My Zero currently uses a combination of every gun lol... Since I only have 3 weapon slots available, so I have a pistol, shotgun, and a sniper rifle, and I tend to switch them out with SMG and Assault Rifle when need be...

SMGs are a big part of my Axton playstyle, mostly because the "Frontline Engineer" class mod that I use (which is beautiful for a Guerilla/Gunpowder build) has a 25% bonus damage percentage to SMGs.

I've never been a fan of SMGs or shotguns for some reason.. till now. I did what I think is the last quest for that monster hunter guy where you have to kill a ginormous thresher. I killed it and it dropped an orange shotgun that does massive damage, and you can zoom in with it, it's like a sniper shotgun.

I got Moxxie's guns, I get the joke about why her favorite is her favorite, but I think it'll be too annoying to use after a while :/

I don't get it, what's the difference between SMGs and Rifles? I never found anything spectacular about SMGs, other than maliwan SMGs which are completely badass.
Also, slot machines are awesome. I got like 3 purple rarity weapons and a ton of eridium. My lvl13 soldier now has a maxed out backback and lvl2 rifle SDU.

SMGs have a much higher rate of fire and reload time, but deal less damage shot-for-shot.

They also have a quicker weapon swap time.

Assault Rifles deal relatively high damage shot for shot, have a decent reload time and rate of fire. Many of the Assault Rifles and their characteristics would be better classed as "battle rifles" instead, but eh can't be nitpicky.
Sometimes you'll get lucky and get a LMG styled rifle, but it's far and few between.

Ok, cool. I'll keep that in mind then.
Also, Michael Marmarill is awesome!
First time I spoke to him, he gave me a purple Maliwan SMG that deal electrical damage. My soldier has it as part of his standard loadout.

Started playing as 'Axton' instead, bar the odd difficulty spike its been alot more fun.

@CS, I might have the same one but i found it on that 'Splinter' mutant in the Tmnt mission. I think it's base damage is 63, it has a spinny thing on the side and some sort of ugly snout + a really sexy hologram crosshair. I agree it's a total beast.

The torgue assault rifles are quite good but really innacurate. They somehow manage to have very little sway or recoil but still have the bullets not quite go where you want them. Still they hit really hard and seem to do a good job of flinching the baddies.

Yeah, I love Torgue miniguns. Those chew up everything. Very, very good against those damned nomad badasses, as the explosion can hit past their riot shields and hurt them.

Flynt on True Vault Hunter mode is evil. Way too much health. I basically had to camp up on that spot near the ammo dispenser and spam corrosive/slag attacks.

This is the pistol I was mentioning before. So good. Also, my buddy and I were farming Scooter's Girlfriend (Snow White and her seven midgets), the giant that hid a weapons chest past her in the rat area, and then BATMAN!!!! He's a boss you don't have to fight, but I've gotten an orange pistol from him twice, worth a ton, but practically garbage (compared to equal level guns). He's called "Rakkman," but he hides in the Rakkcave and has pointy ears and swoops around at you. Couldn't stop laughing when I figured it out. Farm him, he'll give you high value weapons. Better than Laney (Snow) White.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I'm going the support route so that I can summon two turrets. The ability to stick the turret on pretty much any surface has proven to be far more useful than initially expected.

Switched to the Bloodshed tree as previously mentioned and I'm definitely doing better. My melee swings are devastating and combined with a ridiculous shotgun of one sort or another, I've had a lot less trouble. I do seem to be sniping a fair amount as the game progresses though, so perhaps I will do a sniper build on my second play through.

Also, I've been hitting the slots and aside from the occasional grenade, I've been getting a reasonable supply of Eridium to buy SDU's. Also, I got a purple Maliwan rocket launcher with electricity damage on it. Haven't had a chance to try it, but I will rectify that soon.

Well, after becoming bored with Zer0, I had a pop at Axton, and immediately after grabbing his turret, became exactly what perkustin described, although probably a little less-so thanks to the lack of skill points invested into the Guerrilla tree.

If a group of mobs appear, I throw in a Bonus Package MIRV that Boom (or maybe Bewm) dropped, slap down the turret, and take potshots with my 'splody shotgun.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

So...

My shotgun is a wizard.

I was doing the Wildlife Exploitation Preserve on my True Vault Hunter mode playthrough, and Timon dropped the "Swiss Dispatch" which is a legendary Tediore Shotgun with a really really unique quality.

You don't just "throw it and it goes boom" like most Tediore weapons. You "throw it and it tracks targets, firing while flying through the air until it finally explodes". It also does not explode just once--but up to three times.

Suffice to say, my shotgun is a wizard.

are they destroyed when they blow up?

Yeah, but it doesn't matter because Tediore guns instantly "respawn" in your hands after you reload them and then explode.

So you dont actually lose the gun?

Nope. Its just how it reloads.
The story goes that Tediore weapons were designed to be cheap and disposable. But there was an error with the weapon's design that cause it to explode after reloading.
Tediore took advantage of this and marketed this flaw as a "feature."

I see. I thought it was that you used cheap, crappy tediore guns as makeshift 1-off grenades. Good to know.

Yeah, the fact that the gun is rebuilt all the time is kinda wierd. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of it being disposable? Or maybe after they realized that it detonates after each reload, they added that feature in to make it more appealing on the market (from a story line point of view. Gameplay wise, its pretty obvious why its like that.)

I think it's meant to be that it's cheaper for tediore to digi-struct a brand new fully loaded gun into your hands than it is for them to design a way to reload it.

She's odd, but quite hilarious for the time being... I mean, what do you expect out of a 13 year old who has no other real human interaction (much like todays youth?)?
