first I thought I could just spray paint the board and the foam would melt into shape. Yeah, that didn't work quite they way I expected so I had to use a utility knife to dig out the areas.
Okay. Maybe spray painting the ditch will work better this time.
My four-year-old son took this photo and I didn't know until I was downloading the last batch of pics.
Close-up of "melting"
Through accident I found Testors Gray Primer does NOT melt foam. Who knew?
Close-up
I am very happy with how this turned out. It was what I envisioned and got there by complete accident. Sometimes it is better to be lucky than good.
I sprayed stripes and layers of black, gray, and white to give the board a little variation and depth.
I used some of LBursleys Algae wash on the base of the dictch.
Next is LBursleys Ruby Wash. I used painters tape to cover the ditch sections. The plan is to put down layers of glue to form a "river" of sludge, ichor, etc.
Here is the first (of many layers of glue).
It's been two days and not everything has dried.
This is going to take awhile.
Thanks and take care

Hi all,
Thanks. I generally only get to play in tournaments (two per year) and a tray to move the army from table-to-table is a must.
More work on Lord Kaldor Asiago. Body, shield, sword, and head are complete.
I tried Vallejo's black-gray for the first time. I wanted the skull cap to look very, very dark but not completely black and I think it worked. I usually do what I can to avoid painting faces however I wanted the characters to look a bit different than the other paladins. I'm satisfied with the the final look even though the eyes aren't quite aligned
This was the first time I found myself unable to focus on the very small details. Ugh. It may be time for .... bifocals. Ugh.
Next up - basing and assembly.
Thanks and take care

Hi all,
Lord Kaldor Asiago is finished!
First up are a few WIP photos of the base. The helmet is the same color as the sword but with a bit of age to it.
After all the painting and basing was complete it was just a matter of assembling Lord Asiago. It went together very well and not many touch-ups were needed.
I'm very happy with the final product. I know the color scheme isn't the most popular, but it does what I want it to accomplish
I think he makes a fine leader for the Knights of the Flaming Cheddar.
Next up - Vindicare Assassin!
Thanks and take care

Looking good but a couple of thoughts:
Purity seals look a bit unfinished - they blend into the legs, for instance, and if they were white they'd pop nicely.
Greens are strong but could maybe do with some edging (yellows?), oranges likewise.
Similarly, I think maybe it'd be worth a light drybrush of white over corners on the armour to lift it a wee bit.
I really like your style, and you're clearly a talented chap! Hope thoughts are of use.

Okay, what can I say. When your right, your right. And Graven, your right.
I went back and looked at completed paladins and decided to try all your suggestions (except one).
Purity seals went form pink to yellow. The "medallion" portion of the purity seal is already white, so I wanted something a little different that would still pops. The colors in order:
CB - Averlund Sunset
Reaper (RPR) - Sun Yellow
RPR - Lemon Yellow
White
CS - Casandora Yellow
50/50 Lemon Yellow/White
Typically, I highlight a color up to dots of white and than use a wash to somewhat blend the colors and than highlight with the last non-white. For most of this project I left out the last step in order to a bit more subtle. Why I went with subtle highlights when NOTHING else about this army is subtle I have no idea. Holding a model it was easy to see the highlights, however from three feet they disappeared. So taking Graven's suggestions I mixed 50/50 white and final non-white color (see example above) and now highlights can bee seen from farther away.
The last suggestion regarding a light drybrush of white. I tried it on a model and it didn't work the way I wanted. It just turned the purple/pink to white. I may have been applying to much.
Thanks Graven! You suggestions (and others like it) are the reason why I post. Another perspective is sometimes needed in order to get a painting project where you want it to go. I'll admit to not attempting every suggestion, but frequently the suggestions help clarify an area of inner debate regarding direction of a project.
Onto updated photos.
Next time - Vindicare Assassin - I mean this time, really
Thanks and take care

Thanks. The rules are a bit much especially now that's they can use the divination table. Blood Angels are about as close to angels as it gets. You can use a bunch of the winged models.

HI all,
I'm attempting to get this army finished in time for the Colonial GT. Typically this event is held in late March and this year it looks like it may be in late January. Last year it was held in a VFW with 40k in the basement and Fantasy upstairs in the main hall. The event was fun but the basement was dark and cramped (though we were right next to the bar). It looks like the organizers are attempting to make it two events, one for 40k and one for Fantasy (event started as a Fantasy only tourney). It also looks like the points total is being upped to 2,000. My original list was written and built for 1,850 so I needed to get jumping to find 150 more points. I thought about adding another paladin with a psycannon, but I didn't have the parts to make another (and add a fourth psycannon, because why have two when you can have four). Digging through my substantial pile of unused models I found a Vindicare Assassin I purchased years ago. Winner!
Admittedly, this project is a bit ... garish. I went a bit more traditional for the Vindicare. I did take a bit of inspiration from Lord Ventanri by using grays instead of total black. The colors used in order:
Primer: Army Painter Uniform Gray
VMC - Black Gray
50/50 mix - Black Gray/Stone Gray
VGC - Stone gray
50/50 mix - Stone Gray/Cold Gray
VGC - Cold Gray
50/50 mix Cold Gray/ White
White
VW - Black
50/50 mix Cold Gray/ White
I painted the base at the same time as Lord Asiago.
Thanks and take care

I would, but I already have a Caboc.
I added a touch of color to Vindicare Assassin Smiley. A little bit of turquoise on his communications/sensor gear and a smiley face on his pistol holster. After securing him to the base I attached his rifle.
The display board is on it's fourth layer of glue. Photos will be added once everything dries.

Nice work on the Vindicare, albinoork. I love the touch of turquoise on this guy; it's a great spot color for this scheme. I love the smiley face, too; very... Alan Moore. I might have liked to see it on the skull on his codpiece, though...
@Graven: I don't think black-gray is necessarily urban camo. It seems to me that it would work other places, too, so I think the tree works.
