Currently painting up a scavvy gang using non GW models for our necromunda campaign. I found these models and loved the sandman with guns look. Im still undecided how Im going to model the bases and looking for suggestions on what to use to level off the base to the bottom of the models boots and also a theme (ie snow/rubble/industrial) which will suit the models and look of outcasts.

For the bases, a rusty/sandy look with some twisted wires, Fallout style. To get rid of the bases, dremel carefully or even then out with green stuff or miliput. Other than that, its good to see someone using the Pig Iron models differently.

I think ill go for leveling out the bases. I was leaning towards a sandy type bases anyway due to the fact that my gang's background is based around them being the local scruffy scavvies that live on the outskirts of an underhive settlement. Admittedly there are not many deserts in the underhive so your suggestion of a fallout type look is more the direction i will most likely go. Ill post some more pictures when i paint up the next 5. hoping to start modeling the bases fairly soon.

Any other ideas are still much appreciated.

Nice work there! I'd kind of go with DeamonJellyBaby advice of either dremel or simply clip/cut those bases away. I wouldn't use GS though if I felt removing them was to much work. In that case I'd just hide them under all the rubble, some fine gravel and all sorts of junk would do it I guess.

Always outnumbered, never outgunned.

I thought the bases would look something like this
http://www.pcgameshardware.com/screenshots/original/2008/12/Fallout3_HD_Texture_02.jpg
Sand and brass with a red/brown wash would do as rusted metal or wasteland sand.

Out of curiosity, where are you? I'm looking to join a necromunda campaign after exams

We are based mostly W and SW London and games will be around that area. Our campaign is looking to meet approx once a month (possibly twice) starting first week of august. We have a facebook group set up for the campaign so if your local and wish to join then send me a message here and ill give you details. That is open to all we're all painting up gangs at the moment in slow time and getting all the scenery sorted.

That link is unavailable to me daemonjellybaby it says no deeplinking please.

I dont trust myself with a dremel ill 99% go for the masking over

Just an update on the gang. Planning on basing them at the end but i recently greenstuffed 3 mutants and added them to the gang with the addition of the leader and one other.

Mutant with tentacle

Nice painting there, these guys look great.

How many do you plan to have in your starting lineup? And are you going to bring some scalies to the party?

Sorry, I think I wrote too much.

Yeah my scalies are incoming in the post (hans the hunter for those that are interested and some other dude whose name I forget right now but are models from other ranges), we are using the latest ruleset from GW for our campaign. I think for a starting lineup im done (ganger wise) but I have another 7 or so to add in time, assuming that I progress well enough. Got to paint up my spikes mutant and a few others then get amongst the bases.

If you've not played scavvies before it might be worth checking out my scavvy tactics thread. If you have then maybe you could throw some advice my way!

I found them pretty hard to use. But the consensus seems to be to go for as many as possible: quantity over quality.

Ace. I'm a bit jealous. Wish I'd bought these Pig Iron chaps for my scavvy gang. Is it wrong to have two scavvy gangs..? Hmm...

Having said that, these guys are good too:

You have a really good looking Gang there!
The Pig Iron miniatures fit well and the painting is also very good.
As for the basing, Try toxic sludge and scrap metal, as if they dwell deep down in the Underhive. Or failing that, perhaps they were exiled from the badzones and left to fend for themselves, living upon lingering sewage and discarded scraps.
Basing is a good way of telling a story, or emphasising narrative throughout the Gang. Put it to good use.

Good luck in the Campaign my friend!
Hope to see more!
