If that wouldn't be too demanding of me, would You upload an example? I've just tried to make floor tiles to be as bright and different as possible, using white, cream and earth before applying brown wash... only white has survived to be somewhat different.

Thanks, guys, for enabling my inflated production numbers. Speaking of which:
I cranked out the riders in about four days. They have the same paint scheme as every other orc in the army-- AP gunmetal armor, AP Leather brown for what little clothes they wear, AP Fur brown for their capes, AP greenskin (or whatever it's called) for their skin, all with the appropriate glazes. In finally settled on a color scheme for the shields: Vallejo Tinny Tin with a 50/50 gunmetal/tin mix, straight gunmetal on the parts that look bolted on, all with a Payne's Grey glaze. Sadly, you can't see it in these photos. I may or may not go back and do this to the rest of the army sometime in the future. With these guys complete, I have ten more skulks to paint, and an even dozen Greataxe plus four or five Ax left. Then I can finally say the army is finished. I hope to maintain my focus until the end of the month. Wish me luck!

Good luck staying on target. The contrast between the green of the orcs and their boars is really nice. They are a fabulous unit and hope you are happy with them.
The bases look cool too. How did you get it actually looking flat? When I put grass and dirt on a base it sticks up too much for my liking. How did you get it to stay flat?

Mantic's cavalry bases are really thin to begin with. I used Liquitex texture gel instead of PVA/sand, which helps keep the profile low, and I apply static grass by hand so it won't stand up even if I want it to. Sadly, it also makes the pigs really hard to attach to the bases. Their underbellies are too low to paint while they are on the base, so I had to attach them after painting. Some of them are still wobbly.

They look great, Josh. A really mean looking horde of angry orcs and angrier boars. The staggered look works really well on them as well.
And yeah, Mantic use the Renedra cavalry bases (or they used to at least). Pretty much these:

The orc skulks are coming along, slowly but surely. I have no real objection to hybrid plastic/metal kits, but they do take longer the prep and assemble compared to all-plastic or all-metal minis. In between stages, I finished off this model:

This is Brynhildr, Shieldmaiden Champion, from Bad Squiddo. I got her at the same time as the other shieldmaidens, and in fact had her half-finished about the time I decided to start cranking out orcs. The paintjob is nothing to write home about. I think I've become spoiled by all the hyper-exaggerated features on everything else I've been painting, because I found this model's face difficult to get right. Still, she'll fit in with the other fantasy heroines fro Frostgrave or whatever.
I hope to have more orcs to show by this time next week.

Thanks. One of the reasons I took so long to finish her was that I couldn't decide on a color scheme. And I agree, sensibly-dressed female models are refreshing. It may be a sign of my advanced age...

The school year is winding down, and in the last few weeks before the new school year begins, I have a number of semi-mandatory "drinking parties" to attend. Having two back to back on Friday and Saturday pretty much killed my painting over the weekend, otherwise I would have had these ready to share a couple of days ago:
Ten more orc skulks for Kings of War. These workman-like paintjobs aren't much up close, but all bunched up on movement tray they work just fine, I think. This is the last unit I can build with the orcs I have. There are still about a dozen Greatax models and not quite that many axe models, but not enough of each for a full-sized unit. Also, each set of gore riders came with enough extra parts that I have two full riders left over. I'll be kitbashing them wit parts left over from other units and sticking them on some monsters that I've had sitting in boxes for many many years to make a couple more Krudger models. The end of this project is in sight at last!

Nice work on the skulks there, Josh - you've been hammering through those orcs lately. I look forward to seeing those Krudgers.
You might be able to combine the Greatax and Ax units together for a mostly-Greatax unit that you can count as either - vary the front rank as needed and mix the mid/rear ranks, or hide the Ax in the middle of the unit surrounded by the Greatax guys.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. I'm pretty sure I can power through these last few models, not the least because they aren't in units of ten. As for the leftovers, I also want to kitbash a couple of army banners and maybe a wardrum or two, as well. I'm sure everyone will find a home.

The orc army project is winding down. I present to you my kitbashed orc krudger on slasher:

The Krudger's body and legs are leftover from a set of Gore riders, the arms and weapon are from the Greatax sprue, and the head from the ax sprue. I did a little hot water bending on the legs to get him to stay on the slasher without pinning or gluing. The Slasher is a Grenadier Marsh Dragon that I've had in my bitz box since the 90's. It looks a little dinky compared to most of the monsters you see for WHFB/ KoW, but it fits just fine on a 50x50 square base. All in all, it took about five painting sessions to finish. I did a lot more traditional layering/shading than I do for the regiments, but unless you look really closely, it's hard to tell the difference. There is, I think, a lesson in there somewhere.
I have a very old wyvern model soaking in alcohol right now, and I hope to have one more krudger finished by the end of the week. Watch this space.

Very cool stuff Josh - giving those old drake models a new lease on life as well - I approve! Great choices of colour with the rust and red-brown, they stand out well against the orcs that are weighing them down. I like the chain embedded into the jaw of the Wyvern as well - a nice touch - gotta keep those suckers under control somehow!
