Hi! Stupid Quick Question:
So apparently ADF is not tall enough to give 4+ cover to, let's say, Warwalker or Wraithlord.
How about ADF on top of ADF. Not two lines, but a single one. Half length, double the height. Literally putting one section on top of another.
Does the rules disallow this?
As a bonus that would you say as a fellow gamer?
Would you allow it? Too cheesy? Would scratch built one that is 20% higher but with the same length OK?
How would one acquire ADF suited for something other than IoM with their Metal Bawkses and regular height troops with "spirit of the game" and rules in mind. Can it be done or just accept that some things should stay without ADF cover?

Why wouldn't the ADF be tall enough for a WW or WL? Only need 25% coverage.
Also, you can't stack them as they must be in BASE contact.
Each section of Aegis defence line must be placed in base contact with at least one other section.
I also would not allow a scratchbuilt one that is significantly different in size to a normal one, the same as I wouldn't want a player to make a bigger rhino just to hide his dreadnoughts behind. Automatically Appended Next Post: edit: Oh, actually, if you set the bottom one upside down, you could probably do it, since the bases would be in contact.

That does not make it impossible though.

25% of the model, not 25% of the height. Wraithlords and Warwalkers have very long skinny legs. The portion of the legs that can be covered by the height of an Aegis barrier would be hard press to be called 25% of the model.
On the orginal question it's clever, but worth risking a TFG label from players? It was clearly not intended to be played that way from a modeling point of view.

Why are you trying to break the game like this? I would only let this go if you let me use my land raider on the sprues. Hey, the rules don't say properly assembled, right?

It would appear that you COULD put two parts together, complying with Base to Base, and then stack two more pieces on top of them keeping the base to base requirement. Aegis defence lines are pieces of terrain and do not have "BASES" so theoretically they could be place on top of each other the same way that a ruin could be placed in a cops of trees??
I also notice that it does NOT quantify the dimentions of the defence line. If one were to Model their own defence lines (I made a set from egg cartons) what dimentions should they use? And wouldnt it be reasonable that different species would have various heights and length depending on their particular "NEEDS" of protection? An ork would have a slightly higher defence line than say a ratling!

I think we're going with the idea of the 'base' of the terrain piece, since it is clear that hte rulebook thinks that an aegis has a base.
Also, from a game advantage standpoint, I would keep the measurements the same as the original.

Is that really breaking the game? Nope, not as long as the rules are still followed. It's not like its going to be the Most OP'd broken thing in the world. You can always not play against them anyways. Kinda like trying to get a game with an unbuild LR on the sprews ... lol
Anyways I'd say as long as rules are met when setting them up, it's 100% allowable.

Why bother with an ADL? Just make a battlefield debris wall that is tall enough to cover tall models. Doesn't cost any point and can be placed as part of the terrain setup.

Because then we wouldnt have anything to argue over!!!
Also without actually buying the Aegis defence line how can you get the exact measurements?? And EXACT measurments have never been an issue with any other scratch built item. For 50 pts if you want to make a solid wall that blocks LOS both ways go right ahead. You will be loosing more area coverage to gain height and will be blocking LOS to the rest of your short models. But then again I guess building a wall to hide your Barrage weapons behind might be a bit beardy ya still get no cover from the sides or rear!.

There are numerous custom ADL's out there now. You can just Google it and see a few. Quite a few are for other races too.

Wow wow wow cool your jets. I think I need to add something to the topic here.
Nobody here is trying to brake anything or be TFG. Especially how half of my OP is exactly about this kind of behaviour. Please don't instantly assume the worst in others.
I am however trying to find out if it is possible to have terrain suited for MY army and not have everything Imperium. All within rules and/or just considering other people.
That's why I'm asking. To see how people feel about this idea.

Without getting into depth, I can see how an argument can be made that you cannot stack an ADL. However, personally I would not be opposed to playing a player that had a custom ADL for their army IF their ADL covered the same amount of space. (So if your ADL is taller, it must be not as wide. aka... the same number of square inches...)

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Good time to learn how to make press molds. It's not like you'll need more than half a body, and they don't have to be perfect in any way.
So go to your LFGS and buy up all that green stuff!
