Also is it true that millions of guardsmen would die for a small stretch of land in all battles?

Thats some funky math considering that there were only 2400 Elysians on Kastorel Novem(though they lost about 2000 men and the battle, its still not millions)

is Nocturne a Forge World?

No.

It depends on the General and the regiment(s) at hand.
If your talking the Death Korp. Expect to see a similar scenario, but thats due to the fact of thats how they operate.
If its something like the Elysians and such then there will be a different method employed.

Losses are always expected to be high due to the things guardsmen go against and their "armor".

the home of the salamanders as far as im aware is not a "Forge World". i.e mechanicus planet sized factory.
edit: its classified as a "Death World" and Astartes home world.

It has mineral value. otherwise i would not imagine it would be used otherwise.

Nope, it's all just bs.

But that's why I was asking. From my understanding, most people respect what GW is writing in their books, whereas with novels it very often comes down to individual interpretation and bias. So a destroyed tombworld in a GW book might be "more acceptable to the general public", so to say.

First - Necron Tomb in Cain's novel can be NOT destroyed - i don't remember that SM/Inq. used planetbusters which imo is only way to be sure. But it's surely heavely damaged.

Second - Silver Skulls destroyed main Tomb World in Lazar system. And if not for Anrakyr's intervention, most probably would purge all system(5E Necron 'dex).

Now remember that some pieces of fluff change from time to time and are open to interpretation

Salamanders only care about themselves and their people and that Nocturne is a Forge world with its own Imperial Guard and PDF
-Salamanders are among the most altruistic of Chapters and go out of their way to help humanity, other chapters that have a more humane streak would include the Ultramaines and some of their
successors (White Consuls), Space Wolves (maybe more of a sense of justice as to how veterans of the first war for armaggedon were treated)

All Inquisitors only do exterminatus regardless of anything
-If this were true the Imperium would probably have collapsed by now, however it does seem to happen quite a bit in books most likely cause it's more..."cinematic"

Bloodthirsters are near impossible to kill and only primarchs can kill them
-Killed...no...physically destroyed and sent back to the warp for a time? yes

Imperial Guard has never won against Chaos before
-One of the best examples would be the Mordian Iron guard who beat back a Daemon Incursion on their home planet

Imperial Guardsmen only have the life expectency of 6 minutes
-That's alot of dead guardsmen and 10 minute Veterans

Being in the Imperial Guard is shameful
-Why would it be shameful?...PDF (Planetary Defense Force) are sometimes seen as taking the easy way out however

Bloodthirsters have toughness 8
They're tough granted but I don't think they're toughness 8 not that this is fluff

Sisters of battle are considered cannon fodder
-Sisters are the elite of the ecclesiarchy or however you spell it, guardsmen are fodder for the most part

All members of Ordo Xenos hate Eldar, even that guy who was invited by the Harlequins to spend the rest of life in the Black Library
-Not necessarily but Eldar ARE the enemy after all

Its impossible for non space marine forces to win against Chaos at all
-see again Mordian Iron guard, there are other examples

Stormtroopers are genetically modified super soldiers
-THat's what Space Marines are for

here are some more:
Inquisitors don't bother to find out anything and use exterminatus freely; even if they kind of think there is a possibility of a taint
-Already addressed but to add another tidbit Inquisitors ARE free to use exterminatus at their discretion but most are sane enough not to be free wheeling about it

Imperial Officials aren't cared for
-Some are, some aren't, Commissars are generally mistrusted for good reason as some are Emperor Botherers and tend to shoot first and ask questions later- Ciaphas Cain rules though
Terminator Armor is the only thing in the Galaxy that can provide a 2+ save(not counting Orks)
-Terminator Armour is among the best personal armour in the Universe....tell that to a genestealer though

so that's my personal take on things...don't take everything at face value and look up stuff on your own as well knowlege is power...then the Inquisition drops a bomb on you = P

Looking forward to the opening of 40k: The Musical

List of TV show ideas: Late night with Kharne, Farseer and friends, Sigvald in Space

I think this thread has served its purpose now.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.
