So, to all those who love Gaunt and the Tanith First, this year seeing as on both their online and paper catalog they are announcing the release of the already published Salvation's Reach for Nov. 2012????? I have a few speculations to why this might be:
-They made a major screw up (I've sent them an email on this and haven't received an answer yet)
-They haven't confirmed the title yet and are just putting Salvation's Reach out there as a place marker and to confirm that the Ghost's are coming back
Any other ideas to why this is?
Spoiler:
On a related topic what plot points will there be: this is the omnibus labelled "The Victory" so we have two objectives: the attempt at Salvation's Reach actually works and the Crusade ends, Gaunt and the Ghosts finally get their planet, or something else related to the defeat of the archenemy. We also don't know if this is a three or four part omnibus making this year either the final installation of the omnibus or the book that will establish the setting for the next book.
But we also have Brin Milo who left with the Saint and hasn't reappeared and since Soric made his reappearance in "Only in Death" I think Milo has a good chance of coming back with the Saint to help the Ghosts.
Also we have the enigmatic grin of Mabbon at the end of Reach and the confirmation that the great Chaos vessel Tormaggedon Monstrum Rex was at Salvation's Reach and witnessed the attack on the facility.
This all adds up to a pretty interesting book we have to look forward to.
Not much really happened in Salvation's Reach really, so it may be leading onto a story set in a smaller time period than the other novels have been. Milo has to get a mention at some point I think, at least in an epilogue as say the saint's aide or the like. The Victory is a neat title for a final ark, but I'd prefer if the last book finished where the characters are in the story as it is now instead of leaving it open ended. By this I mean giving them a last battle before saying they walked off into the sunset, followed up by an epilogue (written in the prose of an Imperial Campaign Archivist...seeing as that's how each novel starts, the actual story's just elaborating and telling us what really happened) that notes a little about what happened to the regiment, whether Gaunt ever kicked the Warmaster out of his posting and took over, and what happened to the Crusade in the end would be nice though. ^^
