What do they count as in 6th ed? power sword, power axe or power maul?

as there hasn't been an update to the renegade list yet

The Imperium of Man is able to traverse the Warp with difficulty when their Emperor concentrates from his golden life support machine and lights the way. Unfortunately, because the Emperor has the attention span of the average 5-year-old Pokemon fanboy, this means that many an unfortunate Imperial ship has had the WTF WHERE'D THE LIGHTS GO experience, which in the Warp is invariably fatal.

If it doesn't say then you get to choose.

Actually, its if it doesn't say, you use whatever it looks like the model has. If it looks like a sword, you can't use the rules for an axe or maul.

So I can point to the page where it lists all the las weapons, and decide that my guardsmen deserve them?

Where does it say you can choose whatever power weapon you like?

But Guardsmen are specifically armed with lasguns and laspistols rather than "las weapons". These have dedicated stat lines. Almost every army at this point can purchase "power weapons" and this allows you to choose from the categories provided as indicated in DathReaper's post. I would tend to agree that the model should have the category of power weapon shown on the model, but as the OP didn't indicate what the model comes with I chose the simplest answer.

Page 61 only tells you to look at the weapon to determine what kind of weapon it is. It will be either the army list entry of FAQ that will allow you to choose what kind of power weapon a model has.

Not this again...

The common consensus seems to be that you can model whichever type of power weapon you'd like on the model, provided you've made it obvious enough to someone looking at it. This being said, with Ogryn, I would see them using a Maul or Axe as the other types seem a bit too technical for the kind of smashy goodness they prefer.

You may run into a few people who make a stink about how you "modeled your Ogryn for an advantage," but such people are usually best ignored.

look at your model(that you may or may not have modeled with a certain type)

If its a halberd, axe, or glaive, its an Axe.

If its a bladed weapon, its a sword.

If its a large blunt instrument such as a staff, club, or mace, its a Maul.

And if it is a long pointy stick it is a lance. Why does everyone ignore the Lance? Lances are power weapons too.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

the consensus is pretty much what I'd assumed.

the reason why I'd asked is that certain power weapons have different points costs as laid down in FAQs. So was just unsure if i needed to take that into consideration.

A power weapon (sword, axe, lance, maul) has one cost in every codex I know of. Not sure what you are referring to.

Yeah, there are no power weapons that are listed seperatly right now(other than Unique Power Weapons which don't apply here)

Power Fists have different points costs, but then they are not Power Weapons but a separate weapon type.
