There used to me a gaming store near the Cathedral of Learning. I forget what it was called, but they had a couple of tables for wargaming. They were a bit unfriendly though, rather rudely told a curious customer who asked about WH40K that they wouldn't be allowed to play at the store without fully painted models.

It's called Phantom of the Attic, they are generally a very closed group of players, who quiet honestly arent very good. Most of them buy their models painted, I have sold several peices there for a decent price. Good place to look for newbies with money to spend on painted models and conversion. If you want a good group of players, skilled and friendly as well as open to teach new players definately go to Legions Games, on Route 19, Perrysville PA 15237.

Ah, yes, that's the name of the place. I was in Pittsburgh about 8 years ago and a friend of mine stopped at Phantom of the Attic to buy some things for his D&D game. I saw the Warhammer stuff on display and I curiously asked what the game was. The employee behind the counter seemed annoyed that I didn't know what the game was. He pointed me to a guy who appeared to be a customer, who explained a little bit of wargaming to me.
I then asked if I bought an army, if I could play at the store since there seemed to be an area for it. I was rather rudely told that only if I painted my army (Not primered) and had at least 3 different colors on my troops. Overall, it was a very poor experience. I didn't end up getting into WH40K until 8 years later (In June of this year) because the only community I knew of in the area seemed to be buttheads.

Thats a shame, very typical of that area. But like I said legions is amazing. I go out there occasionally for some tournaments for free money, but they very rarely do that anymore. They dont like outsiders coming in and winning, they try and keep it as closed as possible. I'm really not sure how that store manages to stay open with how poor the service is and being so unwilling to let new players in. Especially because their tables and terrain are not professional quality by any means. I mean my girlfriend has made some great terrain for our home board and she has the artisitic ability of a 3yr parapligic, and its as good as anything they have if not better. I can see fully painted armies bringing in interest for people to watch, but they don't even want people sitting there trying to watch and learn. They just want to take your money and shove you out the door.

I never bothered to go back. I wasn't prepared to spend money on a new wargaming hobby if I felt like the only place I could play was at the Attic. Funny enough, I pretty much forgot all about Warhammer 40K until this summer, when I saw a guy wearing a Chaos Star tattoo on his elbow and I recognized it from Warhammer Online Age of Reckoning. We got to talking and he invited me to a store in Morgantown, WV to take a look around. I've been hooked ever since.
Maybe if gas prices drop down to a reasonable level at some point, I could drive up to Legion and visit. Would be cool to meet other players from Dakka, such as yourself Tookyflakes. As it is, I live near Uniontown and it's a 50 mile drive to Pittsburgh.

Legions is easily the best place to go in the area. Tons of welcoming, helpful players, like 16 tables with professional-quality terrain, good selection of products from all sorts of wargames, etc.
It's the best store I've ever personally been to.
There's an event this saturday as well; Night of the Living Plastic, I believe. Bring down a kill-team and fight endless waves of zombies with us. Should be fun.

I go out uniontown a lot. One of my airmen live out there and his car isnt too reliable so I find myself picking him up to take him to our base in Annville frequently. Is there any stores out in that area? I sadly only play fantasy but I know our 40k crowd at legions is verly large, and growing steadily.
Captn is Dom running the kill team event tomorrow?
