Yup, that seems to be an accurate assesment.

If you can keep your head, while all about you are losing their's, then you have probably completely misunderstood the situation!

I find it funny how I walk into stores and hear how people are going to do CSM. You have people who have used the cheesiest armies there are such as Draigo wing. Now an FAQ comes along saying that wound bouncing crap doesn't work and they cry nerf and go to CSM, expecting them to be the new GK. Meanwhile, CSM DP's get upgraded from Jump Infantry to Flying monsteros creatures. I think that errata to CSM shows that CSM is very soon and that they want to make DP useble even though there really hasnt been ANY mentioning of them at all.

Part of me is glad, people around here are giving CSM the recognition they deserve, and not the Matt Ward armies that have plagued us for years. Part of me is dissapointed because I loose my uniquness as being the only CSM player.

Oh, they are not ALL WAAC types, but I'm being told of people who use to play CSM back in 3.0 and 3.5. Yet I never saw these people play 4th, at least for any extended period of time. I started right when 4th came out, this month marks 5 years I've been playing CSM actually.

I hope that CSM is at least a little Cheesy, after being beaten sensless by broken armies. Would be nice to have the tables turned.

I just hope that my Death Guard that I have been lovingly modelling and painting for the last 6 months don't get nerfed before I've even played a game with them!

From what I have noticed since 2nd edition when I started is that Chaos is one of if not the most popular army for players to collect. The model range has always been one of the best when compared to the other. Sure Kharne and his berzerkers look dated now but I remember when he was the best sculpt in 40k. Some of us just have too many armies and this horrid book made us store our armies away for a bit. Play long enough and you will end up with at least 2 or 3 armies and notice you fall into this pattern.

For me its not codex creep, I would just like to play with the 60+ painted Khorne Berzerker army I have with out reinacting The Battle at Rorke's Drift

I have a random thought on the size difference. It may just be my optimism but, You guys think they may have increased size of the miniatures in a attempt to make failcast easier to produce with less error? I don't know anything about manufacturing really but I assume that a larger product would be less effected by errors in the resin right? Maybe I'm just an idiot I don't know. Lol Trying for a bit of optimism.

I actually am watching this release with interest. I've not always been a fan of chaos but Tzeentch's fluff mostly amuses me and the new models thus far look amazing. I'm hoping TS get some real nifty stuff. If they get cool models than count me in.

Someone once told me this about Porsche Panameras:
"There are two Panamera's in my hood. Visual pepper spray. When Jesus was on the cross and cried out "Father, why have you forsaken me?" it wasn't because of the whole crucifixion, it was because he foresaw the design of the Porsche Panamera."
You learn something new everyday.

My group was talking about exactly that when we were looking at the DV box set last Tuesday (our game night).

The dark angels tactical squad is the same height as the Assault on Black Reach guys, for what it's worth.

No, the size difference is minimal and just typical scale creep that's been going on since like 1986. It has nothing to do with Finecast.

chaos cultists can be huge and mutated anyway. I don't have a problem playing them against properly scaled/proportioned 28mm figs. Makes em look a bit like Orks. I got 33 cultists done so far and when I get my second wave in, be more like 60 or so...

Yeah, I think many older players have a CSM force closeted away somewhere, and all the new kids will want it.... I've done the 40k hipster thing and played the codex to it's bitter end, so suck it! My plan is to get wound up for the release, then once it comes out I will complain about it being the latest broken thing and spend all my money on tyranids or eldar. I am too bitter from waiting for this codex right now, like an abused housewife.

I agree it has nothing to do with finecast. The models that used to be produced in metal and now finecast are some of the model that tended to be on the smaller size relative to the modern plastics, especially older character models. Thus making plastic miniatures even bigger only accentuates that scale problem.

My guess is that it was simply a case that the detail looked better when slighly larger and being digitally sculpted made it easy to make that possible. The whole digital age of sculpting presents two potential issues for model scale, without a physical model, its easier to lose a sense of scale resulting in some of the things you model on a computer might simply not carry into the physical model properly because of greater resolution in the digital model from the resolution of the machine physically producing it. The nature of digital modeling though makes it too easy to simply scale up to the point your sculpted detail shows up properly, avoiding the effort of reculpting.

I think another part of scale creep is simply that larger miniatures can more easily hold more detail and thus look more impressive. If you were a manager and the sculpter brought the sculpted forms of the new Chaos marines from the starter set and said "this is it"... who is going to say "awk, they're 1mm too tall, redo them," Most people just say "wow" and accept them. If scale really mattered people would have stopped buying these toys a while ago. The rate of scale creep is just simply that little +.5mm that people shrug off but over time adds up.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

Yepper, WD-Daily is up and it's the new Editor chappie, not even a whiff of CSM. And they still seem determined to keep the magazine completely under wraps until the 22nd.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"Your society's broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No, lets blame the people with no power and no money and those immigrants who don't even have the vote. Yea, it must be their fething fault." - Iain M Banks
-----
"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

I have failed.....

Would GW really not show the csm release in the new WD? I mean a brand new magazine with no mention of the first ever 6th edition army update? Just seems illogical. This is why I am really suprised there isnt a teaser for csm yet. I mean the teasers are usually a week before arent they?

This whole thing has chaos written all over it. I blame Tzeentch again.

It's pretty ridiculous that we're almost at a year with no codex release at all. Necrons were November, right?

I guess so, that's the first time I've heard of any "official" name for it.

I'm interested. As I said before, my dream 1850pt list is something like

-Ahriman
-Sorcerer
-4 Units of Tsons
-2 shooty demon engines
-Helldrake or whatever flier.

All about some helldrake action but I refuse to drop 50 bucks on something just because it's a flier. It needs to look good, and needs to be able to be turned Tzeentchy.

We need leaks FAST because I can't get this image out of my head:
