Subject: SW Grey Hunters: Rhino vs RB

Been wondering about the way I've been transporting my GH's (Grey Hunters) and what you guys think is the best route to take. Since our GH's can take a special at 5 strong and another for free at 10, I've been having a hard time deciding whether to forego the free special gun or not.
Razorback: (I take Assault Cannons)
-Extra Firepower
-Only carries 6 GH's or 5+WG (Wolf Guard)
-Substantially more expensive
-6 man squad forego's the FREE special gun
-Easier to kill squad since smaller
-Overall cheaper for the RB + 5 or 6 GHs
Rhino: (My 10 man GHs specials are generally Plasmaguns)
-Cheaper, so more pts towards other things
-Gets a free special weapon in the max amount squad
-Hard to move squad when holding objective
-2 shooting ports so both special weapons can fire at regular BS when moving 6"
-Once squad is deployed it is not really a threat anymore
-Overall more expensive for the Rhino + 10 GHs
There are so many Pros and Cons for each...that it's REALLY hard for me to decide which I should really "spam" or should I just take a combination of both? Maybe 2x 10man/Rhino squads and the rest 5-6 GH/RB squads?
Is there a general consensus on which one is best to take for a competitive minded list?
**Rest of list is: Rune Priest, Rifledreads, Longfangs. Landspeeders occassionally**

Or drop pods. Maybe no transport at all? Unless you want to rely on counterattack.
If your focusing on shooting (as a space wolf? Heresy...) go razorback with 10 man, combat squad, leave a few guys at home on an objective and head towards the killing zone.
If melee, then leave the metal boxes at home...

Why not both? One full unit in a rhino to advance on an objective (12", pop smoke, then 6" a turn blasting away), 1 rb holding an objective and providing fire support. Then another unit of gh depending on your tactical needs, either rhino or rb.
The backfield rb I'd make las / plash or tl la's.

Feels like 5 man squads are too weak..plus the special weapons inside are wasted...maybe the 10 man cheaper transport is the way to go. I ally GK by the way

I prefer mix and match, for every 10-man Rhino, I bring 1 5-man Razorback. The guys in Rhino rush up and get blown to pieces. If they are lucky to live until turn 3, they will assault.
The 5-man Razorback stays in the back and cuddle up in ruins. The Flamer is free and can cause quite a few more wounds than you expect.
You can also do one of each:
10-man footslog + WG + Wolf Priest + Outflanking => that's one Victory Point for Hold the Line right there.
10-man double plasma in Drop Pod => come down and break stuff up
10-man double flamer/melta in Rhino => move up and get shot to pieces while your backfield is safe
2x 5-man + WG in Razorbacks move to contest and grab side/midfield objectives.
The nice thing about having 30-man in the front line is your 5-man can grab mid field objective without much issue.

Razorback spam is really not all that great any more.
I would go with rhinos/drop pods.

Sure Space Wolves Land Raider Pilot

I have an 1850 Space Wolf footslog army that works quite well. No vehicles, no transports, nothing with an AV.
HQ
Wolf Priest (Terminator Armour), Preferred Enemy is usually Infantry
Rune Priest (Boltgun instead of Bolt Pistol), Divination powers
Elites
5x Wolf Guard (Terminator Armour, 4x CombiPlasma, 4x Power Fist, 1x Cyclone Missile Launcher)
Troops
10x Grey Hunters (2x Plasma Gun, 1x MotW, 1x Wolf Standard)
10x Grey Hunters (2x Plasma Gun, 1x MotW, 1x Wolf Standard)
10x Grey Hunters (2x Plasma Gun, 1x MotW, 1x Wolf Standard)
10x Grey Hunters (2x Plasma Gun, 1x MotW, 1x Wolf Standard)
Attach a Wolf Guard Terminator with Combiplasma to each pack, Wolf Priest to one, Rune Priest to another.
Fast Attack
3x Thunderwolf Cavalry (Storm Shield)
Heavy Support
6x Long Fangs (5x Missile Launcher, 1x Squad Leader)
6x Long Fangs (5x Missile Launcher, 1x Squad Leader)
5x Long Fangs (4x Missile Launcher, 1x Squad Leader)
Attach the Wolf Guard with Cyclone Missile Launcher to the pack with only 4 Missile Launchers.
List should work out to 1850 points exactly.
The key number to remember is 24. It's the max range on most of the ranged weapons, max range on RP's Runic Weapon and the maximum charge of TWC. The three deployment types allow you to deploy within 24" of your enemy quite frequently, and the new Rapid Fire rules mean you can keep moving and still fire Bolters and Plasma. Once everyone gets into 12" range there's the option of Rapid Firing and trying to lure your opponent into a counter charge, or switch to Bolt Pistols and launch an Assault of your own. Rune Priest goes from being fire support in 5E to using buff spells from Divination. On the Big Guns Never Tire mission, only one unit isn't scoring!
Under 6E rules, Rhinos and Razorbacks are way too easy to destroy and honestly aren't worth the points. Try a footslog list and see for yourself.

And this is why the SW codex is so awesome. Unlike a lot of other codexs, it has a lot of viable builds. Ignore the "Net lists" spam that people claim is everywhere. There are 5 SW armies at my local store (I have one of them). All different and not a single one is a "net list".
