Hi all,

Played a friendly game the other night with my new VC army in the middle of battle i was asked about what armour my vamp lord had i said heavy and nightshroud at this point my opponent asked to see my book i let him and after a short while he said i cant wear heavy armour with nightshourd armour making my armour a +5.

is this the case or was i right in saying that he could wear both?

Understanding what the Nightshroud should be, I'm inclined to say that you can indeed take it with heavy armor. If it had "light armor" in its description then you couldn't.

This is an are where common sense dictates the rules, as there aren't strict categories for armor in the BRB.

Generally there are the following types of armor:
Helm
Chest/legs
Gloves
Shield
Cape

Clearly you can't take both a magic shield and a regular shield and compound the armor save. You can take both, but they don't add up.

By your opponents logic, one couldn't take a Helm of Discord along with heavy armor.

The nightshroud's name indicates that it is a cloak or cape of some sort, not a chest piece, or a helmet, or a shield.

I don't have my VC book on me at the moment, but iirc that item doesn't state any armor type.

It doesn't say light armour or heavy armour. You can wear the nightshroud with heavy armour.

The vampire FAQ says it can be combined.

There is no Vampire FAQ. If you have one, it is from the old book.

There's the fact that the mechanics of armor and the description of the Nightshroud haven't changed since the last edition, so the FAQ would still apply. If they had made some strict classifications of armor, one could argue that a new FAQ for it would be needed.

That said, 6 months is long enough to necessitate an FAQ already.

You shouldn't use the FAQ for last edition. You could perhaps use it as a precedent in a arguement, but not just state FAQ states it can be combined.

On the OP subject.
Yes the Nightshroud can be combined for a armor save. The same as the DragonHelm, Helm of Discord, and magic shields.

The Nightshroud does not have a armor type, ie Helm, shield, Armor.

What you can't do is have the Nightshroud and the Armor of Destiny or any other Magic Armor.

The Trickster's Helm is magic armor. Nobody would argue that it can't be combined with other armor and all it says is that its +1 to your armor save.

Armor can be combined along these lines, helms, shields, and light or heavy armor(or equivilent like Full Plate or Chaos armor)

The Nightshroud is none of these. its just a magical piece of armor, not heavy or light armor.

Ergo it can be combined just fine.

So is an Enchanted Shield, but you can take that and Heavy Armor.

There is nothing to indicate that it doesn't stack with mundane armor.

502 BRB:

A Model can only have one SUIT of armour and one shield, so if you give a model a magical SUIT of armour or a magical shield, it replaces any mundane equivalent already worn by the model.

Now show me where something called a shroud is a suit of armor. It's a cape that confers an armor save, and as such is counted as magic armor. Magic armor itself does not negate mundane armor, e.g. Dragon Helm.

Cool thanks for the help, i'll have to argue this point if it comes up again.

but it hopefullly won't.

My bad, it's a tournament FAQ not the GW one.
As others have pointed out, it isn't a suit of armor, just like the dragon helm, tricksters helm, bret gauntlet and many others.

There are many item that add to armour that aren't suits or shield, there's cloaks (DE and HE AFAIK) braces (HE) and plenty of helms (BRB, LM and maybe others).
