This is a project a started nearly a year ago with a friend of mine inspired by an other converters post.
Anyways.
This is my Squiggoth-Conversion-Project
Everything started with a wheel of time triceratops I bought via ebay.
It's quite easy to glue together. 12 pieces or something like that. I didn't need the neck thrill just the three horns, so I didn't mount em up.
I used plastic glue for the whole project. With a needle you can easily use it for big areas and pieces. It's not quite easy to use if you have small pieces (eg. screws and stuff like that). But after 100 screws you know how to handle it
Tada: In the background you can see some gargoyles I did. Maybe I'm gonna post the conversion photos of it in another post.
As you can see, I used the two upper horns as tusks.
First Modelling
I was using some aero modelling clay for organic conversions like the tongue or the head.
Just put some clay on the head and re-model the missing head.
The tongue was harder to model. I did several.
HINT: Do not make the tongue too short^^
I tried to do the gum of the side horns as well with the aero clay. But it was way too coarse. A few pics later you will see, I did them again with green stuff ^^.
Plastikkart, I love you!
I have the idea of a leather-plate armor, so I was cutting 15mm x 50mm - 150mm pieces of 1.0mm and 1.5mm and 2mm plastikkart.
You can see a few wires I did from bass strings
There still is some of the old platform idea left. I removed most of it aterwards (you will see =)
Sorry for the blurry pictures ^^
Greenstuffed
As I said before, I re-modelled the gum with green stuff. With a screw I did some relief lines on the middle horn.
Armour-Dillo
Leather-Armour completed. On the tail I will make a "Metal Armour".
Hum. I cannot find the pictures I did of tank-construction. I just made a box out of plastikkart pieces (some large ones) and i was filling it with aero clay to fit to the dino's back. If you're interested I will take some more pictures =)
I have prepared something:
This is the complete lot:
tank-construction with balcony (yep, there are some H-Joists used
leg armor with spikes and rust (I used sand for it and some bits)
The banners have actually been an accident. I wanted to bend 0.5mm plastikkart over a flame and it was rolling itself like a scroll. I liked it alot and did two more )
Turret
A box of plastikkart with some 0.5mm plastikkart laces.
I used green stuff to make it more grundgy and used. Some scratches were accidental some on purpose. It's an ork vehicle, it doesn't matter!
Cannon
Self-made from a pipe and some green stuff. For the screws I used 6-edged-pipes in little pieces. Fortunately it's orky, so it's not that bad that every screw has it's own boldness
I guess it was a tank piece. I don't know, I just think it's awesome. So I daggered it onto the turret.
Status right half
As you can see, it also has some chaos elements/armor:
This is as far as I got for now. I don't work on it every day, I'm not that creative, maybe you have some suggestions. It's just one piece at a time.
Hope you like it =)

Well I don't know, but maybe this thread helps or inspires someone else. With larger photos it's easier to see what I did, I didn't know you're surfing with your cell phone ;-)

VERY nice work! I've never played Orks but I love building orkish equipment because it's so open-ended. A good friend of mine, doktor_g on here, is building a triceratops squiggoth as well, I'm pointing him at this for inspiration.

Well, I'll be... This is a VERY impressive first thread! Awesome conversion so far, and excellent plasticard work!
I guess there's not much I can suggest to make this any cooler, however, some small ideas, if I may:
1.) There seem to be some pretty noticeable moldlines running down the middle the dinosaur's legs. You should get rid of those, either by using GS (or Miliput) or by adding some additional armour plating on top to obscure them. Otherwise, you'll always be angry at yourself for the oversight on an otherwise stellar conversion!
2.) The actual cannon looks a little puny for my taste. I always imagined Ork cannons to be these totally overblown doomsday devices, with all kinds of strange bitz tacked on everywhere. Maybe you should just add a couple of technical bitz -- some Skaven parts might work as well. As it is, the cannon is letting the rest of the model down.
3.) Maybe you should add some corrugated metal sheets (made from corrugated plasticard or cardboard) as additional armour plates. That would make the whole armour look even more haphazard and tie in nicely with the Orks' tendency to use all kinds of junk for their "projects".
Apart from those little nitpicks, though: Fantastic! Keep up the great work!

That Squiggoth looks great. I've been thinking of picking up one of those revell triceratops models after seeing someone else use it on the waaagh last month, but how do they compare in size to the Forgeworld Sqiggoths?

@KrautScientist
Dankeschön =)
1) Yeah... I know... but it just didn't want to fit!
I'm already planning of a mechanical leg. I just don't know, how to maybe something steempunky.
2) I was planning on puttung two cannon pipes in separate directions, really ork like. It was my first cannon I did and I guess, not the last one ;-) Hum, maybe I create another one or equip em with magnets. we'll see. But you're right it's a little to eldar
3) hehe loads of junk will be added in the end... I still know what a ___ it was when I had to paint my tank after I converted it. I had to put down some parts to paint it completely and put em onto the tank afterwards and paint again Automatically Appended Next Post: Bangbangboom wrote:That Squiggoth looks great. I measured mine (just the dinosaur, without my mounting) for you:
Length: 13 1/2 "
Width: 5"
Height: 6"
I found on the Internet: Gargantuan Squiggoth: 9" tall, 5 1/2" wide, 13" long
So I think it fits quite well.
With the turret it can get 9" tall easily and with some more armour on the sides 1/2" is easily to get ^^.

Hmmm, maybe not a mechanical leg, but some kind of leg splint, like the leg was externally reinforced with metal beams and things like that. That would fit the steampunk aesthetic and could be easily added on top of the existing leg. And it could be strategically placed to obscure that moldline

Well... since my baby-turret wasn't orky enough, here are some bigger guns:
as one can see, 4 guns in U order.
I used 8/6 mm tubes and 10/8 mm turbes and just stuffed them together. Afterwards I drilled 2mm holes into them and cleaned the holes with a 3.2 mm drill.
A Tyranid head was stuffed onto a pike (hello, Game of Thrones!) and I formed some scrolles with green Stuff and 0.5mm plastikkart.
better ?

Very cool! I imagine the more massive gun will work together with the rest of the model much better!
Keep up the great work!

This is absolutely brilliant. When I find some cheap toy dinosaurs of the right size I'm doing half a dozen or so although mine will be for Epic.

This is a great idea! I'm working on a Snakebite Army and I play a LOT of Apoc games.
I was really struggling with ideas for a home-made squiggoth (no way I could afford the FW one). I will def have to borrow this idea for my own.
Great Work!
