I haven't thought of doing GI Joe, but here's a figure you could use for cobra Commander. Check out the second head option it comes with

No problem. Happy to help!

Some of the links are old, but there's some good information and possible figs here as well:

I've been lobbying on HC Realms for years to have them do a GI Joe/Cobra collector set.

Good luck. Hasbro charges an arm and a leg for licensing and I doubt a company as small as the new Wizkids could afford it.

Also, remember that they're technically in competition with Hasbro(who owns Wizards of the Coast), so it's even less likely.

One suggestion, that may or may not be in the links I supplied was to use Pig Iron heads to make Viper miniatures. There were so many different kinds of vipers and there's probably a miniature out there that represents the body of each type, all you need is an appropriate head and a nice bold paint scheme. These heads from pig iron might work.

GIJoe would be the only way, I would get back into any clix game.

Eastern Frontier Exploratores
224th Astra Legion (main army)
628th Praetorian Guard Cohort (wife's army)
827th Auxilia Cohort (ad mech fun)
825th Foderati Cohort (in the beginning army)
1212th Foederati Cohort - Jokaero (cause I like apes with guns)

Aye, been a fan of Action Force/GI Joe since 82, so a clix version would be a must buy for me, any excuse to moving around the characters in a wargame environment really.

My two dream teams for the tabletop would be..

GIJoe
Snake Eyes
Scarlett
Stalker
Tunnel Rat
Jinx
Beach Head
Leatherneck

Cobra
Destro
Baroness
Zanya
Zatanna
Buzzer
Ripper
Thrasher
BAT x2

Damn, now you've got me over thinking the possibilities.

I wanted to make custom GI Joe's myself for a long time. I finally started work on this. You can follow my progress in my blog: http://www.toco.be/blog

I'm using a lot of HeroClix mini's.

Just out of Curisoity, why not use the actual action figures in a larger scale game experience?

Some folks have done this, but you need a really, really big table. Remember that if you tripple of the miniature (roughly the translation of 28mm to 3.75 inch figures) you're going to much more more than double the size of the terrain, you need. In reality you'd proably only double the size, but that's still alot.

Could be a fun game on piles of books and couches in a game room, but not terribly practical from a wargaming (table size, building terrain, etc) perspective.

Saw the trailer for Retribution yesterday. Ridiculously pumped about London getting blown up. That Not Cobra Commander miniature is so cool. I might have to get one...

In my blog on BoardGameGeek I post all my WIP about 28mm tabletop games and miniatures.
I have quite some blogposts about custom GI JOE HeroClix miniatures there too. Have a look if you're interested.

It will be interesting to see what Wizkids does with their licence acquisition --they have some access now (future) to do GI Joe, My Little Pony and Transformers products. Buzz in all those fan scenes is the high hope that minis games will be apart of their releases, not just minis for collection.
Rather than HC I'd love to see a new collectible Joe game. and MLP would be a great minis gateway for younger kids / fans.
