I disagree. Although the eldar books are good, I find that the parts where the eldar think and do things are far too childlike compared to what they'd actually do, although given that it's the only unrealistic point I don't particularly mind.

You disagree with what?

I said they are close enough that its plausable to have a book written about them because we are somewhat alike (I dont read them for the very reason you said, I feel like Eldar would fail to live up to their age and culture because the writer isnt an Eldar lol)

Hmmm?

Korlandril, Thrianna and whatshisface are children. A hundred year old Eldar is an adolescent in Eldar years, so... it would make sense that they act like teenage brats.

Eldar are basically humans dialed up to an 11. Someone needs to read more Path of the ____ books and less bolterporn stories.

The Eldar books were written by a human... in RL.

I don't read elf related material as it bores me to no end.

I don't read bolter porn. I've read as much powered armoured novels as I can handle and I'm currently trying to read the Soul Drinkers omnibus purely to write a report about how terrible it is.

And no, Eldar don't share qualities with humans. They have a few analog parts and features but are in no way human. Hence why they think they're better than humans.

If that point didn't get across in the Path books then those books failed to represent the Eldar properly.

Replace the visual of Guard with Ratmen and alien looking lumbering war machines and suddenly they're less human-like than the societies of Eldar or Orks (albeit those are more like barbarian cultures, but that's still human).

Ignoring the Eldar for a second sense they ARE similar to humans

The Orks are a race that solve everything by beating each other up and using teeth as money. NO human group but the worst barbarians in human history act like Orks. I dont understand how you can even remotely say that the Orks are relatable in anyway.

The Imperial Guard are fething CARBON COPIES OF HUMANS FROM FROM THE 20TH CENTURY.

Cadians are based off a a Canadian / British combat and organization with the mixing of ancient Spartan culture.
Catachans are very USA Special forces of Vietnam.
Steel Legion is WW2 Germans
DKoK WW 1 Germans
Tallaran is British forces in the mid East with that islamic culture sprinkled in
Vostryons are Cossaks
Vahallaran is WW2 Soviets

Oh im not just talking about the looks, im talking about the culture, the way the people act, their approach to war, everything about them.

Combat tactics are based off the ideas of miltiary forces fighting during World War 2. Fluff makes a big deal about these guy being normal every day people given Kevlar Body Armor and an M16 (equivlents) and going into combat with them. Sometimes there are human wave tactics used but first, the Orks perform a even worse version of the human wave, and second, that tactic was used in human history quite a lot.

Military units have a vast difference is design so that some units hand out officer positions like the human forces during the medivil ages through heredity or riches. Other regiments hand officer ranks to those who attend schools or rise through the ranks.

If you say the Orks and Necrons (well I guess newcrons are okay but still weird) are more human like than the Imperial Guard than you apperently have never looked at ANY of the Imperial Guard fluff and have a weird view on what human like is

Really sorry chap but I have to interject here.

This is often a mistake people make. Those greatcoats are actually a copy of the type used by the French, the puttee's come from the British uniforms, the helmet is derived from the German stalhelm, the colour tabs worn on the collars (to denote unit) are Belgian, the chevrons worn by sergeants are of the British insignia, cuirasses are of a generic European design, the carapace armour worn by the Grenadiers is an imitation of the German & British trench armours, the flute (ridge) on the helmet is taken from the French helmets and the webbing is based upon those worn by the Germans & French.

Two others to mention:
Mordian Iron Guard: 1820-1900 European Imperial/Colonial troops
Praetorian Guard: 1870-1890 British Army

Generally the Imperial Guard regiments GW have portrayed, whether through pictures or models, are based upon armies from c18-c20, generally by amalgamating armies of differing nations to provide a more unique look. For example the Mordian Iron Guard wear peaked caps, which were common amongst the Prussian Landwehr units at a time when many regiments/armies retained the shako and continued to use it up until the 1850s/60s. They tend to be a good old mix of things, like the Catachans being more a mix of 80s action-heroes with US Vietnam War troops.
