Hate to be cheeky but has anyone got a spare beta key for a friend of mine? He's the only one in our gaming group who hasn't secured a key thus far.

The distance was not that long.

The game isn't optimized for multiple cores yet. It's my big problem right now.

It was horribly unfun to fight against, and removed a level of interactivity from the game. The only respite was when I could get behind a line of Phoenix users, wait for them to fire, and then gun them down while they were flying their missiles around. Unfortunately, this doesn't happen often when there's guys behind what are essentially castle walls shooting them the majority of the time. That weapon is a cool weapon in a single-player game, but in a game where other people are playing against you it's not fun at all.

I run a 6 core (AMD Phenom II) and I still go down to 20 FPS in huge battles... and the ingame FPS thingymajig assures me that it's 'cos of my CPU (I get about 50 fps in normal fights)

I have a 2.67 ghz dual core at the moment. But the game only ever takes up a single core, so it's not using the full potential of my processor anyway.

The Missile pack guys had a couple of counters.

1) Stealth suits messed up their day.

2) Aircraft messed up their day

3) Snipers messed up their day

A frontal assault would not.

It was not guard tactics, don't just throw more people at it.

Yes, and it was a lot of fun on the rare occasion I could get behind a nest of them and go all out. However, you shouldn't have to use infiltrators, snipers, or aircraft to deal with a simple and man-portable weapon that only one empire had access to. It encouraged camping and turtling, which is terrible game design. Battles should be moving, not hiding behind walls or other cover for indefinite amounts of time. A forest full of Phoenixes was incredibly hard to clean out, or get away from given their range.

I was sure that this got fixed?

Dual Core is not going to run the game... pretty sure it wants quad core at the least?

So the game is launching on the 20th; if you're not already in beta, the wait's almost over! It'll also be available on Steam, for the low, low price of free! A number of optimizations have been put in place - when beta started, I had to run on medium settings with some things set to low. Now I can play on high and it's like playing a whole new game!

Wow, Uni work has made me forget the eternal crusade begins in 2 days... cannot wait to really start unleashing holy wrath in the name of the Republic. Need to make a vanguard/templar outfit and then wait for more melee weapons.

Only then will those purple and blue freaks know true fear.

It would be nice if they added some melee weapons though. Nothing too over the top though, but i can imagine light infantry and max suits wielding some sort of long blade and powerfist

That is something that's missing from a lot of FPS style games. Halo actually got it pretty right, with having just two or three melee options among the guns.

Though in Planetside, I think really only the MAXs would have anything of worth- maybe a pile-driver type Big-O fist or spikefor taking out other MAXs and tanks.

Too bad there isn't destructible terrain. That'd be awesome, if a MAX could just come bursting through a wall like the KoolAid man.

Looking at Planetside 2 specs on Steam and for recommended it said that 6 cores but speaking to people they say that a game can't use 6 cores is that right or is Steam wrong here and can't wait till after Christmas and play it on my computer.

You know Warhammer is getting to real when you being using 40K swears, for example "fug" and "Emperors Hairy Arse!" When writing this the word arse was not recognized, well done.
