i figured my steampunk army wouldnt be complete without at a little lovecraft, so i decided on using squidmen to fill in this void. the white is supposed to be like some sort of individual tribal warpaint.

LOL... are those heads form the wargames factory set? the great coat ones?

and for these it seems you beheaded steel legion minis and i see even vostroyans!? you are a very brave man!

my only nitpick would be about those eyes... i bet a wash could fix this tho... but all in all... very cool... and you gotta love lovecraft... it´s practically the law!

I'm in a constant battle with my painting skills on eyeballs. They vex me so......

was always conteplating this by the way... victoria miniatures is offering some squid heads too now... and i saw some "ocutists" from black cat bases too that might fit your theme...

and for now i ignor eyes on my minis as my hand eye coordination is rather crappy^^ tho a friend of mine...J-Paint has posted his tut on painting eyes which i think is pretty great!

I would imagine you can get picture-hanging wire somewhere like Lowes or Home Depot without having to buy the whole kit. Hell, Walmart probably sells it.

Drill those barrels!

im starting into drilling my barrels.... all the models are metal, so im using my dremel... any suggestions on tap/bit sizes ive been using an engraving bit for most of the work, but its way to big for normal barrels. I used it on the cannon on the mariner warjack (as a size reference). I order some smaller engraving bits, but im open to suggestions...


and as long as we're at suggestions: Im staring work on stempunking up a baneblade.... ideas? right now im thinking gears, a big wooden barrel assembly (like a boiler tank of sorts) gauges, and tesla coils.... anyone got any insight to add? maybe turrent mods or something like that? Ill be using a tread pattern similar to the ones my russes...

You are going to want a pin vise. If you use a dremel or drill, the drill bit tends to travel off to one side. This destroys the blades on the drill bit.

very good looking... what i would do is add liquide green stuff... that will create lots of random shapes surfaces and will give you that energy sparkling look you are going for... the baneblade you talked earlier before... well i am very eager to see your work on this... i think the stuff you mentioned is already highly promising as is!!! dunno what to add before you show pics...

I may well consider pinching this idea for my own Valk.... may I ask how you got the electricity thing going on there? Is it just wire bent at cool angles?

Yeah, it's just colored wire. I used some needle nose pliers to make the sharp angles, and then I took two lengths of the bent wire and wrapped them around each other. I think that's probably the most important part look wise. Gives it a better appearance than when I tried to just put two pieces on top of each other.

I like the liqued green stuff Idea. Might be running with that...
