Simply put, post your favorite band that everyone seems to hate. For me it's Fall Out Boy. You guys'll probably make fun of me for liking them, but I've gotten my money's worth out of their first two albums Take This To Your Grave and From Under the Cork Tree are pretty solid.
Your turn! Can we keep this thread going in the sea of political rants?

Most people feel uncomfortable when I play stuff like the Velvet Underground or The Stooges on my stereo, but then again those bands weren't intended to be easy to listen to but that doesn't make them bad per say.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

The Velvet Underground are the iconic 'I'm cool because I listen to them' band. I like them a lot, but they're kind of the opposite of the thread.
“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

I guess but Velvet Underground doesn't really appeal to mainstream audiences, don't get me wrong they're a great band but I think most casual music listeners wouldn't really understand the appeal of them. Wow that sounded really hipster.

OT: just to toss in my contribution for the thread Hank Williams III. Hank 3 for short, every person ive gotten to listen to his music hates it for some odd reason
I've only met one person outside of a concert that likes tool. Everyone here likes modern hip/trendy stuff. Taylor Swift, Lady gaga, Puff Diddles, Foo fighters, etc.

I was in High School in Tool's heyday. I remember the slavering legions of zealous fans. Although I love Tool's music, I have to say, I hate the band. I went to see them on the 10,000 days tour, and I have never met a band more contemptuous of their fans.

VU made some good stuff, but some of it is un-listenable. Not the ones like Venus in Furs, the lame, mainstream crap they made later on.
Loaded was a great album. Sure, it wasn't as good as The Velvet Underground & Nico, or The Velvet Underground, but then again, how many albums are? You just sound like a hipster.
A lot of Lou Reed's solo work was also pretty good (although he's made a few stinkers over the years, but then again, who hasn't?).
As for music I love that everyone hates, my music collection is absolutely massive, and my tastes tend to dip quite far into the 'weird' end of the spectrum. There's bound to be plenty of music that I listen to that a lot of people can't even stand.

Queen used to be kind of weird, and it was cool to hear it once every couple months. Not anymore. All of their songs are overplayed, overhyped and overanalyzed. They've taken the mystery out of it, by portraying him as some homosexual messiah with "boundless talent" and "eccentric flair"... Enough is enough. He's just a guy in a band who dressed kind of funny and had a good voice. If you want a homosexual idol to circle-jerk with your friends, Rob Halford is your man.
I like queen. It's quirky, it gets in your head, and most likely, you'll be singing or whistling a Queen song in your head all day. I have no problem with the band, or freddie, or anything besides how people hype it up so much, especially lately
And as a result, I hate Queen. Maybe in 20 more years when everyone forgets about them, I'll give them another chance.

Been in love with their music since I was 13 and their songs still evoke an emotional reaction from me 17 years later. It really doesn't get much better than the song The Mountains Win Again. Copious amounts man tears are shed when that song plays.
My girlfriend gives me constant gak about liking them, and even growing up I would catch flak from my friends for my interest in the band. It doesn't phase me, though. Blues Traveler is freaking awesome.
Now THAT's in the spirt of the thread. Well done, that man.
I can't think of anything I LOVE that's widely reviled. I guess Blink 182 and Marilyn Manson come in for some hate. Or Duran Duran?

Wow. I've never met someone who disliked Blues Traveler.
Mine's gonna have to be Angels and Airwaves. I mean, each song is just the most optimistic, hope filled burst of feel-good-ness, I can't help but put my cynicism on hold in the meantime.
Angels and Airwaves is awesome. Never heard anyone say a bad word about them. Unlike Nickelback, which is as courageous as admitting publicly that you have herpes.

The running gag I hear is that people who like Angels and Airwaves are the people who also like to find a guy and give them a big hug, "burying themselves in their muscles, and feeling all warm and safe".
