For a little background, I played marines and tyranids a lot during 4th edition, then 5th edition came out and I went away to college--the two together caused me to completely stop playing until very recently. Around December I started feeling the urge to collect an ork army. Played less than a handful of games in 5th, never learned the rules, then 6th came out, and I have yet to play a game in 6th. I have been doing a bit of research, but I'd like to know if I'm still way off from being effective.

So here's the list:

HQ

Warphead 85

Big Mek
-kff, grot oilers(x2) 95

Troops

Dread
-4ccw, grot riggers 110

Shootas (x20)
Nob-pk, bp, eavy armor
-big shootas(x2) 181

Trukk boys
-boys(x11)
-Nob-pk,bp
-trukk-red 152

Grots (x11)
-Runtherd 46
(go in wagon)

Shootas(x12) 72
(go with warpead)

Heavy

looted wagon
-'ard case, big shoota(x2) 55

looted wagon
-boomgun, grots, big shoota, ard, armor 135

Kanz (x3)
-tl rokkits, grots 165

Fast Attack

Dakkajet
-tlss, red, ace 135
Dakkajet
-tlss, red, ace 135

Buggies (x3)
-tl rokkits, red, grots 135

All together comes out to 1501 points

Grots would be riding in first looted wagon to sit on an objective. Mek would be following the dread/kanz, though thinking about it now I should prolly squeeze some points out for a trukk or something to protect him. I suppose the idea is to just have a crapload of vehicles, mostly because that's all that I've painted so far. And also to have just about everything running up the board. Are there any serious problems with this list? Will I be getting chewed up even in a semi-competitive/friendly environment because vehicles are easier to kill now?

I'm in the process of building 5 meganobz right now, will they help out if I expanded to a 1750 list?

I also have a question, do grot riggers restore structure points on a successful repair just as a mek would? If they don't then I'll probably be removing them from the vehicles.

The Army is loosely soviet themed, which is where the looted wagons come in. (A BMP for the grots and a T-72 for the boomwagon)

Thanks for any help

Drop the Red paint jobs. I think that'll get you 20 points.

I have run a full Kan Wall list and it just didn't work well for me in 5th. Now that KKs have only 2 Hull Points, mine have been shelved.

So I think that's 205 points to spend on either Heavy Support or Elites.

Most ork players (me included) feel that Lootas are pretty nice and worth their points.

Thanks for the advice man

Damn, that's a shame that kanz suck now I love those models.

I agree about the lootas and was going to include them but I figured that the two dakkajets sufficiently filled that slot for anti-infantry/light vehicles

Drop red paint jobs on all vehicles?

So for around 200 points I'm thinking I could get either

1) Those meganobz in there with one combi-flame and one combi-rokkit
2) Some burnas in a bare bones looted wagon/trukk
3) Another trukk full of boys
4) A seriously riced out battlewagon to throw the mek in, though I don't really know what they would do after that

Grots do the same things as orks but orks do it better if you drop them then you have got a few more points to spend on a few more upgrades

Automatically Appended Next Post:
More Boyz looks like a good idea for this list replace the grots with ten Boyz nob with pk and bosspole chucked in the looted wagon, with the dread and red paint jobs gone you can afford them

Yeah; if you're taking looted wagons you're better off with them being bare bone boomwagons. Also, if you're using different speeds in this army; Orks require you to have more numbers than the enemy. Find a good speed in which the core of your army travels up to the enemy to smash face and focus on that speed. If you footslog, don't take trukks. If you're in vehicles; take a mob or two in battlewagons with a Looted wagon rounding out the Heavy Support with the rest in trukks (have trukks be slugga, battlewagons be shoota).

If your going for a themed army more power to ya amd make it the way you want it.
If you want to make it competitive and keep a somewhat tank like army build drop all looted wagons, drop warphead, drop gretchin/grots/runtherds, drop buggies, drop kans, and drop the truck. For orks to be.competitive they have to spam several of the same things and as an added plus all competitive ork buildcan be themed and "fluffy".

If you can get at least 3 battlewagons with deff rolla upgrades and fit 20 man ork boy units with PK nob upgrade. Also fit as many lootas into the list as you can and put another big mek with KFF into the list. And always put red paint on vehicles.

Do the number crunching and post a list that you like.
