Wow. That came out of nowhere. Can't wait for the book to become available. Great looking stuff all around, but surprised to see there weren't new sculpts for the Cult troops, especially Khorne.
No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Right, and it is cool that they are extending the concept to 40k (with this figure and the limited chaplain), but $20 seems expensive for a no option figure, particularly when the fantasy versions are $14.75.
Please tell me that sarcasm hasn't translated to text in this thread.
How could anyone on this site NOT have seen this coming? There's a massive thread on it, and Chaos was in the starter box, all of which was rumored well over a year ago.

Seriously, is spending 1200 instead of 1000 that much of an increase for a hobby? It's expensive as hell to begin with.
20% is a huge mark up on anything.

Holy gak future space batman! Look at the price! Also, those upgrade kits are terrible. You can make like 1 marine with the Noise Marine upgrade pack. Stringy as all hell with the bits. Limited edition psychic cards because GW wanted it's customers to know how much it hates them.

Entirely dependent on multiple variables.

Vote with your wallet. I think this price jump is going slightly overboard and I certainly won't be expanding my Chaos force.
$50 is just slowed for a codex. If that is the new standard then I will be pissed. I can hardly justify the current prices with my budget, if they make these prices the new norm then GW just priced me out of the game.

The math of it isn't dependent on anything. 20% is 1/5 the original value. That is by all measures a large increase in price pretty regardless of the product. Now that doesn't mean that 20% can't be justified by variables such as upgrades or increased materials cost, but that doesn't make it any less of a monetary hit.
And in this case, it is 20% for the hell of it.
Look at any item you might buy in a given year. 20% on top of that is a lot more money in the scope of that items original value as you perceive it. Hell look at Itunes. Songs used to be $.99 now they are almost all $1.29. Now $.30 by itself isn't much money sure, but then look at it's effect when you buy 100 songs. That is $30, enough to buy another 30 songs at the original price.
And the example given is ludicrous. $1200 isn't much more than $1000? $200 a year is a huge monetary loss for hobby funds.

I would suggest slow building an army now rather than buying everything on release day. It's not like these models are going to go out of print anytime soon.
Hell, its been a few months for me to get my IG where it is. The basic stuff Chaos units look unchanged, its just the new models so check out the swap shop or eBay for used armies that are cheap. As for the new models, you may not even want to play them/have the points plus this is an expensive hobby to begin with so why not look into their points cost and usefulness before crying about prices.

I'm scratching my head as to why I should buy the codex, and since FW planes are now the same as GW planes I don't see the reason to not order a helltalon now.
I'll review the codex and if it seems worth it I might buy it but 52 bucks for 3 mutilators is seriously pushing it over the edge.
