I mean, their music is vile, but the schtick is just so preposterous that it's awesome. Fun fact: my friend's ex-girlfriend is the the daughter of the bassist.

Yeah... that was my point... I'd only go see them for their stage "production" than their music...

They do have a few good songs...

The striptease. It takes a particularly crappy band to ruin a naked lady for me, too.

I like prog rock - apparently that's wrong.

How can it be wrong when it feels so right? Progressive rock is the steak of music genres.

Outside the DarkTower, amongst the roses.

For me it's King Diamond / Merciful Fate. Even my metal buddies back in the day couldn't stand it.

Every Dakkanaught gets a 4+ Pinch of Salt save.
When you suffer a Falling Sky hit, roll a D6 - on a 4+ the hit is ignored as per the Pinch of Salt save. On a 1-3 panic insues - you automatically fail common sense tests for the next 2 weeks and get +7 to your negativity stat. -Praxiss

Oh, whilst I wouldn't say I was a fan as such ny parents played a lot of Byran Adam's early stuff -- well prior to the Robin Hood movie and and that -- and a fair bit of "Big Country", so some of their songs straight away take me back to the distant and, generally, happy past/childhood. It's almost worrying exactly how well one can recall lyrics from songs heard ...what... over 20 years ago ?!

Bryan Adams is a good one. I like early Bryan Adams, which IMO is in a different category than his later movie soundtrack power ballad stuff. But yeah, you wouldn't catch me saying that too loudly.

I think some of the posters in this thread are doing it wrong. ("Yeah, I'm a big Radiohead fan but my friends make fun of me.") So here's doing it right. I don't own any of their albums, but when I'm driving and the Go-Gos come on the radio, I don't change the station right away and usually end up bobbing my head to the music. I can't explain it, but there it is.

A couple bands that come to mind that I rather like that others at least raise an eyebrow at:

Men at Work (they are really only famous for one song, and thats Land Down Under)
Billy Idol.. What can I say, White Wedding and John Wayne just do it for me musically.
Hammerfall
Lamb of God
Mastodon

OK, so those last three I KNOW have big followings (they wouldnt still be around otherwise), but especially my wife hates when I listen to them.

That may be a true statement. However, I always feel like my man card will be revoked on the spot for bopping to it. And yet I can't resist. Curse you, Belinda Carlisle!

I favor the Bangles, in the 80s girl-group category. Walk Like an Egyptian is also a ridiculously catchy pop song. I also love their cover of Hazy Shade of Winter.

It's the rare cover that not only stands on it's own, but makes you appreciate the original more. Not unlike the Gary Jules cover of "Mad World."

Jimi Hendrix's of All Along the Watchtower.

Jack White's of Jolene.

I'd agree with all but Hurt. I think Johnny Cash just heisted that song. Maybe in a few more years i'll rediscover the NIN one, but right now... it just sounds so phony.

How about Nirvana's "Man who sold the World?"

Or should we make this a new topic?

Saw one of those Behind the Music-type shows about the Bangles a few years back. They swore that their real sound was like that in Hazy Shade of Winter, and that the Walk Like an Egyptian stuff was just what the studio told them to play.

Seriously though, I have a surprising amount of tolerance (and even in some cases love) for Christian bands, but ICP is one I simply cannot tolerate.
