I'm just getting bored of the way I change armies every 5 seconds in fantasy and 40k, so I thought, why not try out lord of the rings. The problem is, what the hell do I do?! It seems to me as though the armies are split up into groups, which are then split up into more groups. It just looks out of place. So what does everything on the website actually mean? Also, what are the armies like when it comes to things like painting, playing, and how expensive they are? Also, I heard that the game was very simple to play compared to 40k and fantasy, is this true? Thanks, and happy wargaming!

Thou shalt not refer to the Adeptus Soritas as "Bolter Biatches" nor shalt thou go anywhere near our sisters during the time of the "Red Rage," lest thou wishes to be the first human to enter orbit without the aid of a shuttle.

Hello and welcome to LOTR.

The armies are divided into good and bad, within those two groups you will find every playebal army in the game. The army organization is built up around war bands of 12 warriors + a captain who leads them. The rules are very easy to learn and the game is rather fast paced in my humble opinion.
When it comes to painting and such you have quite an selection, Gondor and Easterlings alongside Dwarfs are the most beginner friendly but all the armies are well made. And a blast to paint. LOTR is a very affordable game really, since you don't need vast armies unlike 40k & fantasy.
Feel free to PM for more detailed information on Evil armies since those are what I play

thanks for the help, but I still don't get how the GW layout works.

They sell 5 'codex' (2 of them are for good people and 3 of them are for bad people)

Both the good and the bad forces are broken up by factions.
(for example there is Rohan/Gondor/Dwarves for the good armies)
(for the bad armies some examples are Mordor/Easterlings/Isengard)

You can ally any good factions with each other and any bad armies with each other.

The setup for an army is made up of Warbands (1 warband = 1 hero + up to 12 warriors)

Other than these rules the game is simple. The order is move, shoot and fight. Priority is determined every turn and is kept through those 3 phases.

The models are cheaper than 40k, I don't know about fantasy.

Lord of the Rings are definately the least played and I believe that is just because the other 2 modes of gaming have been around for a very long time. So it is great that you have an interest feel free to ask any questions. If you are interested in rangers or elves there are 2 great threads going on right now.

Thank you so much for the help! Just one more question, can you only have one warband per army? Also, how many armies can you have teaming up?

Thou shalt not refer to the Adeptus Soritas as "Bolter Biatches" nor shalt thou go anywhere near our sisters during the time of the "Red Rage," lest thou wishes to be the first human to enter orbit without the aid of a shuttle.

Staying on target.....

Nope you can have as many warbands as your points allow and you don't have to max them before you make a new one

All good can ally with all good and the same for evil. Be aware though that bow limits apply to each good army separately and that you can't merge different factions into the same warband (i.e. Aragorn can't lead rohan)
