Does anyone actually play the land forces in DW? I've only been able to garner interest in my local gaming group for the naval battles so far, do the land units have a unique feel or is it just the sea battles on the land with smaller turning radius?

Depends what you mean by 'feel'. They use the same mechanics and stats, so it won't feel like a different game. But there should be more terrain to block LoS, and the lower movement speeds and different turning arcs will make a difference.

I've found that land battles do indeed have a distinct flavor as compared to naval battles; the differences in maneuverability (being able to stop at any time, using the 45 degree template, etc) and the differing power levels really require a player to approach the game differently than a naval battle.

works for me. Was trying to decide if it was worth it to plop down for a land starter or two to see if the group likes it, or hold out for trying out Dropzone

Well I finally have some experience with my own land forces now...
At first I was worried the land games would play out just like naval only on land. However, it does have a much different feel to it is so it not just a rehash of the same game only on land now instead of water.
The land forces seam to be the least popular of all three (Sea, Air and Land) and do not feel as fleshed out as the other respective parts of a force because you generally have less selection of units.
The land game is different from a lot of other games like say 40K. The scale makes it feel epic but it is definitely not a WWII tank game nor a game of lines of battle ala-Napoleonics. Terrain can be a huge pain and is pretty significant to land forces.
I am a big fan of naval warfare and my group so far prefers the naval side. Still, I think I would enjoy this game in a group that only did the land side as well. Another thing going for the land forces is you seam to get a lot more for your $.

The club my friend goes to plays a lot of dystopian wars, and they play quite a lot of land battles and enjoy it thoroughly, as much as the naval and air fleets anyway.
Haven't got any land forces myself, although with the Russians coming out I'm sorely tempted.
From what I've been told, land battles can be easier to pick up than sea battles, because a little of the complexity that occurs in all-sea & air battles goes away a little.

Good to hear the land game is getting a little traction out your way, Zero! I can see how that branch of the game might be easier to pick up on, since it is more forgiving with movement and doesn't have as many different unit interactions going on.

Well, it is for my friend anyway (he lives in Kent, more or less opposite side of the country to me), I go to a local club where there is very little interest in Dys Wars (well, spartan games in general). There's one or two people that play it I believe, but not many.
Still didn't stop me buying 6 tanukis and an Ika (going to use the submerged version as a 'normal' ika with the addition of some tentacles from the parts service). As for land forces, if I can get Dys Wars to gain a little momentum down my way I might invest in some Russians, or wait a while and see if some sort of walker-heavy force turns up

I have had a few games using the Armored starter boxes. They have a nice feel to them, I was sold the moment my landship reversed over two enemy tiny tank tokens.
I can't wait to try out an an-fib assault on a beach.

I have to wait till my group finishes an Infinity campaign they are starting in November before we add DW land combat.
I've 0.0% interest in Infinity so I'm planning on using that time to paint up whichever land force I choose. Or maybe do more than base coat the 4 fleets I've picked up.

A strait land vs. air fight would be a bit challenging for the land units, as in general land units have fairly low AA values. If you have some air support of your own, though, it might be OK. The key would be to whittle down the enemy air units outside of RB1, where your ordnance weapons can hurt them.

Haha ment an air core of EotBS for me, plus seems with the advent of french skimming smalls my groups resident ROF player is looking at just a skimming force instead (so doupt AA coming my way will be an issue ) Still we like to keep it friendly, and if air vs land is that unbalanced may save the air and go for land just to keep the playing field level
