Something as easy as painting the hoses and cables would help alot. Some blue, green, red, yellow, even some silver for all those cables/hoses would help the model alot. Need to do something with the multi melta to. I like the look of it, it is just alot. The good thing about any dread model is that there is alot of area to do some good detail and make each area pop.

It could use a bit more contrast, perhaps just keeping the plating that sharp pink and making the underlying mechanisms a darker color - perhaps purple?

Also, these photos create an interesting optical illusion. I'm looking at them on my iPad, and when I move my head or the tablet a bit, the Dread seems to "wiggle" independent of the background. The foreground and background hit just the right contrast to create that effect. It's neat, and I wanted to share that.

The model is half-done.

You are good with armour, highlighting and the banner on the left leg, the front and purity seal on the right arm.. Now paint the mechanical parts, weapons, cables, skulls, exhaust pipes and other details. Give it a bit of shading also and some blacklining.

I think people may be missing the point here. There's enough in the opening post about why this dread was painted, pointing toward there being a reason behind it not being a proper gaming piece, thus lacking the war-machine-of-destruction feel it'd get with gunmetal and hydralics cables and whatnot.

Rather than pointing at what the poster *should* have done for what *you* feel this model should be, rather look at what was done, and why.

Is there seriously no room for anything outside the box on Dakka?

When I look at the model my eye is instantly drawn to the scroll on the leg, the text combined with what it all represents is all the model needs. The fact that it DOESN'T have a lot of distracting "proper" stuff painted is actually good, or it'd just be another gaming piece.

I fitting tribute. I also agree that you should leave it all pink. That's the point after all.

The 'Hope' scroll really add's to this.

Good work.

I love the pink dreadnought! I noticed a few other people had mentioned giving it a little more contrast, I thought I'd post a couple images of some of my favorite pink war machines for possible reference... is it odd that I have a few favorite giant pink war robots?

Not that this figure needs to be changed in any way! Again beautiful work and a great paint job!

Pink is manly! Considering the purpose behind it, good job. The "hope" scroll is a nice touch.

Pretty cool of you to paint your model pink for your wife. Then on top of that actually have a purpose for the painting rather than just painting it. The iconic pink ribbon could be added so people instantly know what the dread means! Good job.

While I understand that its for the whole breast cancer thing, I still think with some detail work you could make it both. You don't have to do everything, just cables and open mechanical bits, and you could make it look really good and pink instead of just either or

I liked him, and if oyou like it that way, i think it is great... But i think it could have more contrast. Right now, it looks like a pink statue. If you are happy with that ok

But if you want a pink dread, add some contrastant colors, purple and white should do a BIG work for the figur

If my post show some BAD spelling issues, please forgive-me, english is not my natural language, and i never received formal education on it...

I like it. The hope scroll really sealed the deal for me.

"The uniforms of the Imperial guard are camouflaged in order to protect their wearers by hiding them from sight. the principle is that what the enemy cannot see, he cannot kill. This is not the way of the Adeptus Astartes. A Space Marine's armour is bright with heraldry that proclaims his devotion to his Chapter and the beloved Emperor of Mankind. Our principle is that what the enemy can see, he will soon learn to fear." -The codex Astartes

No this isnot cool.
Your motivation for painting the dread pink is cool.
Your execution however is very poor. In the gallery a base coat with a drybrush over such a large model would earn you a 5, or 6 tops. Your coolness score would be higher because the reason, but at the end of the day its a weak paintjob.
The suggestions at the top of the thread are legitimate and i felt respectfully put to you.

People if you come on Dakka with a weak looking model, regardlessof if your a kid, newbie to the hobby or the best motive ever, here we contribute ideas how to improve.

Further to suggestions above about picking out cables et al, there is a lot more that could be said to improve this model without taking away from its obvious pink theme and homage to breast cancer awareness. Its not about just is it a war machine of destruction, its the degree of care and skill you have bought to the hobby posted in front of other hobby-iests.

Nice... As you can see its not posted in the gallery, because I am not about to say my skills are even worth a gallery post. Just because I don't have the skills that you think one should posses to post on the forum doesn't mean I didn't put any care into this model. Thanks for the input/opinion.

Well, the OP clearly asked for oppinions. Them he said he was not looking for those oppinions. Kinda made me (and some other obvious people) feel like they had wasted time asking his question...

If you dont want C&C dont ask for it...

But anyway, i just think 2 guys over reacted, maybe a third one too...

though I agree seems like there were some over-reactions in this thread. I personally like the dread, is it the most amazing thing ever painted? Could it be improved on? Was it painted for a great reason? Yes to all 3
