Hi guys, I'm just getting into RT and I had a quick question about how wounds work in Rogue Trader. Do characters actually lose wounds, or do they just suffer critical injuries when the damage they have received surpasses their wounds? Thanks!

The characters will take wounds e.g. starting the day with 15 then getting hit with a chainsword might knock them down to 8. Any damage that takes them into negative numbers will result in rolling in the critical injury table.

Yes, technically you’re correct. You don’t ‘lose’ wounds so much as you ‘gain’ damage, and once the damage is greater than your total wound count you then start taking critical damage.
At the end of the day though it really is a much of a muchness. Whether you’re tracking ‘lost’ wounds or ‘gained’ damage it doesn’t make a whole lot of difference.

Okay, because I read somewhere that a certain rule or something can cause the character to regain wounds- so I guess it'd be easier to just have the character actually lose them. How about the grids for combat? Is there a place to download and print them off, or do I really have to draw them all up by hand?

Well grids are up to you. The game doesn't require the use of models or grids or anything, although you certainly can do it that way. We play Dark Heresy/Deathwatch with models for pretty much everything, and we either do a 1 square = 2 metres squares thing on map sheets and whatnot, or 1 inch square = 2 metres square if using regular 40K terrain.

We vary whether or not we use one in our group depending on the actual encounter in RT since some of them can work over much larger distances than others and have found the grids only really help for relatively close fights (e.g. total area roughly 50 to 100 m square) compared to one that at least starts with heavy weapons at extreme ranges.
If you don't fancy drawing them out you could look at getting something like the Paizo drywipe grid board. It's a double sided sheet with the gridlines marked out then you can just sketch on the terrain bits you want.
