I was wondering what people are thinking about what's next. A lot of rumours point to CSMs in Sept, DAs in Oct/Nov.

Hopefully we're then going to get Tau then Eldar (hooray! )

What do you guys think?

I'm hoping/praying for Chaos Marines myself since I've got an army of 'em on hold for the time being until the new 'dex hits, and a tonne of Daemons to go along with them!

However, based on the WD evidence AND the historical trend of a new edition always heralding a new Loyalist marine codex, I'm expecting DA's to come first.

As for the next codicies after the CSM's and DA's... Rumors look to be shaping up like;
- Chaos Daemons & Daemons of Chaos dual release.
- Tau
- Eldar
- Templars?
- Orks?

Rumor is that Chaos will go up for pre-order on the 22nd for an end of September release, or go up on the 14th for a mid-September release.

http://natfka.blogspot.com.au/2012/08/release-rumors-breaking-mold.html
There is a lot of confusion lately on what is going to be released and when. Even though most rumor sources around the web are still saying September, there is a lot of disbelief, so hopefully this will shed a little light on the subject, as well as put forth a possible date for the next codex release.

Please remember that these are rumors.

______ hasn't changed his statement that Pre orders are up on the 15th for release on the 22nd along with the white dwarf about them.

I could imagine the WD and Pre Orders to both be the 22nd but he was very specific and said that they're "breaking the mold" to fit in DAngels.

I'm thinking Chaos (sept '12), Dark Angels (oct/nov '12), Tau (jan '13), Eldar (spring '13), Orks (Summer '13) ...
I don't know after that. :/ Maybe Templars, as the need a [u/]serious[/u] boost.
I guess we'll just have to wait.

As another Eldar player having a very old dex and dusty units seems frustrating. Codex writer Phil Kelly hasn't been able to write anything because apparently all his attention has been on writing a new Eldar dex. These are just rumours but with Dark Vengeance, it's Chaos first and then the might of the seers will storm the universe. The Eldar are back, and this time, it's personal...

It is frustrating for us Eldar players, but that doesn't stop me from getting excited about the upcoming Chaos. At least we still have King Eldrad.

BT must be coming soon, along with DA they are the oldest ones I believe. Certainly feels like it.

IIRC, there was word out of games day they had multiple codices ready to go (it was either 3 or 6). Eldar wasn't one of them - Phil Kelly said they haven't even started working on the new Eldar codex.

It would be great if it was C:CSM, but it will probably be C:Green Marines That Are Exactly The Same As Other Colours Of Marines.

Well, I remember that after the release of a new edition, GW brought the codex of a loyal army next.
So Dark Angels should be next.

I think Chaos Marines for Games Day UK was (at least once) the plan. If the rumour-mongers are to be believed, it seems GW themselves aren't so sure at the moment where it'll go http://natfka.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/chaos-space-marines-and-games-day-uk.html

Too much focus for 40k right now. I say Warriors of Chaos for WFB, then CSM. A back to back Chaos theme just in time for Halloween.

Indeed, too much 40k releases these days. I agree that CSM and WoC should be released successively.

The new starter set provides a great opportunity to start DA or CSM. I figured that many models/units from the starter set are offered at ebay and sold for little money.

I counted the points and with two Dark Vengeance I can get 1400 points of DA.

If only they would put DA on the cover of the new C:SM. If they have a page each for the various 'special' chapters, it'll save the need for lots of updated codexes.
If they hold some special units back, they can release them as new codexes later on.

I find this a little entertaining, since the last codex for 40k that was released was Necrons back in November of 2011. We are in month 9 of 40ks 25th year anniversary and all that has released for 40k is a single model, and a new edition of the game, while fantasy have gotten both Vampire Counts and Empire. Just saying...

All units listed without a FOC.

IE:

Tactical Squad, Assault Squad, Devastator Squad, Bikes, Attack Bikes, Speeders (and all hull variants), Rhinos (and all hull variants), Raiders (and all hull variants),

Terminators, Captains, Chaplains, Librarians, Techmarines, Apothocaries, Veteran Squads, Dreadnoughts (and all hull variants).

That covers almost everything that any chapter can take.

Now the codex could be written with each of these units under a "standard codex units" entry.

The middle of the codex can then cover the Spacial Characters.

The codex special rules could include "Chapter Traits" which basically states which chapters use which units and where in the FOC they are delegated.

Under each listing there can be a list of "non-codex" units available to the army.

For example the Baal Predator would be in the main listing of units. However the only "Chapter Traits" system that allows it is the Blood Angels.

Alternatively the Death Company and the DC Dread, Sanguinary Guard, Furioso ect. would be in a breif entry under the "Blood Angels" heading.

I wouldn't want to see something like "You must take Dante to play Blood Angels" but rather something like "You must use the 'Blood Angel Chapter Traits' to include Dante/Baal Pred ect".

Clearly I'm in the "Space Marines need one book" camp. But let's face it, there isn't enough difference between codexs to merit a codex for each chapter (excluding GK who imho don't need a true codex).

Sure great idea... let's get rid of GW's best sellers and roll them all into a 500pg tome that no one will want to pay through the nose for.
Like it or not, all those Space Marine codices are basically letting GW print money. Why the hell should they give that up?!

Sure it sucks that all us non-Space Marines have to wait longer for updates. But our updates tend to be flashier and we get more stuffs with them, plus the promise of later waves of models.
On the other hand, those multiple Loyalist marine releases get a couple new plastic kits and then told, "well, fill the blank spots in with the main model line" Look at what Dark Eldar & Necrons have had since their new books! Hell, even Orks have had waaaaaaaay more releases with their current codex than the likes of SW's/BA's/GK's/Vanilla!

So basically, suck-it-up-buttercup, and know that while you might be waiting longer, you get a bigger reward for your troubles than any silly smurf player ever gets!
