With the vehicle changes, extra armor became more useless than it already was for the price. Here's my idea to improve it with the recent changes:

Extra Armor: Any abilities that would normally be always resolved against side armor count as hitting front armor (such as barrage). Any abilities that would normally be always resolved against rear armor (such as assaults) are instead resolved against the side facing. Due to the additional weight of the armor, the vehicle can no longer move flat-out (with the exception of skimmers).

This would make vehicles that have different front, side, and rear values much more effective. 15 points is a reasonable premium for a situational improvement, in my opinion.

Against unsaved Glancing or Penetrating hits, a hullpoint is not lost on a roll of 5+ (though any other effect from the hit still applies).

Pit your chainsword against my chainsw- wait that's Heresy.

How about this (inspired by Necron Quantum Shielding):

Extra Armour: 20 pts.

Vehicles with extra armour count the armour value of each facing as one higher than the value listed in the codex entry (with a maximum value of 14). However, this bonus is lost as soon as the vehicle suffers a penetrating hit, as the force of the weapon hit is powerful enough to dislodge or otherwise negate the effects of the armour.

But how? With 'Hard to Hit', the usual tools (missile launchers, lascannons) to do it are out of action. So you either use the low-S weapons (Autocannons) that could either just glance the Vendetta or need 6+/6+ to destroy it outright. So thats why .

That would be way to good. Leman russes would have F 14 S 14 R 12

Twuld be over powered

Weapon spam and ground defences. TBH I play IG so I have it easy, I could use ground emplacements, Hydras, or heavy weapon squads w/ BiD (3-9 twin-linked lascannons is easy). Honestly the easiest way is probably to use other flyers. Tau could try to use battlesuits or broadsides, twin-linked missile pods can do quite a bit, and although it is a lot more expensive, 3 broadsides will average at least one hit which will pen on a 3+ and have a 50/50 shot of killing the vehicle outright.

Also, you can penetrate a vendetta with autocannons, pen on 6s, glance on 5s.

^ Thats true, but if you want some real results (and not the grace of the Dice God) then you must go to something like Autocannons. And 6+ pen and 6+ destroy is anything but a sure kill ... I know it, since I usually play with 3 Vendettas, and I only managed to lost them for Death Rays (not counting the BSA battle where I get raped by STAR missile launchers, but that's a different story).

And Extra Armour is a standard wargear for Vendettas, so +1 HP for free... I would take it!
