Hey guys,

I'm currently saving up for a gaming headset however I've found two that take my fancy but I'm not sure which is better.
They are the Razer Carcharias and the Plantronics Gamecom 780.

Please help and thank you.

I have the second, they seem pretty decent and are one of the more comfortable sets I've had.

I'm thinking those will be the one i get, How does the sound compare to a set using the audio jack? Do you think it's worth the cash spent? Sorry I've i seem to be unloading a heap of questions but i want to make sure my money is well, well spent.

Cheers,

I used to have a pair of Turtle Beach p11's i used to love for pc games, because you could change the game volume and chat volume on the headset, so you can lower the volume on the game if you are talking to friends, or turn off the chat volume if you have annoying teammates.
of course then my dog ripped out the wires...

Turns out as well mine are the 380s instead.
They were around $90 from JB HI-FI so could be an alternative. Might be worth looking there anyway, they'll probably be cheaper. Looked it up they're $1 more.

@Farrow, would those better better than the 780's?

@n0t_u, Thank you for all the help

As for whether the turtle beaches would be better, they are like 80$ so a bit cheaper then everything else on this list, although they have a weird issue with the way they are wired.

If nothing is happening at the moment in the game, you will be able to hear static coming through the headset due to the way the wiring was done on the set. you won't hear during portions of the game where there is noise, just silence of very soft sound.

As for other gaming accessories, a good mouse and keyboard are good. razer makes a lot of good keyboards and mouses for gamers, so you could probably pick up a couple of those.

+1 for the Turtle Beach vote...I use a pair of X11's, play a couple hours a day, and have had no issues in over a year.

Other gaming accessories to use... Razer makes very nice MMO mice (the Naga is fantastic for the price). I don't use a gaming keyboard, but if you map a lot of stuff/macro, it could easily be worth the expenditure

Let's give this another shot...

Everywhere I'm not supposed to be.

I just picked up a pair of Turtle Beach X12's for PC use. Super comfy, and the sound quality isn't too shabby either. I thoroughly enjoy the inline game/chat volume, bass level, and mute switch all hanging near by.

As for other gaming accesories, I have a Razer Death Adder (mouse) and Razer Lycosa (keyboard). The Death Adder is a lovely mouse. Five buttons, and adjustable sensitivity. They keyboard isn't super special, just backlit keys and a mirrored finish. Can also download software from Razer to program macros and set-up different profiles in order to disable certain keys and load up multiple macros bound to the same key.

If you need me, I'll be busy wiping the layers of dust off my dice.

I got a set of turtle beaches the other day, and can safely say they're worth the money,
Especially since I manage to get a set of DP11's for almost half price and can use them for Pc and PS3!

Both suggestion in the op seem like 100$ too expensive.

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.

If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in.

Ive had the Razer Carcharias' for nearly 2 years and they have served me well. Good sound/microphone quality and you sometimes forget that they're on your head, they're that comfortable.

So either Razer or Turtle Beach, while a Razer black widow and Razer death adder black edition?

I had a set of Creative fatalities for a long time. They are somewhat comfortable but I found that USB headsets are just annoying. Its just the way they interface with the computer and software. I replaced them with Sennheiser pc350s and the difference is extreme. This set is comfortable, the sound is crystal clear all the time, no matter how loud you set it, there is no distortion at all. The base is strong when you want it to be but not so oppressive that it overwhelms the other features of the sound. They are about 150$ on amazon right now, and I guarantee they will perform better than the other headsets posted on here.

Also - Do not bother with the black edition razer keyboard. It is literally a keyboard that is completely black. They just take the standard keyboard, and disable the lights that illuminate the keys. Problem is, since the keys are black, and the letters on the keys are black...you cant see what the hell the keys are. My buddy got one, and he is pretty pissed about it.

I have the razer Imperator mouse and it is fantastic. Not too expensive either, but it's DPI rating is very high, making your movement across the screen super smooth. Mine is rated at 6400DPI. There arent a whole lot of mice that boast that level of detail and have such a solid feel to the buttons and mouse wheel. The deathadder is nice, but suffers by having significantly lower DPI ratings. It also doesnt feel as solid as the imperator. I would spend the extra 15 - 20$ and get the higher end mouse. I find that the imperator is also much more comfortable, maybe it just fits my big hands better.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
From what I hear, the mechanical keyboards that razer makes are good for gaming. The keyclicks are much louder than standard keyboards, but, they are more durable and more solid. Alot of gamers say that the feel of a mechanical keyboard makes it easier to know that the keyclick registered.

Sounds about right. the razer will probably be more expensive, but you'll get better sound out of it.
the p11 will be cheaper and have great sound quality and great audio options, but there will be a faint "hissing" that can be heard when there is no noise.

Turtle Beach X12 - $76

Plantronics 780 - $85

Razer Carcharias - $89

Turtle Beach PX21 - $99

Just as a price reference. I buy all my stuff from there, seems to have the best prices in Aus.

It looks like it puts out a good range of sound, but doesn't have a microphone which can be important in some online games.

Microphone isn't as important as the headset as of yet, I very rarely play online, i usually play LAN with friends in the same room so we just call out to each other. Sorry for the few and far between replies, I've been busy with essays for school.

that makes sense, although a microphone is always good if you need one.

Get a headphone and seperate mic. Even you go for the same total price the quality will be way better. I'd suggest avoiding headsets to be honest.

That said, I've got a 70euro mic and 80 euro headphone. XD

Well the thing i like about headsets is that there is much less background noise on them in my experience, as it is directly in front of your face.
