Subject: The now less lazy Dark Angel blog - Sneaky Beakies
You've got magnetic melta bombs for when you really, positively absolutely have to melt some heretics
More of the squad
These took a really long time to paint, but I'm pretty happy with them overall. Next up is the bike libby I made above, and then I think I have to do the rest of this squad + at least one of their chaplain/Medic/bannerbro.
Excited also for the DA opportunities in the new box set!
Thanks lads for the kind words @JulietTango343 you've earned yourself a unit too!
Here's the two new lads to keep the Black Knights in line - These are the two conversions above. I had to redo the bike arm on the chappy to get the join to look better, and Im pretty happy with how these panned out. Hopefully they are still playable in 9th and don't get squatted by their bigger, better new brothers (not that I've actually played a game in 8 years, but this virus has to end some time right?)
Chaplain Jeduthun (Meaning ‘praising’ or ‘judgement’, Jeduthun and he is a lord of the evening choirs of Heaven. He is known as the “Master of Howling” and leads myriads of angels in their chants and praise of God at the end of every day). This seemed both appropriate for a Chappy and can be shortened to JT for JulietTango343
Librarian Lahatiel (There are seven angels of punishment, and one of them is Lahatiel. He rules over the gates of death, the second of the seven lodges of Hell. He is one of the fallen angels, and is responsible for the punishment of ten nations.) This seemed appropriate for a smiting chap on a bike.
And some closeups -
Really happy with how the bone turned out on this guy. He looks pretty terrifying. I forgot the model itself had a pistol on the bike when I hid some modeling sins with another one. He can now John Woo some fools whilst singing angry songs I guess.
Happy with the cape and most of the detailing, but my whites in flat areas are still a bit crap. I think I might actually have a slightly dicey pot of White Scar as I had to rehydrate it. I think I'll buy another one and see (bad workman/tools and all that).
I think I'm going to do a Sammy on Speeder i just put together and after that I really need to do some troops rather than just constantly doing HQs. Probably the intercessors from the DI box and then the last 5 Black Knights. At which point hopefully my Indomitus box will be here and I can take a stab at those!
Those are both excellent! I agree with youwashock : They're both good but that chaplain is in a league of his own. Great work on the cracked effect on the skull helm.
youwashock wrote: Those two rock! Great names, great models. Of the two, I think Jeduthun just edges out his partner on coolness. Because skulls.
Haha thank you - Please note, these are definitely good guy skulls and not bad guy skulls.

I also wanted to really differntiate it form Talon Master, and represent the iron halo equivalent he has, so I came across the idea of using the champion bits from the BK kits. I think it turned out pretty solid in the end!
Change of plan re next models - Im going to have a crack at a Land Raider Crusader - I've got a lot of termis from back in the day, and from what I've read about the new edition they are supposed to be pretty solid. I bought the FWDA doors for it as well, so I reckon it should look pretty decent - I just have a lot of cleanup to do, as when I did it way back when I seem to have done a pretty crap job of it!
Otherwise, this weekend I think I'm going to do a bit of a model audit and point out what I've got painted/not painted and see what I can build towards next. I've got a pretty big backlog sitting around it seems!
I really think I need to buy a proper light tent as well, as nothing seems to look decent in the photos - I promise this model actually looks better IRL!
I'd say it looks pretty darn cool. The book turned out sweet, and the Iron Halo worked out great. Digging the sword, too. Looking forward to the Raider.

WoW! really nice chappies! and the libby is great too.
I also used a ton of character bits on my landspeeders and land raider mostly left over from deathwing terminator boxes (man that kit come with a SERIOUS amount of cool bits) plus the odd ravenwing upgrade sprue I had lying around from back when the "ravenwing attack squadron" box was released.
Quick question: whats your opinion on the recently previewed primaris chaplain on bike? Frankly, i think it needs more skulls like yours.

Its definitely something that I really like about DA - You get so much bling and bits in all the kits that you can make really different models to anyone else - Classic example being that two of their biggest models Sammy & Belial don't even have models for the full option set. Before they made the Sword/Bolter Belial model, it was kind of a DA badge of honour to make your own Belial. Its definitely a modelers/collectors army for sure.
I think the base model itself is very cool, but I agree that bar the book on the front, its not as traditionally "chaplainy" as I think it could have been - I definitely think I'll buy one (well obviously I will as I have no impulse control) but I think its definitely a candidate for getting blinged up a fair bit!
Also, in keeping with previousm you now get to a model in the army - After the LR I'm going to do some intercessors - Do you want to be a techmarine with a melta poking out the tank or an interessor sergeant?
Ok - I apparently have 2,932 Painted Points and 4,509 Unpainted Points of DA. Thats more than I thought for sure. Going through these lists also made me realize that you can't put TH/SS on Deathwing Banner Bros and Apothecaries any more, so those are illegal sadly (and they are painted!). Its also made me realize that I've lost one of my two Stormravens in the Warp somewhere. I still have the magnetized bits for the second, but not the hull... That kinda sucks.
Sorry to hear about your missing raven. Do you usual play with friends you know or more of a random/tournament scene? It seems like somebody would have to be pretty uptight not to let you use your TH/SS termies at least as counts as, if not just letting you get away fielding them as is. Also the Landspeeder looks great. Can Sammael still ride that thing? I thought I read somewhere that it had been given to his new lieutenant. Either way, phenomenal work!
I'm not as stuck in the mud as some fellow sons of caliban about things (although there will be hell to pay if they touch my beloved termies)
On the th/ss thing..best option is stick a cyclone on top (we still get to do that unlike anyone else) and bung it in a unit.
Apothecaries are very useful for deathwing (especially when they start raising the dead) so keep it, keep it behind a unit (preferably of knights and buddying up next to your ancient who will obviously be carrying the relic banner from ritual of the damned as it has been faqd to be in addition to its normal rules not replacing)
Have you got a termie chappy yet? its quite possibly the best terminator model Gw ever produced and is proudly leading my soon to be built crusade list ( I shall in return name him Brother Eepsenstein, along with his best mate apothecary Vazalenius, DA recruit from many worlds so different naming conventions are fine )

Back when I lived in Oz, I used to play with a group above a pub in Sydney. Was delightful! Its more my own anal retentiveness tbh - I want to have everything full WYSIWYG so Ill probably just get another box and redo the apoth/bannerdude. I really liked my banner dude as well
Paintjob was nothing special, but the conversion was fun. The text on the banner was basically bad Latin, sorry High Gothic, for "I bet we deepstrike mishap off the table and die" which is what used to happen to be A LOT playing Deathwing.
princeyg wrote:OOOH...techy or intercessor? ummmm
I'll take the intercessor please

Ok done - You're up after the LR then!
I'm just hoping maybe the new codex allows them to take options again, who knows. Yeah I do - Thats in the backlog too. Its a metal one, so can be thrown as a weapon if in grave need. Will definitely get round to painting it at some point in the next 10 years - Its definitely a very cool model. I would be honoured to be your yelly skull laden chap!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Cancel that - I've just rechecked and whilst the Apothecary is dead, Bannerbros still get to have Thunder Hammers. Good times! That said, I'll probably strip and repaint this at some point as the paint job is a bit average.
I've also found the bits on ebay to do up a new DW Apothecary and Company Champion, probably grafted on to some of the Dark Vengeance termis. On which note I also realized that I didn't count the 2 sets of that + 4 razorbacks toward my unpainted horde. This is going to be a long blog...

Yeah exactly! There was some really good bits you could pinch from fantasy back in the day - I havent really checked out that model line since AOS became a thing - I might have a browse this afternoon for some promising bits.
Hopefully I can get the LR done of the weekend, with tech marine Matariel in charge. You'll be pleased to know that you're the Angel of Rain(ing down Melta on heretics)

Quick aside to answer this, sammael still has his landspeeder option but they added a new lieutenant option called a Talonmaster that uses the same bits and has some very nice rules.
Back on topic, that light has made a massive difference to your pics and yes, my termie chappy is also the lump of metal one
Looking forward to seeing the LR (are you planning on deathwing colours or greenwing for it?)

Ooh. Very much agree on the lightbox. Thanks for including the link. I actually ordered one myself as I have been pretty unhappy with my current lightbox.
Edit: And very nice job on Sammael by the way. I love that model, It had almost primaris grav tank levels of dakka before it was cool...

It has been pointed out that the chappy I named after you was a bit too close to another certain name which had epste.... in it, therefore to avaoid embarrasing references, he is now reverend brother Eepsilon.
Again, no similarities to persons living or dead are intended.

So my Land Raider plans went sideways as it turns out my airbrush has broken, and Im definitely not painting that with a brush!
Inspired by you, I decided to do my Termi Chaplain instead - Clearly insufficient skulls so he got some on his base
I did the purity seals on the stormbolter in green so it didnt just tie in with the gun. Not 100% sure I like it so I might change them back later. Otherwise I think this turned out pretty good. I've now got more chaplains than you can shake a stick at. I've got a jump chappy model (but painted for Flesh Tearers, but I could strip it) and I've got a Chappy Dread about as well. I think that gives me more or less the full collection of mad zealots once the Indominitus box turns up!
@Princeyg - Do you want this guy instead of your intercessor Serge so we can do a swap into each others armies?

Very nice chaplain! I would be honored to be a member of the reclusiam!
Mines a little different as I went for mostly black, but with bone shins and pauldrons (for deathwing).
My stormbolters are green as i find it gels better with the lighter colours of my terminators but most of the other weapons have a bit of red on them.
Great work again though!
Honestly cant picture any self respecting Dark Angel collector not having a ton of interrogator chaplains (i've got 1 termie and 4 power armour ..and soon to be 1 primaris).
Sorry to hear about your airbrush...I did paint my Redeemer by hand (as my tiny flat is not conducive to spraying and I don't have a garden area) so I can understand as it did take AGES tobasecoat..fortunately, detailing was pretty quick.

Subject: Re:The now less lazy Dark Angel blog - Termi Chaplain!
You could do the wax seals in more purples and pinks than reds. I've found that purple washes and pink highlights on a dark red base are enough to differentiate from a purer red gun. I'll post my terminators where I did this here: compare the wax seal on the leg to the gun casing colour. Different enough to be distinct.
Terminator Chaplain looks excellent. Great model with a great paintjob. Eyes and face are perfect. Little dash of script on the left shoulder is a nice touch.

Very nice work. I really like the gold trim on the back of the legs. Makes it a lot more visually interesting -- which is important as the back is always facing you when you play meaning you always have to look at it.
