Probably the two armies that need a new dex the most (I know SoB had the WD codex but I mean a real one.) so who will get one first?

Probably Tau. Yes, the Sisters codex is kinda crap, but it's at least an up-to-date codex (well, 5th edition at least). Tau are still stuck with a 4th Edition codex, even if it isn't a half-bad one.

The sisters codex is actually doing quite well right now. It may need some variety and new units, but it is pretty competitive. The Tau on the other hand really need a hand. I'm hoping they get the love first.

This is the list of current books/codexes:
6th Edition (2012)

5th Edition (2008)
Necrons: November 2011 (Made with 6th in mind.)
Sisters of Battle: August/September 2011 (Made with 6th in mind.)
Grey Knights: April 2011 (Made with 6th in mind.)
Dark Eldar: November 2010
Blood Angels: April 2010
Tyranids: January 2010
Space Wolves: October 2009
Imperial Guard: May 2009
Space Marines: October 2008

4th Edition (2004)
Chaos Daemons: May 2008 (Made with 5th in mind.)
Orks: January 2008 (Made with 5th in mind.)
Chaos Space Marines: September 2007 (Made with 5th in mind?)
Dark Angels: March 2007
Eldar: November 2006
Tau Empire: March 2006
Black Templars: November 2005

Which means Black Templars, Tau Empire, Eldar, Dark Angels, Chaos Space Marines, Orks and Chaos Daemons are due next (by rights, in that order.)

However, we know that CSM are next, probably followed by Dark Angels.
I sincerely hope the next Xenos book after that will be Tau.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Both realy deserve it. The sisters have a single good miniature ( Celestine, the rest aged badly ) and their codex is a soulless White Dwarf abomination.
The Tau dex and Tau miniatures are aging badly as well ( horrible internal balance, Firewarrior kit is of a downright horrible quality, suits are only barely better ).
Still i think that Tau get their book sooner because technicaly the Tau codex is older.

I think that the Repentia and Penitent Engine have held up fine too.

The Repentia Mistress had to have been bad when it was released though... and the Dialogus is... who thought that was a good idea.

This. I wouldn't be surprised to see some of the 5th/6th books get updated before some like BT, Tau and Eldar, which might not get touched until 7th ed. Hopefully not, but, it's happened before - just look at Brets and Wood Elves for WHFB.

The exorcist is still a good unit I think. A bit random, but have been very deadly in most test games I've seen with it.

On the other hand, I think Eldar is more popular than Tau at the moment especially with all the Dark eldar players. Popularity will probably see eldar before Tau.
GW seems to also really have taken a likiing to daemons lately and as a daemon player, I've seen a lot of new life into my old models that have made alot of builds viable. The buffs to flamers/screamers as well as my winged princes have been huge. They may consolidate the daemons before going xenos especially with how they seem to be encouraging the CSM. Gotta fix their allies too I suppose. Daemons as stands actually don't really need a new dex as they work really well now. I'd almost hate it if they changed it too much

The more I test play the GK, I think they only had some ideas of what 6th would look like when writing alot of the GK codex. So many things aren't working quite right like crowe really not having any attacks vs just characters for example or the proper use of most of the rest of the dex

now a days all we see really is coteaz. Crowe is more a tax than ever before, even draigo is not as popular due to pallies nerfs, hardly anyone takes any of the other characters in the book i.e. very few competitive if any Strum, Modrak, Karzomov, Valeria, just plain brother champion, captains used at all. The internal balance we had from 5th is kind of out the window and all that's left is like henchmen builds that seem the strongest in 6th with a few just ok other builds.

TLDR version - bulk of the codex isn't getting use much anymore while a few units are still really good, probably using no more than 30% of the dex in "good" builds now a days. Vs necrons where more than 80% of the dex is good and is very clear it had 6th in mind with the way their rules work

I think the final 6th launch probably looked quite different from what they had in mind when drafting the GK dex.

Tau are quite popular at the moment, especially with the boosts they've got from 6th ed. (3+ cover on vehicles, snapfire, 36"/21" range for pulse rifles, 4+/2+ cover stealth suits, etc)

If you look at the world campaign (for what it's worth)
17 Eldar Players (one with DE allies listed)
11 Dark Eldar Players (2 with Eldar allies)
33 Tau Players.
(I haven't checked which other armies have eldar / tau / de armies xD)

I'm a little biased in that I want Tau Empire first too, but then, plastic Penitent Engines / Repentia / more and varied repentia options (some sort of penitent troops choice) would be fantastic.

Pah! The reason you "forgot" is that they were too busy slipping in under your radar - and yes, that is the sparkle of multiple marker-lights doing a fan-dance across your person. Smile, you're on camera.

The only reason I would say Tau over Sisters of Battle, is the same reason that is keeping me from seriously looking at building them. They seem to be the only army that is mostly metal minis, Seriously, check out GW site, your paying 17 dollars for 3 of the basic troop sisters. That just seems expensive to me when you can get a box of 10 resin FW for 35-40.

But that could also be a good reason for SoB, as a new codex to go with a new line of resin minis.

I like to say I have two armies: Necrons, and Imperium.....

Thats what makes a competitive Tau army, such as it is.

Tau were probably the first codex to have a plastic HQ choice.

I'd want the SoB one more and think it'd make more sense, yet we'll likely see a Tau one first. Hopefully we won't sit on a WD dex for too many decades first.

If nothing else, the combination of representation for the World Campaign and the purchase rate for Tau gear on ForgeWorld proves that there's a hungry market for the Greater Good. I believe that GW has recognized that.

Tau have Forge World, GW will use that until it's realised waiting 12 years for an update is ludicrous, I'm doubting Sisters will even get an update, maybe they'll be rolled into another army or something like that.

The only thing that makes me wonder if SoB might come out before Tau would be that I've been hearing rumors of new SoB models for years now. If the SoB model line is closer to completion than a new tau model line, the models-for-sale dog might end up wagging the codex-for-sale tail. GW just makes more money if they can offer new models alongside their new codex.

That said, I suspect Tau will come out first, unless GW runs into some snags whipping up a new model line for them. They have plenty of time to prepare.

There's as many rumours of new Tau models (if not more) than the Sisters, plus as has been said, Sisters have had the WD codex, and while a fluffy abortion, it's still more current, being only 2 codexes old (After CSM and Necrons), so is incredibly unlikely to see anything that soon.

Blood Angels got their WD 'dex in 2007, and they didn't get a proper book till 2010, so going by that schedule, we'll get a Sisters book in 2014

It'll have been 7+ years by the time Tau get redone though.

on the forum. Obviously

Tau, I would think.
SoB have technically received their update. It may not be pretty, but it'll do for now.
Besides, it'll take a while to redo all those metal miniatures into finecast/plastic and work out what to add to the army.

Hasnt Tau been heavily hinted to be the first xenos codex of next year, and we know the next imperial one will probably be DA in January.

Then Eldar need a new codex as they are one of the oldest still in print.

Dont expect SoB anytime soon.

How do you figure? It took 3 years for the Blood Angels to go from White Dwarf to full codex (Initially released in WD2007, full release 2010). By that math, with SoB White Dwarf book being released in 2011, we won't see a full Codex till 2014.

But ultimately - when GW feels like it, and honestly, I think the 4th ed books will be updated first (Black Templars, Tau Empire, Eldar, Dark Angels, Chaos Space Marines, Orks, Chaos Daemons.) and with CSM being brought up to 6th next saturday... whoknows.
