I was wondering if I have the summoning spell and my storm raven has war stabilization field would I able to use my librarian to summon the storm raven if it's going at zooming? I know by deep strike rules it is going at cruising speed, so therefore possible?

Summoning says use Deep Strike rules, so if it's already set that Deep Striking counts as cruising speed for zooming flyers you are already good to go.

Sounds like a good way to keep it from flying off the board and to line up shots on targets, all without losing hard to hit.

The only thing I saw was nastier was when Someone unloaded their paladins out of a land raider standard and then warped it back so that it was in a 5+ cover buble while firing off 2 tl-las cannons a turn.

Pretre: Are repressors assault vehicles? If they are, I'm gonna need emergency pants.
n0t_u: No, but six can shoot out of it. Other than that it's a Rhino with a Heavy Flamer thrown on if I remember correctly.
Pretre: Thanks! I guess my pants are safe and clean after all.

That... is a really good idea actually. You could theoretically just keep summoning it back (provided it doesn't get blown up) and get as many turns of shooting out of it as it takes for it to initially come on the board which neatly negates one of the major drawbacks of it being a flier. (aka always flying off the board)

Perhaps in conjunction with another HQ that has 'psychic communion' (for the +1 to reserves rolls) or a second librarian so you can leash a couple of ravens across the board over and over again?

And you can have the Libby also cast Shrouding so the Stormraven has the Stealth rule too. So if its Evading it will have a 4+ save, and a 4+ if its in Hover Mode regardless.

This topic interests me, but as I am not well versed in the flyer rules, could anyone explain to me what's so great about this? Can you summon it from reserves?
and get as many turns of shooting out of it as it takes for it to initially come on the board

This makes it sound like it blinks in for the turn and then goes back into reserves after it has shot. That clearly cannot be the case?

Fliers have a couple of rules that make them 'special'.

1) They must move at least 18 inches a turn.
2) They may only make a single vehicular 'pivot' (as in, flight direction change) at the beginning of each movement phase, and only to a maximum of 90 degrees.

These two rules combine to make them next to impossible to keep in a specific location; so they way they work out generally is they fly in and shoot a specific target (and if you are lucky, another target 18 inches from the first on the next turn), and then inevitably head off the board to go back in ongoing reserves to hopefully repeat the process.

With a librarian and summoning you could effectively keep pulling them back to your HQ allowing them to shoot at whatever that model happens to be near over and over again. One of the main drawbacks of fliers is that they have no board presence since you have to fly them off the board so often. This mostly negates that; leaving just their awesome firepower in combination with being next to impossible to hit that all fliers have.

This is a Good Thing.(tm)

I have been doing this for a while now. I have a very good list with Libbies and Termies with 2 ravens. Works very very well.

No, the idea is basically you summon it at the beginning of each turn(after its on the board of course)

Once summoned, it doesn't move because Deep Striking is Cruising Speed. Which for a Zooming Flyer is 36"

So you get the benifit of Zooming, but without having to actually move the flyer. You just need to keep making psychic tests with the Librarian, and re-deepstriking the Storm Raven each turn.

So the Flyer can keep its bead on one specific target, but still have Hard to Hit, etc...

I have to admit its a pretty nice Idea. Definately an intresting combination.

I would also put a servo skull in the back field so you could make the chances of a mishap almost none.

Except its going to be hard to not come too close to the Servoskull and make it pop.

Friendly units do not pop servo-skulls, so use the grey knight version.
