So I'm looking for a new VG experience. My favorite games have always been the ones that have a puzzle heavy focus; Tomb Raider, Portal, The Ball. Less platforming, more puzzling is always better. Any suggestions?

Uh... Metal Gear on PS3...

Still one of my favorites...

Try playing that game without killing anyone.

Where's the puzzle, again? That's a test of skill, not one of mental acuity.

Hmmm I see what you mean...

I guess I liked it because I knew there was an achievement to beat the game w/o killing anyone.

I did two major achievements...

No killing...

And, I didn't trigger an enemy alert...

Which entailed a lot of sneaking around, paying attention to the Radar (yeah, he had a radar thingy in his fething eye patch)...

I've always thought the arkham asylum and arkham city 'predator' maps are far more interesting puzzles than anything the portal games has ever thrown out.

Not nearly enough since I was not made a MOD too. but back on topic.

I actually think Baldurs Gate 2 and its companion game Icewind Dale 1 and its expasion pack hearth of winter makes you emply brain before brawn in several major events. Also Secret World has some rather insane puzzels although it griefs me to say anything posetive about any game from Funcom.

wait...do you mean in terms of story, or problem solving? And are the problems skill based, or thought based?

Uhh X-COM I guess.
But then again, that's more luck than tactics imo.
Although the research tree, squad load-out and base management parts requires a bit of thinking.

The puzzles in Metroid Prime are pretty intuitive. They're not the absolute hardest or anything, but they require thought, utilization of all the tools at your disposal, and always have a good reward.

Don't remember the Forest Temple in OoT then?

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Second. There is seriously a quest where the only clue is in morse code. I sat there with a pencil and paper, and a morse code diagram for 20 minutes listening to the message over and over.

But that is 100% puzzles, not an FPS. From OP I'm not sure if this is required because all examples are but it's not directly stated.

I've completed portal 2 and found maybe 3 puzzles halfway interesting.

Conversely, every Arkham City 'extreme' predator map is worth a good ponder. So I need to pull that guy off a ledge here, jump to point Y, to get into grate cover Z before badguy A turns the corner to see me. Then I need to take him down, jump up to a gargoyle, disable dude B's gun, lay a bomb on the gun crate, scare him without getting shot at by anyone else, then set off the explosive when he goes to rearm.

All in as little time as possible.
