RT's freedom can actually make it much easier on the GM, if the GM is good at "make it up as you go along" and worldbuilding.

Make up a subsector, generate a few planets for it (it's not that hard if you stick to themes for the planets) as well as some space anomalies like hulks, stations, asteroids, etc, generate a basic economy (IE, what worlds make what, what worlds need what, etc), generate some factions, and then the rest is play as you go and record everything so you can make it bite the players in the ass later.

Well, the last part is something every FFG RPG's dungeon master should do.

True, but some classes are more limited than others.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Or, y'know, if you're crazy you can come up with a whole sector, including defining what each and every planet is, the ruling families, important organisations, the history of individual planets, full time-lines for everything that's happened there stretching into the 42nd Millennium, and so on.

But as I said - only if you're crazy. Like me.

Nice map.

I find Rogue Trader to be the best balance. I really consider it Star Trek: 40K.

PCs are the "important" people, but they still go on the cool ground missions and do things that really should be left to other people, but the "stars of the show" do it instead.

I'm actually trying to find an online 40k rpg, and with the amount of experience I have I can probably GM one if needed, although it might be a little rough going for the first few goes.

I'm a techhead (real life) so however the game is being run will not be a problem. As for charachter idea... Its a matter of what game system and what the party already has.
