Been checking out the army list forum an have noticed that people are not posting to many army lists with allied detachments. An was wondering why.

Edit: Sorry for the limited number of selections, was just wondering to myself why people weren't looking more into allies. My local scene has been very slow to adopt them and a lot of the guys I game with have multiple armies. Heck since 6th came out I have only run a primary force army once, an that was a Draigowing army.

It probably has something to do with the fact that 6th is still relatively new, and not everyone has a second army ready to throw into their primary list. And even if they have a second army, it may not include the appropriate units that they'd want to include in their primary list. If you wait longer for people to figure out what allies they want and buy and build the required models I suspect you will see allies become more common.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

I personally am waiting and hoping for some kind of Allies book or WD article that will allow me to take a small Inquisition force (stormtroopers and assassins) that doesn't have to include GKs or Corteaz.

I had started building a Daemonhunters army in 3rd edition, with the idea of being Inquisition only, no GKs (because I wanted them to be more Ordo Xenos), but then stopped playing 40K all together until recently, and so for now, my Inquisitor Lord, squad of stormtroopers, and Vindicaire will have to continue to go unused.

I also think the current allies chart is wonky as hell. About the only one that makes perfect sense is Tyranids.

I've only used allies once, and it was pretty much just to fill up some points. However, I do plan on doing a lot more with allies once I figure out some creative counts-as solutions, like using all my Arbites models as allied Sisters of Battle or what have you.

I dunno. I think the Daemons chart is pretty good too. Brother in Arms with Chaos Marines, naturally. Desperate Allies with Dark Eldar, Tau and Orks - Dark Eldar already use Daemons of a sort with Mandrakes, Tau are pretty naive when it comes to the Warp so they'd likely take the 'help' if offered, and Orks would likely, in a tough fight, let any daemons that appeared and started helping them fight for them until they were ready to punch their faces in. Allies of Convenience with Guard, well, traitor guard.

I don't know that I agree that Dark Eldar and Tau would be allies with Chaos Daemons...Chaos Marines maybe, but not Daemons. Tau are naive, but not stupid. The fact that they are battle brothers with Marines and Eldar would certainly educate them enough to stay as far away from Chaos Daemons as possible. With the current Allies table, you could potentially have Slaanesh daemons allying with Dark Eldar, which is just not right at all given that their entire society devolved to their current state in order to avoid the curse of Slaanesh.

Can I put an answer inbetween "I use them all the time" and "I've used them once or twice"?

I'm missing an option in the poll. As I play Word Bearers I will try to use Daemons all the time and I'm using my SMs as allies for my Tau as long as my Cadre is not big enough to use it alone. But as I'm using my Exorcists way more often than the two aforementioned, I would like to vote something like 'I use them quite often'

Playing mostly Necromunda and Battletech, Malifaux is awesome too!

This answer best describes me. Some times I field my Thousand Sons, and Tzeentch Daemons by themselves and other times I use them together.

I use em all the time.

I just never post my lists anymore, because when I do, people always funnel me toward choosing units that are optimal. It's also why I don't post threads looking for advice on how to use the units I like, because people's advice usually boils down to, "That unit sucks, use this one instead."

Agreed.

I have Dark Eldar models that I'll be using as allies but not for a while.

I only play with painted models and I have about 1000 points of Ork stuff to finish before I allow myself to paint anything else.

I've proxied once or twice, plan on doing more allying when I've got the spare money to buy models from other armies.

I have some old forces kicking around I could use. My problem is that the codexes I have for them are from 3rd edition. And my IG probobly haven't been been a valid army since the RT lists.

I'd like to field my eldar as allies, but am not going to drop $50 for a rulebook, and then see if I can field a valid detactment with the models I own.

If I ever do get around to fielding them, the layers of dust on them should be good for at least a 5++ save.

Though I'm with ClassicCarraway concerning the current Allies chart being a bit weird in places, I think it's a cool idea. I haven't used allies yet, but I definitively plan on doing so in the future, which is why I've put my vote down as "1-2 times" prophylactically.

Haven't tried 'em much, to be honest. I suppose I would think of them as filling a weakness in my codex, and my boyz clearly don't have any.

Seriously, though, I really don't see much use for them in my armies. I've been playing Orks almost exclusively in 6th, and I'm really not sure what I would bring in from another codex. Really, the only thing that I've ever struggled with is AV14, and even that is pretty easily dispatched with a couple of Nob Bikers charging in with S9 power klaws. Most everything I've faced will die to enough bullets or Zzap/Kannon fire.

I play Nids so don't have a choice in this poll :-/ I have no problems with allies but find it insulting that we can't in the least access the expanded FOC possibilities like everyone else. I'm ok with no non-Tyranid allies, but the FOC limits (compared to everyone else) hurts.

Sorry I kinda missed how much activity the poll was getting. Should have had a few more options in there.

Really really glad to hear so many people talking up allies. I love em to death. Have added Imp Guard and Dark Angels detachments to my collection since they came out. The Guard I am building more as a standard army, but Belial and his 10 TH/SS with cyclones buddies are awesome for 630 points.

I play mostly 1999 limit games, an at that point range allies are really viable.

Yes the chart is kinda wonky, its like they took the fluff into account in some spots, like not making Dark Angels and Space Wolves battle brothers due to their history, but ignoring it completely in others. Commander Farsight of the Tau a commander who has a well known hatred for Orcs to be allies of convenience, the Dark Eldar and Chaos pairing, and the ultimate insult allowing Yarick and Ghazgull to be allies of convenience. Imagine the two of them skipping merrily across the battlefield together. Nothing would stop the two of them from killing each other.

I suppose it's because one character does not represent the entirety of the army. Farsight might despise Orks, but even aside from the fact that he's a splinter faction of the Tau, that doesn't mean that a commander on the opposite side of the sector would have an issue with joining up with da boyz for a fight against a common foe.

Makes me wonder if they're going to take that into account with future codices. Something like, "An army that includes Commander Farsight can never include Orks as allies," or the like. On a per-codex basis I could see it, but trying to implement it in the 6e book would be too much of a hassle.

It will be interesting to see if the 6th edition codices actually include a more thought out ally chart for that specific army. I certainly hope so, and I'd imagine certain characters will have extra limitations on who they will ally with (such as no DE with Slaanesh, no Ghazkull with IG, etc).
