The secret is that I pretty much just paint any time I'm not doing anything that requires much use of my hands. So I'll just put a few coats of paint down while I'm watching something, on the phone, or what have you. A few good podcasts helps too!

Also, I'm starting work on a pair of Hellhounds:

Hellhounds, woo! Shame they're not the old-school ones though, the new look works for me on the Devil Dog and Banewolf, but I just love the classic hellhound.

Rad, I actually really like the new Hellhound, it's a great kit, which is odd as I prefer the older Chimera.

The tanks on the back of the new kit and variant turret make it look like a seperate vehicle rather than a Chimera with bolt ons, I added some side armour to mine as well to justify the AV12..

I'm with Randy on this one; I like that it's a bit more distinct from Chimeras than the old Hellhound. It's not as cool as the Forgeworld ones, but I do prefer it to the old metal hybrid kit, for both aesthetic and construction reasons.

Maybe the new kit with the old turret then? I guess I'm just conservative on this one... YMMV and so on.

I can't say I'm a fan of the old nozzle flamer barrels - they made the thing look like a squirt gun! They look okay on infantry, but on a big attention-grabbing tank I don't like the look.

I like the FW Hellhound, but the idea of that big unarmored tank on the back of the vehicle doesn't sit well with my military training.

One thought: Why don't you use the tank riders as HP markers? Each tank starts with 2 that are magnetized on. Lose a HP, remove it to reveal a bloody streak on the tank underneath. It would help keep track and be a cool modeling option. Plus its another excuse to get more of them. haha

I started building this army just on the cusp of 6th, so a few vehicles were built before the Hull Point system was really in. Honestly though, your idea is really cool! If I had planned it that way from the beginning, I might have done it, but there are a few reasons why I wouldn't do it:
1. Those models would get a lot of wear and tear getting pulled off my tanks every game. Even with the amount of varnish I put on my models (1 coat of glosscoat and 2 of dullcote) there still ends up being some visible wear. I'd be touching those guys up pretty often!
2. That would require a lot more tank riders than I actually have. They're fairly hard to get for decent price, and I've seen individuals go for upwards of $10. I just got lucky and happened to get a few in some of the lots I purchased!
3. Thematically it might not make sense on every vehicle. I know I wouldn't want to be riding on the side of a Hellhound! Between the breakneck speed and the enormous flamethrower turret, I think I'd rather stick in the back lines!
Good idea though! If I was doing a plastic army I'd definitely consider it. Also, expect updates on the Hellhounds soon; like maybe even tonight. I did a ton of freehanding on them and it's gonna be cool.

Painted these in like 3 evenings during a work week where I stayed late at the office almost every night. I don't even know.

Very cool hellhounds. Love the fuel tanks especially. And I still can't stop drooling over those wrecked markers.

I wish I could tell you! It's just from one of the pretty pictures in the 3rd ed rulebook so I can't say, but I have confidence the men of Valhalla took the day There was a guy on Warseer who actually rebuilt all the terrain from that diorama; if the terrain-making bug ever bites me, I'll look into remaking that fort they've got.

Hopefully! I haven't gotten to game in a bit but I hope to put them on the field soon. Once I paint these psykers I've got I'll be able to field 2500 points pretty comfortably!

It was a real challenge to paint these guys in a way that both highlighted their ridiculousness and flamboyant models, yet tie them in with my Valhallans. Using the same colors for the psychic hoods, pants, and boots helps, but I don't know if that actually detracts from the models.

Its a hard one to call, I think they look really good and at the moment there is just the right amount of colour sharing, there's a possibility they would look nicer still with different colours but I think leave it for the united look.

I actually stood them next to some of my other Valhallans, and at least from behind they pretty much fit in! The brown psychic hoods and leggings really fit in with the mobs of Guardsmen. I'd love to make them more garish, but I like that I can actually identify them as Guard units.

Primaris Psykers; I was thinking of giving their skin a more purple hue, but I figured that would push them outside of space pimp territory and right into the Genestealer Cult domain.

I don't really have much intent of furthering the theme I have plans for counts-as Sisters of Battle using Adeptus Arbites models, but no clue if I'll ever get around to it.
