Maybe at the name (and nothing they can do about that), but the didn't invent the high fantasy genre or the art style. There just the most well know for it.

The name, the art style, the character designs, the logo, the font choices, the setting, etc. If you want to pretend that this isn't a clear ripoff (a welcome one), that's your choice, but it is pretending.

We like to use the term 'homage', but we hold no illusions (maybe ALLUSIONS) to what EFT is based on. Though with future characters and tropes hopefully you'll see it is based on plenty of other 90's RPGs.

The background fluff for the Dragoon is a reference to a different line of games about fire and how one breathes it.

Never said it wasn't a ripoff. I said they didn't event the genre, just the best know. As such there is nothing SE can do or really get upset about.

I saw something on TTGN that the art and coloring style was more akin to WW2 era Disney art... I'm sure Cy or Misk could probably comment more on that one.

I don't think you will have much to worry about for a while. The fact that you're a non competitor and aren't actually infringing on IP, just heavily riffing on it, means that Squenix probably won't care.

It was more that the style of art (what is commonly called anime) has been around since around WW2, and was originally based off of Disney's works.

I really do not see the issue that some posters are trying to go for here.

I'd like to see more on the background, and see some figures, other then generic wizard number 7.

Interesed in the concept, though. Especially if there are a few more of these styled guys at 28-32mm level.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

We'll be doing previews of generic characters as we head towards our kickstarter, along with some setting background information.

More sculpts will be shown during the kickstarter, Bob Naismith who did portions of the Starship Troopers line, our Valkyr and Gecko Riders, is set to do the Adept and another model.

The Endless models are scaled at about 35-40mm, they're a little bigger but still fit on 25/30mm bases. So they're about the size of some epic warcasters or bigger HQs.

Currently Brother Vinni, Bob Naismith, and Daniel Fokine are doing sculpts for EFT. We're looking to add a few more talented folks depending on funding achieved and their personal schedules. (Already tried to get Patrick Keith, but he is a little busy...)

I like the Dragoon, and I'm a big Brother Vinni fan so that bodes well. The art for the Archer and the Adept seem oddly proportioned, even for the art style. I reserve judgement on the Sorceror because that's not a great picture of him.

I'm interested in this game, but between the three aforementioned options I have my Anime/Final Fantasy themed gaming well and truly covered, so Endless Fantasy will have to bring a lot to the table in terms of gameplay and sculpts.

I'm curious as to why the figures are 40mm, as it's a bit of a no man's land for scale nad it also prevents people from buying an anime themed figure or two for Super Dungeon Explore or Anima Tactics, and now the successful Relic Knights.

I'm also curious as to whether or not On The Lamb have made any roads to getting a European distributor. The shipping is generally something I don't mind swallowing when investing from outside the country of origin, but a lot of successful kickstarters have offered a distributor so that the tax we pay no longer supplies or is severely limited. Also it's going to be handy simply to be able to expand the game without constantly ordering from across the pond. I suspect this hasn't happened, as for about a year On The Lamb have been working on a Euro distributor for a year or so for Brushfire, but it would be nice to know future plans.

We keep trying to get Euro/ROW Distribution, and several times have gotten close.. but we keep running into having them just stopping communication with us at some point. I'd love to have Euro/ROW (and US) distribution set up already, but its been ridiculously difficult.

Zond, the scale isn't as "far" out as you might expect. Looking at other big game companies, the EFT sculpts will be just a hair taller than the figures from GW, Wyrd, PP, Mantic, and Reaper as seen here:

Size comparison would be more useful if everything was equally based and the photograph was taken from a level view, and was in focus. Same goes for the actual Sorceror photo in general.

The reaper mini is the only one that wasn't at the exact same height, with its slightly built in scenic base raising it about 1mm.

I'll try to get some more size comparison pics later today, those were rushed so we could get the Sorcerer casted & painted before Adepticon.

It is also no longer on a hexagonal base, that was early in development when we were toying with the idea of a hex grid. The picture earlier in the thread of the Sorcerer is on a 25mm base, the size of a 1" square, like those used on RPG battle/dungeon maps.

Today we've got the Knight preview for today

Knight:

With armor forged in the forges of Mt. Kileen, the Knights of Zeutenheim are famous the world over. Too heavy and hulking to ride a steed, the Knight wades through enemies, barely feeling their blows. Knights of Halleford once fought alongside the Knights of Zeutenheim, but fell during the early days of the Miasma War, turning into crystalline monsters. The Zeutenheim Knights now stand alone at the frontline, defending the world from the magical plague.

The Knight’s defensive skills keep him in the fray far longer than his less armored allies, but in a pinch the Knight can become a decent damage dealer. A variety of stat damaging attacks also lets the Knight take down tougher enemies.

Thanks for posting the comparison shots. That helps quite a bit.

Don't mean to state the obvious, but it should be noted that 40mm in the above art from Cyporiean is to top of head, where other companies may be scaling 28-32mm to eyes. Measuring to the eye is very common when referencing scales, but nothing is standardized.

That actually makes them pretty comparable, especially looking at the GW, Reaper, and Privateer.

Edit- for better wording.

Since the kickstarter is about to go live, On the Lamb tweeted that there would be previews all this week, so today we have to Sorcerer. Many have seen the sculpt, but now it's time to meet him

Sorcerer:

In his autumn years, the Sorcerer has abandoned the halls of the Magickal Akademy and sequestered himself in lone study far from his peers. Some Sorcerers live on the outskirts of small villages, acting as magical guardians for meager room and board. Even with his increasing feebleness, the Sorcerer can conjure powerful spells beyond the ken of younger wizards.

The Sorcerer is able to change his elemental attunement at will, keeping himself from magical attacks and elemental monsters. His spell selection includes a wide variety of multi-target spells, letting the sorcerer combat groups of foes. Paired with his large pool of mana, the Sorcerer can cast spells for the entirety of a small battle, or use a mana potion to keep going through a longer fight.

Another update today, this one is a double dose of awesomeness

Squire

The youth of Zeutenheim will do anything to escape their bleak surroundings. Tired of her Ashen homestead, the Squire seeks to enter the knighthood and a chance to see the kingdom and the lands beyond. Though mostly untrained soldiers, Squires know their way around a sword and provide quantity, if not quality to reinforce the bulk of Zeutenheim’s armies.

Equipped with little more than a sword, Squires make up for their lack of equipment with spirit and bravery. Squires are perfect support for a better adventurer, knowing what they need and when. They also learn quickly from their betters, easily mimicking their combat styles.

I was really pleased that she came out so perfect, I've been tired of cheesecake in miniatures. This is really a chance for us to do female characters without just making overly sexualized models.
