Alright, one of the guys here has an imperial guard army. I was at his house the other day and he shows me this strategy from fifth ed that made me shank a brick. (I now have an unfortunately broken knife.)
He told me that using two squads, he can get a free cover save in open terrain.
Example xxxx-----------x=squad one units
------------0000---------- 0=squad two units
---------00xxxx00
He told me that so long as half his unit is covered by another unit, he gets a cover fething save. I would like to know if this will be a problem in sixth ed. Especially considering that this is a huge problem for
an army that relies on fire superiority designed to take down armour saves.

First off, in fifth edition that was FAQed away. Second of all, cover is granted in 6th on a model-by-model basis. So it doesn't work in either editions.

Yeah, we're in 6th ed now. You should use 6th ed rules while playing 6th ed games. 6th ed changed how cover works.

Looks like someone needs to take a trip to his rulebook.

I'd like to face that set up. Focus fire ftw.

This is what I was asking, if sixth ed would be a problem. I know it's sixth ed but my friends don't have there new codexes yet. Also, we are not paying one hundred dollars for a book, we might pool,
but not one of us will fork over the cash alone.

Use focus fire, and remember that cover is based model by model, not as per the unit as a whole.

New starter set comes out in 12 days, have two players go in on that and use the rulebook from it, or have everyone eBay their own.

However, if it was model by model, could you use a staggered kind of thing like that to give cover to special weapons and sergeants?

That kind of thing.

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

Briefly, yes. Ironically, it makes the interweaving thing actually a tiny bit useful, rather than not at all.

Still, this is a pretty small benefit compared to the shenanigans you could do pre-FAQ in 5th ed.
