That Terminator Chaplain really is a great model, which gets better with a great paint job too. Nice and clean paintwork Eeps, good stuff!

Thank you both - If I ever get there, you can both have an indomitus commemoration model!

Zee Land Raider is done! Its done in the same way as the Deathwing general - Its kinda drybrushing, but all over rather than just the edges. I think it gives it a look more like bone dust than the solid creamy/white most people paint them.

All the options are done so I can switch out. HunterKiller is magnetized so it can sit on top as well

Big fan of the Forgeworld doors to make it distinctly Dark Angels-y

The post tracker tells me my Indomitus will be here tomorrow - I think I'll try and paint some of that up next, probably with some light conversions to add some DA specific bling to the models

The dustier bone does look really good. Much more realistic on the large flat panels I think.

Awesome tank. The icons are a great element. The grittier finish is working, too. Loving the texture.

Thank you all - Very kind!

I've got a wee bit done, but not loads. Have assembled all the Indomitus box at least! Here's some stuff what I have painted since last post -

Half the intercessors from DI box set:

@Zergsmasher - This will be squad Zabesael in your name, one of the angels of the seasons

Thunder Hammer Belial - This was earlier in the thread from before the hiatus, but he got beaten up on my US move so I remade him a bit differently -

and finally - As I didnt have enough members of the reclusiam to keep everyone in line, I did the Judiciar. Same as everyone else, I really didnt like the default head, so I swapped that out and also added some Sang Guard wings for a bit of extra Angel of Death vibes. Reckon it came out ok!

@Gwyn chan 'r Gwyll - This chap is called Ga’ga for you (hey its hard to find Angel names with Gs and apostrophes. Ga'ga is found in hechaloth lore and is a guardian angel of the seventh heavenly hall.

Im seriously short on painted troops I think, so Ill do the other 5 intercessors and then try and finish the Indomitus box!

I am honored!

That Land Raider turned out really nice! The FW doors really are cool; I wish I had some when I did my own Land Raider (which is still unfinished as far as painting goes). I'm liking what you're doing with all the characters and stuff too. Keep it up!

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000

Wings look good on the judiciar. I do feel a little bad for the guy that designed the mini, as almost no one I've seen wants to use him as is... Also, great work on the intercessors. Did you decide to go with red helms for the sergeants or is that a one off?

Nice job on the judiciar. He looks suitably intimidating, good choice of head too! I suspect he’ll get his standard head when I get around to him, my bits box isn’t very extensive! The wings were a great addition, and kudos for layering them inidividually and with more than one colour! That’s some patience!

ARE YOU SAYING THAT THE DARK ANGELS ARE NOT PASSIONATE ADHERENTS TO THE CODEX ASTARTES!!?!

In all honesty, I always like helmetless sergeants, so all of mine are bareheaded. I just fancied making the helmet stand out a bit, so decided to follow the Codex. I too feel bad for that guy - I have visions of the sculptor proudly showing their mum the model and she's there asking him why everyone's changing it...

Thank you sir! Here are your honour guard, squad Goneal (Gonael is one of many angel guards stationed at the gates of the North Wind.) I'm hoping your a Northener and this fits nice. If you are a softy southern type, my apologies

I know the open handed chap with the skull on his hat is supposed to be the sergeant technically, but one of the models had an accident with the snippers coming off the sprue so he got a new head (and as noted above, I prefer my sergeants manly and helmetless. Im sorry about your hairloss also.

Viterbi wrote:Wow, the wings on the Judiciar look amazing (as does the rest of the model)! Very fitting conversion.

Thank you! Say hello to Eradicator squad Vrihaspati (The angel Vrihaspati is the angelic guardian of hymns and prayers and appears in Vedic lore. Vrihaspati is described as an ‘instructor of Gods’ and was ‘first born in the highest Heaven of extreme light’.)

I hope you and your friends have an excellent time blowing up some tanks for me when we are allowed outside!

In other hobby news, I've purchased the ubiquitous Detolf! I've ordered some extra shelves that are on the way, and hopefully before the sun burns out I can fill this thing with minis!

Next off the block - As I realized above, the DW Champion & Apothecary can no longer have TH/SS, so I found the bits out of the DW box on ebay and kitbashed with the DV boxset to produce the below - I think they turned out pretty solid!

These guys are next up for a lick of paint and then I think I have to try and fill out my Ravenwing shelf some more - Im feeling brave enough to try their Apothecary again and then probably the other 5 BKs and then potentially some attack bikes and/or the Dark Shroud. So much to paint so little time!

Squad Goneal looks impressive, and will surely lead your Dark Angels to many a success! Oh, and yes, I am a Northerner, though years of living in the South have taken the edges off a little.

The Detolf looks fantastic with all the minis on it, good luck filling those shelves!

Gday - Long time between postings, but I've actually got a fair bit of stuff done.

The DV converted apoth/champion got some paint:

I bashed together another 2 TH/SS termis from DV to get my old command squad from 5th back up to a legal unit:

I did Lazarus and a Primaris LT to give the greenbois some help: Decided my LTs should get a bone helmet stripe (albeit they'll all be helmetless do be extra heroic)

I did the RW apoth for the 4th time. I still dont really like the white (I overbid the drybrushing and it really shows), but I honestly can't face stripping and painting this again.

aaaand finally - A 3 man squad of RW bikers with meltaguns.

The sarge has magnetized fist/sword/nothing options as well as a magnetized combi melta that I made from a bolter and inferno pistol. Reckon it came out OK:

I also amused myself by making a "gangsta" melta dude -

And I'm counting this one as progress too - I got some acrylic cut and some bits off etsy to make extra Detolf shelves. Spread stuff out a bit and added some Orks from my old collection to fill the cabinet out a bit.

With all of this, I'm past the 4,500 painted point milestone, but I still have a massive backlog + I'll undoubtedly be buying loads of the new stuff as well and making my problem worse...

I'm in the midst of painting some eliminators I found on ebay for a decent price. After that I think I'll probably aim to make some more RW - Probs a Talon Master and another 3 man squad at least and then I guess I'll have to get around to their Darkshroud. Either way, definitely something black.

Your Detolf is filling up nicely! The Deathwing are probably my favourite in this latest bunch. I think it’s the blue lenses

Amazing update, so much great stuff, but Gangsta Melta is a favorite
And I got those add-on pieces for Detolf too, should be the same ones. Althought I only have some wooden shelves for now, need to update them to acrylic in the near future.

Thanks lads/ladettes. Its a pretty easy mod to do and the perspex is super cheap - Was maybe $20 total to add the 3 new shelves so well worth.

Since we last met, Dark Angels appear to have been buffed out the wazoo with the new pre-supplement FAQ. Im going to guess there's going to be a fair bit of bandwaggoneering, so Im glad I've got this thread to fall back on to show I was playing the Unforgiven before it was cool (and back when they were pretty bad at actually winning games!)

I've added an Attack Bike & another Talonmaster to the Ravenwing:

Primaris Chappy from Indomitus - Really happy with how this came out. The reclusiam in the Detolf is now pretty massive

Some ebay eliminators:

and an ebay Libby (part of Kill Team Cassius, but de-inquisitioned & de-bloodravened). As a side note, these look unbelieveably tiny next to Primaris Libbys

and finally, given that transports and firstborn are both pretty good apparently, I stripped and Dark Angeled one of my Razorbacks that was initially planned for a Flesh Tearer army. I converted the Lascannon to a Las/Plas in the kit, so had to get some 3rd party Lascannons that came out pretty nice. If anyone has the new SM Codex - Are Las/Plas still a thing? I've still got 3 more of these to get round to at some point

I did another points check, and with this + fixing a few mistakes that I'd made before and I'm at 5,400 total now. Proud of myself for cracking the 5k! Hopefully most of this will be legal in the new Codex.

I've also bought a Primaris Chappy + A new box of intercessors that are getting built and I've still got a massive backlog of old stuff too. I think I actually own past 10k points now and thats in built models, not including loads of kitbash options. I've got an order in for some other stuff too - A "proper" Belial and the Bike Sammael (now it looks like Speeder Sammy is dead) + the DA LT for kitbashing purposes and a couple of boxes of Knights. Don't think I'm getting out any time soon...

Next in line is a Tac squad for that new razorback/rhino and after that who knows. Might do another transport+tac combo or dive into the rest of the massive backlog.

Chat soon!

Thanks brother gobert - I think its basically the "standard" DA scheme - Mechrite Red > Agrax Wash > Evil Suns highlight. Wild rider highlight 2 for "special" models. Super easy, but it comes out well

Happy New Year!!

Long time between drinks, but I have done a bit of painting -

Tac Squad to go in the metal bawks -

Some Plasma ceptors -

Official Belial and Sammy models -

Primaris Bike Chappy -

Phobos Libby -

People seem to be bigging up the Captain on a Bike with Teeth of Terra, so I've bashed one of them together -

and a fully magnetized up squad of intercessors -

I've built up some grav devs + a drop pod and some DW Knights as well, so I'm probably still buying stuff faster than I'm painting. That said though, I re-did all the points of everything I've painted now and I'm just past 6,500 points. Very proud of myself!

I think I'll get the Knights done next, although I'm a bit tempted to do a Storm Raven or maybe some more Razorbacks or potentially even some shooty terminators. Definitely spoilt for choices with a fairly imposing pile of grey plastic staring at me.

So it seems that Dark Angels are good now? I'm now extra glad I started this blog - Not only has it been motivational to actually paint things, I can use it to prove hipster status that I was playing them before they were cool...

I finally painted my Stormraven that survived the warp (and I actually bought a second one to replace the one that didnt survive). As you'd expect, Its fully magentized up so I can fit whatever makes sense on it.

Also got another trio of bikes + attach bike done. Again lots of magnetizing so they can be whatever they want to be.

Melta Mode -

Plasmalicious -

Normal -

Attack Bike -

I've still got 5 of these left around + another attack bike that were going to be a Ravenwing Command Squad when that was a thing. I think I'll get these done up in the not too distant as I really fancy the idea of a full Ravenwing army. I've got a couple of Nephilim kits on the way too when they are back in stock + a Darkshroud/Vengeance so I think I'll focus my attention there for a wee while. That said, Im currently about 50% of the way through some Deathwing Knights, so I'll get those done first as they seem to be very very good based on what I've read about the new book.

More to come - Stay hipster out there!
