With an STC Engine they could conquer the universe with the power of mass produced super advanced tech rather than Psyker and warp power.

Even the smallest STC print is still a boon for the Imperium.

Say they found a STC for a self powering tractor, at first that seems minor, but imagine the uses if the applied properly. Vehicles that don't need refueling, easy transport, Imperium gets a bonus to logistics support.

And bam there you have it.

Every STC print has a point and purpose.

Ya, if that were the case there would be no Warhammer 40k universe. The amazingly advanced, technologically dominant, human civilization that spanned the galaxy was broken asunder by, not only civil war, but Warp Storms.

I think if discovered it would cause a massive schism between Mars and Terra. Their relationship is out of mutual gain however they both have strong religious beliefs that seperate them, the ad mech would not be so willing to share the one thing that could finally liberate them from the imperium. Likewise the imperium wouldnt want to trust it's salvation to the Martian Priesthood. Civil war would erupt and it would be like the heresy all over again. The imperium would have numbers but would lose the support of thousands of forge worlds and it the martians would outgun them. The titan legions would mostly go with Mars, even a fair few chapters of Marines would possibly support the ad mech out of strong ties and a strong belief in machine purity over flesh, like the Iron Hands. The greatest gift from the age of technology would be the end of the human race in my opinion.

The imperium would most likely just build bigger and badder weapons with a complete STC to kill more things(including themselves) with.

Yes, but it would probably have to be for a new Golden Throne or something.

As a discussion grows in length, the probability of a comparison to Matt Ward or Gray Knights approaches one.

I think it would help the Imperium, but it wouldn't win the day by itself. Remember the humans did have it at one point, but weren't able to wipe out the Orks or the Eldar then, and now they are Tyranids, Necron, etc to deal with. It may make the darkness less dark, and the Tau would be gone for sure.

Well, aside from the small inconvenience of the astronomican shutting off when he dies. Which would make all warp travel pretty much useless.

That might put a damper on the resurgent Imperium. You know, not being able to venture out of the sloar system, not being able to communicate over long distances, the sort of thingsyou need to coordinate a galaxy wide war.

A functioning STC would most likely give them the ability to fix the Golden Throne. Bam, problem solved.

Not necessarily. Even if we assume that the Golden Throne is an STC design, an STC engine allows you to create a piece of technology, it grants you no knowledge about the underlying principles of that technology.

Yeah, but a functioning STC will likely have parts that can fix it.

They simply tell the machine "We need a part that does X" and the machine will give them the diagram. Sure, its not the best way to go about it but it would certaintly help. It definitly couldn't hurt.

Or better yet, a miracle machine that will fix the old man's body and wake him up at the same time.

I should have left him there. He had served his purpose. He owed me nothing - yet he gave himself to me willingly. Why? I know not. He is nothing more than a pathetic human. An inferior race. A mon-keigh. But still I broke off my wings so that I might carry him easier. I took him from that place, into the snowstorm where our tracks will not be found. He is heavy. And he is dying. And he is slowing me down. But I will save him. Why? I know not. He is still warm. I can feel his blood ebbing across me. For every beat of his heart, another, slight spill of heat. The heat blows away on the winter wind. His blood is still warm. But fading. And I have spilled scarlet myself. The snow laps greedily at our footsteps and our lifeblood, covering them without a trace as we fade away.

You know, its always been kind of a plot hole. The Emperor is fully capable of talking to people. So why he hasn't gone and told the Techpriests maintaining his Throne how to fix it?

"Hey, Techpriest Bob!"

Not even the Inquisition gets into the Throne room. Only the Tech priests that maintain the Throne and the Custodes get inside.

The Emperor doesn't want the Golden Throne to be fixed. He wants to die and be resurrected as the Star Child.

It's not having the parts that's the problem, it's knowing how it works in the first place so they know what parts need to be fixed. The Golden Throne was made specifically by the Emperor, it's a completely uniquely hand crafted peice of technology. So any chance of fixing it without him is pretty much nil.

I thought the main way the Emperor communicated with people was through the imperial tarot, which is hardly an efficient way to communicate mechanical designs with.

Yes, but he is perfectly capable of direct communication. The Tarot is whats used be everyone around the galaxy and is fairly passive on his part. Nothing prevents him from talking to one specific person on Terra or Mars(being relativly close to him)

Didn't the eldars whole fall thing turn the warp into a chaotic highway as opposed to a calm sea.

The Fall caused large Warp Storms, which has since calmed. From what we can guess Humanitys super advanced tech allowed them to navigate the warp well with out the Astrinomicon.

I can't imagine an army where every guardsmen and marine would have power armour, a plasma gun/meltagun(or a combi of both with a stormbolter) 14 14 14 Leman Russes, super heavy landraiders

imagine the madness!

Probably not, thy might get the blue prints to build the new super warship or uber landraider but they woul;dn't know the "rituals" that make it do things.

I always got the impresion that imperial technology specificly the bigger stuff (like warships and titans) probably still has the capabilities that the current users know nothing about, like mega cannons built into a ship at contruction but they dont know what the big open space near the engine room is for so they just use it to store loo roll and spare servitors, or faster than light comms gear that happens to be a good place to store the skull polishing kit.

and the preiests of mars book kinda suports that view as well

so would a full STC system help, yeah for starters they could build plasmas that didnt over heat becasue they miss copied a microprocessor 20000 years ago, and terminator armor would be more available. But and its a big but, anything completely new that requires an understanding of the science to operate without blowing up oh, say the sol system, like the level of tech needed to save the imperium would be a big paper weight or would destroy the wrong thing.

Having said that the same book also has tech priests that are actualy aware of the principles of reaserch so its swings and roundabouts

Would the technology from an STC really give them an upper hand over the other zenos though? I never thought that the Imperium were more advanced than the Necrons and Eldar even during the dark age of technology.

Can the Emperor really communicate with people as easily as has been suggested here? When has this happened?

Not the Imperium, no. But Golden Age of Technology Mankind probably was influenced by the Void Dragon, imprisoned on Mars in ancient times by the Emperor (he wasn't the Emperor then, and no explanation is given as to how he got to Mars), explaining their insanely advanced level of technology - of all the C'tan (Wardian gak notwithstanding) the Void Dragon is the most feared C'tan by the Eldar simply because of its absolute technological dominance.

Old time Eldar,Necrons? Who can know - they had pretty advanced stuff and numbers.
But CURRENT Eldar, Orcs and Tyranids are inferior to DAoT technology. As shown in Priests of Mars, it took ONE shot of one weapon of DAoT ship to mission-kill eldar cruiser (with no real intent to finish it off).
And other mentioned stuff is on par with things we know about OLD'crons (though newcrons have timetravel).
Think RF's or FR's ingenious miltech compared to USA's - nobody doubts whose stuff is more sophisticated, but deciding factor would be in numbers and logistics. And all others are behind the overall tech curve...

Without passion we'd be truly dead.
